The Downhole Technology™ Boss Hog® frac plug delivers a step-change in composite plug performance. Half the lengthand weight of most competitive plugs, they can be run at twicethe speed and drilled out in less than half the time of othercomposites while still returning small-sized debris. Boss Hogplugs also require significantly less water volume duringpumpdown, and only one pump truck is needed, whichmeans savings between $2,000 and $4,000 per day andin some conditions reducing the need to upgrade to higher-pressure iron. Engineered for Lowest Total Cost of Operations
Downhole Technology’s composite plugs represent a totalreengineering of plug design and construction. Instead ofmaking incremental improvements on legacy plug designsfrom the 1990s, Downhole Technology engineered Boss Hogplugs from the ground up to eliminate problems inherentwith older-generation composite plugs, such as slow runningspeeds, excessive water use, premature setting, failureunder pressure and long drillout times. The Boss Hog plug’sdesign eliminates the shortcomings of competitive plugs inall these areas to achieve the lowest total cost of operations.

Boss Hog plug construction begins with the industry’s highest-quality composite material. We produce our compositematerial under tightly controlled temperature and humidityconditions to meet exact specifications. Composite materialis tested at every stage of manufacture, assuring maximumquality and traceability. Our filament-wound compositematerial is stronger than composites fabricated from sheetsand produces finer cuttings that flow back more easilyduring drillout.
All composite parts are machined in our facility by machinistsexperienced at working with this strong, lightweight material.Each Boss Hog component undergoes rigorous qualityinspection, and after assembly in our plant, every 50thcompleted plug is tested in our dedicated frac plug laboratoryto assure rated performance.
Simple Design for Efficiency and Reliability
Boss Hog plugs have a simple design, with fewer thanhalf the parts used in competitive plugs, so they areeasier to handle and less likely to lose components orset prematurely while being run into the wellbore. Andbecause Boss Hog plugs are smaller than competitiveplugs, they produce significantly less cuttings duringdrillout.
Our unique composite top slip is constructed of onepiece to avoid breakage and presets, and it featurescarbide-free mild steel buttons that hold firm, preventcasing damage and are easily drilled out.
Our Heli-Seal fluid control system captures fluid whilethe plug is pumped down, enabling plugs to be runat speeds up to 600 ft/min while pumping at just8 bbl/min, even in long lateral sections. Boss Hog plugsuse 40% less water to deploy plugs and perforatingguns than competitive plug designs.
Our one-piece segmented lower slip, manufacturedfrom a proprietary cast blend material, holds the plugat high pressure and enables predictable drillouts.
The plug’s tapered nose makes it easy to maneuverpast casing collars, around curves and throughdoglegs in the well.
The Boss Hog frac plug is easy to handle at thewellsite. Plugs are made up quickly using our speciallydesigned adapter kit, which is compatible with Owen,Baker and standard hydraulic setting tools. We providerunning procedures to wireline operators for the BossHog plug’s reduced-rate deployment in multi wells andincreased deployment speeds in single wells.
