GROUP 1

One day with Laia Once upon a time there was a girl named Laia. She lived in Tortosa and her

boyfriend Ivan lived in a town of Terra Alta. Both were the same age and met at the

University of Tortosa. The first day of class, he was taking geography and he found

Laia in the corridor, who was also lost as him. Since that first day of class, they didn't

separate. Ivan brought Laia to have dinner in La Galera. After, he asked Laia if she

wanted to marry him, she said yes. Both decided they would marry on the 5th of

October that year.

They were nervous because they were very young. The wedding day arrived and

there were many people. The people were very well dressed for the occasion. It was an

excellent day!. After the wedding, they went on honeymoon to Brazil. During the

journey, the plane, unfortunately, had an accident. The plane fell to a desert island,

which had many fruit trees. They decided to build a hut with the leaves of trees. They

ate fruit for dinner, fruit for breakfast and fruit for lunch too. Laia was tired of eating

fruit and she built a spear to fish, but Ivan couldn‟t light the fire in order to cook them.

Laia was angry and they argued. Laia said to Ivan that he did nothing well, and

he answered that those were women's duties. Laia increasingly annoyed him saying that

if he was not going to fish, she wouldn't light the fire. Ivan said nothing else; she stayed

silent and continued trying to make fire. He succeeded and Laia was very happy and she

said:'' Ivan we are still here and not in Brazil, it is the best honeymoon.'' Ivan replied: ''

For me it is the best honeymoon, better than Brazil and especially because we are

alone.''

Days passed, and they were

alone in the island. When they ran

out of food, they decided to ask for

help. They collected glass bottles

on the beach. With leaves, mud

and the wrecks of the plane crash

they wrote: ''SOS''! Two weeks

later, they had not received any

response. Ivan said: '' Calm down Laia, try another method to ask for help." Laia

replied: "Ok, look for rocks and I will write a big message on the sand.''

After one month, he finished the message. It was big and colorful. They were very

happy because they believed that it was the perfect solution to save themselves from the

island. But weeks passed and no one came to rescue them. Laia felt bad, she was very

tired and she didn't see any exit for that situation. They spent the day crying and ate

very little.

One day while they walking along the beach, Laia fainted to the ground. When

Ivan saw her on the soil, he scared. Then he saw a scorpion on her foot, he thought that

it could be poisonous. She had a scorpion bite in the foot. Ivan decided to take her to the

hut since there it was less hot. When they were in the hut Laia woke up, then he saw

that her foot hurted. After a few hours, the pain was stronger. He was wetting her face

with a chunk of clothes to lower the temperature. She had a temperature, and she

couldn't sleep. On the other hand, Ivan was very worried and could not sleep. He

decided to make a great fire by burning many trees in order that someone could see

them. After two hours, he saw the light of a ship.

Laia woke up; she was very nervous and sweated. Her heart was beating very

rapidly. Everything had been a dream! When she opened the eyes, her mother was there.

She came to the room because Laia was shouting. But the reality was different; the next

morning would be her first day of class at the University of Geography. She was a very

shy girl. When she had to do important things she was so nervous that the previous

night she always had nightmares and she could never sleep. She was a solitary,

introverted and single girl. She always had dreamed that someday she would find her

Prince Charming. She got out of the bed with a jump. After a shower she got dressed

and had breakfast with her mother. It was 8.30 in the morning and she had to go to the

university, she was beginning a new life.

The Monastery

It was in the Middle Ages, near Largs in Scotland, there was a monastery. About

fifty monks lived inside the monastery. Every day the monks prayed three times. In

their free time they harvested some vegetables, nuts and fruits. They raised sheep, cows,

hens, pigs, ducks and donkeys to plow.

The monks woke up every day at 5 am to go to pray at 6. Then they went to the

field to feed the livestock and gather some fruits and vegetables for the day.

At 8 o´clock in the morning they met to have breakfast. They used to eat eggs, bacon,

meat and wine.

After breakfast a few monks worked in the field until it was time to make their

second prayer of the day and the others prepared lunch for them and for homeless

people who needed help.

At 12:00 pm they had lunch together, and they

went to the library and they read the Holy Book while

making the final prayer of the day and then dinner time.

