Description of the location:

This scene will be set in Sophie’s (the protagonists) bedroom, it is a medium

sized room in which there is a single bed in the corner, this is where Sophie will

be filmed reading ‘’troublesome teacher’’, this will be accompanied by a high

angle shot to connote that Sophie is afraid and therefore inferior. Continuing

along the wall is a set of shelves, this is where a panning shot will be used to

show Sophie as she retrieves the book from the book shelve. For this location

will be incorporating a variety of shots, such as extreme close up to show

Sophie’s distraught facial expressions, as well as an establishing shot to inform

the teenage target audience (uses and gratification theory) that it is set in a

bedroom.

Purpose:

We have chosen this location to begin our opening sequence as it informs the

teenage target audience (uses and gratification theory) that the protagonist is

a girl, through the pink colours which connote femininity, therefore they will

be able to identify with her (uses and gratification theory). This scene will offer

the teenage target audience entertainment (uses and gratification theory) as

what is meant to be the protagonists safe base, her bedroom, turns out to be

frightening for her because of the book she is reading. This will show our

teenage target audience that the protagonist is also the damsel in distress

(Prop 8 stock).

List three points that make this location suitable for the purpose:

As it is set in a Sophie’s bedroom a teenage target audience of girls will

be able to identify with the setting through the pink colours which

connote femininity.

This is the only scene we are able to see the protagonist on her own,

meaning it is the only time we are given the most information (uses and

gratification theory) about her character in which a female teenage

target audience will be able to identify with (uses and gratification

theory).

Sophie’s fear from the book can be connoted more through the fact that

she covers her face with a girly duvet, which will be shown through a

high angle shot to connote her fear and inferiority.

List two points that might make this location unsuitable for your purpose:

If we need to re- shoot any scenes in this location it may be hard to get

the exact same lighting due to the filming taking place at different times

of the day. To prevent this we must ensure we film at around the same

time.

Our filming time will be limited if we decide to film after school this is

because it gets dark quickly meaning this will affect our lighting, to

prevent this we must film quickly and if possible at an early time in the

day.

If you use this location what will you have to be aware of at all times?

This location is situated in someone’s house therefore we would have to be

aware of any background noise that may be caused by any family members

who are not part of the production. This family also own a dog, therefore we

will have to be aware of him at all times and ensure that there is no noises that

may distract our scene.
