Junior Curling Fund-raiser

Thank you to everyone that supported this years Stawnichys Junior fund-raiser. Once again with the generous support of our members the fund-raiser was a success. From all the Juniors to all of you...

it’s that time of year again. The Sherwood Park Curling Club holds an open bonspiel each year to determine a ladies and men’s representative for the Northern Dominion Championships. The successful teams will move on to the Northerns scheduled for the Ottwell Curling Club in March of 2014.

The Dominion Curling Club Championship is an annual event for men’s and women’s curling teams who have won their respective local club championships. Winning teams from each club will be “The Dominion Club Champions” and will playdown to produce a provincial/territorial champion from all ten provinces and three territories, plus a sep-arate entry for Northern Ontario, who will then compete at the national level.

The event gives grass roots curling teams from every corner of the country an opportu-nity to compete in provincial/territorial and national level competition. Club curlers are those who enjoy the sport recreationally, supporting club leagues on a regular basis from September to April. These teams now have a venue to demonstrate their skill against other curling clubs in their province/territory and country.

This is the ultimate experience for club curlers. Provincial and Territorial Champions re-ceive travel, accommodations, and meals, provincial/territorial on-ice jackets and shirts as well as a championship banner to hang proudly in their home club – all courtesy of The Dominion.

Interested Ladies and Men’s teams can register for the Bonspiel scheduled for January 17 - 19, 2014 by submitting their entry form with the $210.00 entry fee to the SPCC office before the January 14 deadline.

Thank you!

Sherwood Park Curling Club – Doubles CurlingPurpose:To expand the curling opportunities at the SPCC by adding a new and innovative curling experience. This format will allow us to accommodate drop-in/casual curler and members.

RationaleIt has become increasingly evident that people’s time is their most precious commodity. The doubles curling format addresses three key issues. Time, a doubles game can be played in approx. 1 hour, Team Composition, since only two players are required, team make-up is much easier, and we have had many request for a family oriented league. This format allows us to address that question as well.

Team CompositionThe SPCC Team composition is an open format. This will allow the SPCC to accommodate any mixture of teams comprised of Ladies, Men, Mixed, Juniors, family, etc.

Format/RulesThe SPCC will use the world curling doubles format and local rules.

Registration can be done on the website or by calling the SPCC office.

Doubles Curling - Why?One hour games - Winning Team receives $20 gift cert.

Family, friends, drop-ins all welcome.