It was a winter foggy frosty night and an

unknown man stopped at the door of the monastery and

he left a basket, and then went quickly. When the monks

were just upon finishing dinner, they heard a horrible

cry coming from outside the monastery.

All monks went quickly to the door and they found a surprise, it was a basket

with a baby and a letter.

The letter said: "Look after him and grow him up, he is a son of Our Lord" The

main monk, Benedict, took the basket and he entered the monastery again.

Quickly Benedict went in search of milk to feed the baby and he took a blanket because

the baby was very cold.

The next day Benedict, who was the father monk, met all monks and he said:

“I take care of this baby, so we respect him like another son of God, we will raise the

child and I will teach him the way of God”.

The baby was like an angel from heaven, blond hair, blue eyes, his white skin

was like snow and had a very dark stain of birth in the neck. They called him Angel

because he was very beautiful.

The father monk entrusted a monk dress for the baby and a cot for his room.

Angel daily grew and helped the father monk in all his activities. Benedict was very

happy with Angel, he integrated very well in the monastery and he was a good boy and

very diligent.

The child, who was at least 10 years, could enter the monastery to be trained as a

monk. The monks taught him math, language, history, philosophy, geography... and

especially religion.

When Angel turned 10 years old, he started to go to classes with other children.

Here, he became a good friend with a boy called Noah. They went everywhere together.

Noah told him many things about life outside and Angel taught him life in the

monastery. Angel taught him the secret passageways that there were in the monastery

and communicated with the outside.

One day, Noah said to Angel: “ Would you go to the town and I introduce you to

my friends?” Angel was thoughtful but curiosity won. The next day, after lunch, they

ran away towards the village.

Noah‟s friends were very friendly and they played all afternoon. It was a very

hot day and returning to the monastery, Noah asked him to go swimming in a lake near

the monastery.

When they arrived, they kept underwear and they threw themselves to the lake.

While they were playing, Noah realized that Angel had a very dark stain on the neck

and thought it was dirt.

When they arrived at the monastery, before dinner, they warned a monk that

Angel had a stain on the neck that did not go. The monk decided to bathe him to clean

the stain. The surprise was that when he undressed him, he was not a boy! She was a

girl. And the stain that he had on the neck did not go and was very familiar to him.

He gathered a few monks to explain the situation and when they saw the stain,

they realized that it was such as Benedict‟s stain. At dinner, the monks uncovered the

secret of Benedict to the rest. When Benedict arrived, the monks asked him for an

explanation.

Benedict told them: “Yes, she is my daughter and her real name is Angela".

Then, he explained them that 10 years ago he had a love story with a girl of Largs. That

girl could not keep the baby and she left her at the door of the monastery with a note

requesting for care. Benedict decided to take care of her because she was her daughter,

and he kept the secret all this time with the risk involved in doing so.

Benedict was punished and her daughter was taken to a nunnery.

Years later, the relationship between Noah and Angela intensified by letters, which

made them aware of their feelings and they two decided to leave the religious life and

start a new life together.

Survivors in the island It was winter and the sun shone in the blue sky. Sheina was a little girl, she had

green eyes, and blond hair. She lived with her mother in a little camp in the Bermudas'

Triangle. In the camp there were other people. All the people who lived there were

survivors of a horrible shipwreck. The name of the ship was “The Land Grow”. All the

days Sheina went to the beach and saw the water, which caressed her feet, again and

again. She closed her eyes and remembered those days, the scared people and their

voices saying the name of her family, father, brothers...

Three weeks ago 20 people

went in to this ship to sail through

the weaves for ten days and

together with those people went

Sheina, her mother and her father.

But one day, black clouds

appeared in the sky. The people,

who saw this phenomenon, were

terribly scared and their blood was

frozen. The captain didn't control

the ship and all of them ran hysterically through all the ship. The children cried, and

their mothers tried to calm them down . However, the women were nervous. When,

finally a bigger octopus appeared and destroyed the ship, and everybody dropped down

the water. The people tried to swim in the sea. But at that moment, in the water there

was a little tornado and a lot of people disappeared. Later, the survivors arrived in the

island and prepared a little camp.

Five minutes later Sheina heard a voice that said her name: “Sheina!” The girl

opened her eyes and looked at the person who arrived there. He was an old man who

stopped when he arrived in front of her. “Hi, Mr. Rond”, “Are you okay?”, “Yes, I am”-

said Sheina- Have you found my dad?”, “No, I'm sorry”, “Don't worry”. They came

back together to the camp. She was surprised when they arrived. “Where are all the

people?”, “I don't know”.

