Body language is further used to convey emotion (demonstrated in the picture top right), but it also used for comical effect (picture below). The position of the ‘son’ (seen as the elderly man) replicates that of a baby being cradled on a mother’s lap, however given his age this seems contrary to the typical case and adds further awkwardness upon the woman. The actor choice of a much older man wearing elderly people’s clothes enforces this idea.

Again the body language is used, this time to emphasise the point of awkwardness which had been increasing up till this point, the couple go to hug but then hesitate, then go to handshake and not do it to then say farewell, leaving her silently in her apartment.

Immediately, the first credit appears. No sound accompanies it therefore with the stark white-black contrast it focuses the attention directly toward the company ‘Partizan Films’, with ‘presents’ indicating their product is about to be shown.

It then cuts to the title ‘Time Travel Lover’, with the combination of the title and the music providing a statement suggesting it is light-hearted. Like the first credit however, the black backdrop and white title font draws the audience’s attention directly towards it. In addition, the san-serif font connotes the idea that the narrative will take place in a modern environment.

The props such as the bike helmet and the jacket with the stuck zip slow down the rhythm of their interaction and the passion is partially lost. The fact the man (presumably) only rides a bike as oppose to a sports car makes it comical in comparison to the stereotype hero-like figure in romantic films, as well as him having to have assistance to get undressed. The low key lighting is effective to create the right setting for the sexual encounter; however where there are no candles to increase the romantic notion, the spontaneity of the situation is developed. In addition, the streak of natural light in the room implies this event is taking place during the day, again deviating from the norms of romance, conveying

The two shot depicts a slight contrast between the stereotype male protector and the intimidated feminine woman. Although the woman hides behind him (matching the stereotype), the man is seen looking even more terrified (highlighted in his scream), this juxtaposition of stereotype adds further comical effect where the deviation from the norm catches the audience off guard. The use of costume is used cleverly between the different versions of the character ‘Dan’, the casual outfit of the present day Dan provides the equilibrium for the forms to stray from. As you can see the other version of him is wearing a summery dress code and holding the beer prop, portraying the relaxed partying aspect of his identity rather than his everyday self. The use of body language demonstrates his frame of mind with the partying version slightly more slouched and sluggish in movement, making it more believable when he gives a drunken speech. (Also the shot of the swimming pool in the background suggests the woman is of upper middle-class, implying she is perhaps spoilt, suiting the male audience who have been attracted by the sci-fi genre.

The first visual, a wide shot, shows a heterosexual encounter with an untidily high intensity of ‘making out’, which creates the comical element as it would be considered overwhelming in a sole ‘Romance’ genre. A mid-shot distance can be used, instead of the typical long shot, to familiarise the audience with the characters where there are only two and have obvious differences in appearance (yellow jumper contrasts the man’s black jacket). The non-diegetic soundtrack played in the background is quite ominous to begin with, matching the unfamiliar identities of the character and their situations, however it grows in to a more light-hearted yet busy rhythm once the realisation of the comical aspect kicks in. The large artwork on the wall indicating the interaction is between 2 middle-class people, which the middle class is common theme in the ‘Rom-Com’ genre.