A few minutes later a woman arrived and said “The people went to look for the

other people on the ship”. Time passed slowly but nobody returned. Finally they

decided to look for their companions. They took some knives and went into the forest.

In a few hours they heard some voices and they hid among the trees. In front of them

three men appeared: “They are silly”, “Yes, but I don't know how they found us”,

“Don't worry, my friend, they will tell us how”. All of them laughed and walked

forwards. The three survivors looked at them and decided to return to the camp. But at

that moment the rest of the survivors arrived at the camp. Sheina stood up and went to

meet them. “Oh my God! Mum! Are you okay?”, “Yes, don‟t‟ worry my love, I‟m fine”

her mother said”.

The cold night fell, and they decided to make a fire to warm their bodies.

Increasingly they were more and more hungry, but they had nothing to eat. Suddenly

they heard a strange noise... “What‟s that!!??” It was that roar, and a huge wild boar

came out of the bushes! Sheina took the gun and shot the animal leaving it wounded to

the ground. Her mother with the knife ended up killing it, he peeled and roasted it at the

stake, so they could go to bed with their stomach full.

Possibly, that animal had eaten contaminated food because all the people were

ill. For three days they had stomachache and they couldn‟t go anywhere. Unfortunately,

the rest of the people died. Only five people survived: two children and three adults.

But… the worst was… that Shenia's father died. Shenia‟s family and her neighbors

mourned a lot of time.

Ring, Ring!! The alarm clock rang and Sheina, little by little, opened her eyes

and she looked around. The room was dark, only a few beams of light were entering

through her windows. Suddenly, she got out of the bed and thought: „Today is the day

of the final exams!‟. Maybe she can go to University with his friends. And…What

happens with the story? It was only a dream. Fortunately, her father didn't die and she

lives with his parents and her small brother, John, in a flat in the centre of London.

A CRAZY OLD MAN

One morning in October 2010 two new students of Fine Arts of the Autonomous

University of Barcelona, Albert and George who share a flat in Cerdanyola decided to

go to the art museum of Barcelona. When they were going out of the subway in

Catalonia square, a girl drew near them looking like a tourist who asked if they knew

where the Barcelona Municipal Institute of Education (IMEB) was. They were surprised

and asked the girl about the organization and which were the services it offered.

Suddenly, when she began to explain it. - INEF INEF! Exclaimed, an old man of about

fifty years with elegant appearance and friendly attitude. He was disposed to help the

girl. The old man began to give instructions to explain her how to arrive there. Then

Romi realized that the man was wrong because he was explaining her where the INEF

was and not IMEB...

-Romi: Thanks, thanks, but I'm looking for IMEB instead of INEF.

-Old man: Yes, yes, INEF, where people study and practice sport.

It seemed that the discussion did not end because neither the man nor Romi

wanted to reason.

Meanwhile, Albert and George thought that the comic situation was

unbelievable and they could not avoid laughing.

On the one hand, the girl was tired because of the insistence of the old man. On

the other hand, the old man was upset by the rude behavior of the young people.

In a last attempt Romi looked at George and Albert again with a complicity glance and

thanked them for their time, leaving there the grandfather talking alone.

Then the grandfather was very angry with the girl for her bad manners and the two boys

laughed at him.

When Albert and George were ready to go ...

-Old Man: Why are you laughing? Nowadays, young people have no education

or respect for anyone.

Albert and George continued laughing, thinking that the man said it jokingly, but

he was really angry.

When Albert started to explain the situation, he thought that trying to explain it

to the old man would be worse because he wouldn‟t understand. The old man continued

following them to obtain an explanation, but George and Albert could not stop laughing.

Finally, Albert and George stayed for a while looking at the old man and a few

seconds later everyone went away.

EscoltaOn her way Romi was very disoriented because she was already tired of

asking people, at that very moment fortunately, she passed near a policeman and took

the opportunity to ask where the IMEB was. The policeman, very kindly, offered

himself to accompany her to the police station. There he gave her a map and warned her

that that one was updated, because there had been a change of the name very recently.

The institution named IMEB now was called INEF!!!!

Pepet’s Christmas

It was the month of December and it was very cold, the mountains were very

frozen in a small village in Montsià. It was nearly Christmas Eve. In the biggest and

nicest house of the village, there was a small child. His name was Pepet and he was

helping her mother to prepare and decorate their house. In the garden there was a very

tall tree. Pepet and his mother began to decorate the tree, at first they began to put the

different colored balls; when they finished they made a big snowman near the tree.

Pepet was very nervous because it was the first Christmas that he could receive

some presents from Father Christmas, he didn't know anything about Father Christmas

so he asked his mother:

-Mum, how does Father Christmas enter the house?

Mum answered: -Father Christmas enters the house through the chimney, so you

have to put some milk and food for Father Christmas because he is very exhausted.

It was on the 24th of December and Pepet decided to wait for Father Christmas

next to the fireplace, early in the morning he appeared on the stairs with a sack of gifts.

While he was putting the presents under the tree, Pepet hided behind the door. Father

Christmas sat at the table, took off his beard and started to drink the milk that Pepet's

mother prepared for him. Suddenly he felt sick and went running to the toilet. After a

few minutes, a strong noise came out of the bathroom. Pepet was scared and confused,

he drew his ear near the door and suddenly he opened the door. Pepet ran to his

bedroom and there he went under his bed.

After that, Father Christmas entered Pepet's room, too. When he entered the

room, he saw that there was nobody, then he said:

-If there is not any child in the house, I will not leave any gift and it will be for

another child.

The child went out running of under the bed and he said shouting:

- I am here!!!! I am here!!!

And Father Christmas said: -" Young children would have to be sleeping at this

time. What are you doing?"

And Pepet answered: - I wanted to see the chimney, how you lowered down to

leave my presents under the tree.

And Father Christmas said: "Dear Pepet, can you see me, can't you?"

"Yes, I can". Pepet Answered.

Father Christmas invited him to sit down on his knees: "Come here, boy. Don't

be afraid!" and he asked him: "Has anybody explained you who I am?" "Yes" -said the

child- "my mother told me it some days ago. You leave presents to children in their

houses on Christmas Eve"

- "Yes. Do you know why I do it?"

- Mmmmmmm Why?

- "I do so to remind all the people how much important it is to give something

without waiting anything in exchange. Adult people can see in children this night joy

when they receive the presents. Actually, it is an example for they to give, during the

year, things which can't be put into the boxes, such as solicitude, tenderness, protection,

the value of effort, of dialogue, of help... it isn't easy. Sometimes, I am not heartened

because I see that my work doesn't have any fruits. But I can't leave it because if I leave

it, people will forget good values, too. I will never abandon. Do you understand?"

- "Oh, yes. It is an important and good job to teach people how to help each

other. If you want I can help you in your job from tomorrow. Do you want?" - Pepet

asked.

- "Good idea!" - And Father Christmas looked at his watch and said: "Ufff, it's

very late and I have to go to a lot of houses. Pleased to met you. Bye Pepet. Practice

helping"

Pepet went to bed without looking at his

presents. He was very happy with his new mission.

Father Christmas went out of the house and

gave a deep breath. He had been worried because he

was already 540 years old. But now, he was easy in

mind. Father Christmas is invisible for all the children

except for one child: his future successor. Perharps in

50 years.

Dummy, the little curious

elephant

Once upon a time, a little elephant lived in a big dark forest. He was very

curious and he wanted to ask anybody about the forest mysteries.

One day he had a new question. He wanted to know what kind of food the big

crocodile eats for dinner. He went to the fox and he said: “Hi, mister fox, what does the

big red crocodile like to eat for dinner?” “I don‟t know said the fox. Go personally and

ask him.” And the little curious elephant went

to ask for a crocodile. One day later he had a

plan. He went to a Woody woodpecker‟s tree

house and asked him: “Hi, handsome

woodpecker, do you know what food the big

red crocodile likes eating for dinner?” The

woodpecker looked at the little Dummy

elephant and told him with empathetic voice:

“My dear, I don‟t know, and I‟m not interested

in it. Why don‟t you ask him in the deep black lake?” It was a hard day for the little

animal, because nobody wanted to help him.

A little monkey who was laughing and laughing was high in a tree. But the

monkey felt sorry for the elephant and he though to give him a very nice surprise. He

indicated the elephant a right way to the crocodile‟s house. At last, they arrived near a

deep dark lake, and both of them waited to see the ferocious crocodile.

During the night, Dummy was watching the crocodile, but he didn‟t eat

anything. Dummy could see that the crocodile was sleeping in the deep of the lake, but

how could he breathe in the water? The elephant had a new question for the crocodile.

Next morning, the crocodile got up and went to look for his breakfast, he was

swimming in the lake, but he didn‟t find anybody to eat, so the crocodile continued

swimming and went to the river, there he found a lot of fishes to eat. But Dummy and

the monkey were still sleeping peacefully under a tree, when suddenly, a bird who was

living there started to sing and woke up them.

Quickly, they got up and ran next to the lake but they didn‟t see the crocodile!

After, the monkey and Dummy decided to go to the river to look for their breakfast.

When they were there, they heard a noise, and behind a big stone, there was the

surprising crocodile.

Here, the little elephant saw a great snake, and asked him: "Do you know where

I can get some food?" The snake saw him and he lifted up in a tree. Dummy watched

around and he found some plants to eat.

Time passed fast and once again the night was close. At last, the monkey lost his

patience and he went home.

Dummy, alone, could finally see the big red crocodile and he screamed loudly

"Misteeeer Crocodiiile, misteeeer Crocodiiile, what kind of food do you like for

dinner?" After that, a big silence…

The crocodile swam slowly along the river. At last, he saw a little island where

usually a young girl named Helena de Chamaquita lived. He crept around the island, the

girl saw him and screamed horrified. After a while, she came down and with politeness

asked the crocodile about his culinary preferences for dinner.

The crocodile felt really good and with a lot of proud, finally he answered: " I

like eating little curious elephants for dinner!".

Rico Rico Restaurant

Rico Rico was a popular restaurant in Italy, the decor was very luxurious, their

furniture was very comfortable, the floor was bright, the lamps were very big and with

small diamonds which sparkled surprisingly, tablecloths were of fine silk and dishes

were silver. It‟s dishes were delicious, and eating there was a huge explosion of

unimaginable flavors. In the restaurant menu there was a well-known salsa around the

world which gave prestige to the restaurant, the sauce was named for his creator,

Luiggi. High society people came to this restaurant, but they could not imagine who

prepared dishes ...

Luiggi, the chef of Rico

Rico, was someone very special

because he was a mouse with a

knack for cooking, one could never

overcome his dishes. Luiggi every

day was responsible for cooking the

delicious dishes and teach the rest

of chefs how to cook his meals, but

Luiggi never revealed the secret of

his famous sauce.

Franchesco was the best friend of

Luiggi and the co-worker Luiggi

spent most time. Franchesco had a

great admiration for Luiggi for his skill in the kitchen, he loved spending time in the

kitchen with him and learning every day how to cook his dishes.

One day, a person of great prestige went to the restaurant to hold a meeting with

significant others, since they had heard very good of this restaurant and its famous

sauce. All the guests asked for the dish containing this sauce, something which caused

chaos in the kitchen because it was too much work in so little time for one chef, and

those people were not able to wait because the restaurant could lose its prestige. Luiggi

had no choice but to tell his secret, but he decided to share it with the person that he

trusted most, his great friend Franchesco. Sharing his secret, Franchesco could help to

prepare the dishes in time and so the evening would end with success.

With much effort and preparation Franchesco and Luiggi managed to complete

the night as planned. Everyone left the restaurant very happy and congratulated the

chefs, who were invited to a very important party where they had to wear the best

clothes. Although they were very tired of working hard that night, they agreed to go to

the party.

At the party Franchesco appeared, and those of the party asked for Luiggi and he

answered:

- "Luiggi has decided to stay at home because he was so tired and tomorrow we expect

another hard day of work and teaching other chefs”.

A week after the party the famous restaurant was investigated because the day

after the party the customers who ate at Rico Rico had suffered from food poisoning.

After several investigations, the police found that the dish served that day, was Luiggi's

corpse.

The police was surprised to know that Franchesco had killed Luiggi the night of

the party, so he could be the best chef, as Luiggi had revealed the secret of his famous

sauce.

Franchesco was locked up in jail and took with him the secret of the sauce. The

restaurant Rico's lost all its prestige.
