When I moved to the old city of Jerusalem in 1973, I found a

community of people overtly friendly when they found out I

was from the United States. In a region where many citizensopenly celebrated the destruction of the Twin Towers, Israel

maintains strong ties with the United States and needs our

    help.

An estimated 12.7% of the U.S. population lives below the

poverty line and critics of overseas missionary programs say

we should help people within our borders before relieving

suffering in Africa and the Middle East. But, Christians have a

Biblical admonition to help Israel, where a staggering 30% of

    the population lives in poverty.

Non-Jewish believers in the first century were eager to help

their Jewish bretheran, said SHCC Pastor Bron Barkley in a

video production soon to be released. Barkley sited scriptures

from Romans (15:26) describing an instance of Non-Jewish

Christian believers living outside Jerusalem collecting

supplies to send to the Jewish followers of Jeshua living in

    Jerusalem.

Vision for Israel and The Joseph Storehouse were established

in 1994 to provide food, clothing, and medical supplies to

needy Jewish and Arab families. The first center opened in the

Judean Hills outside Jerusalem in 1998 and has expanded to

include warehouses in England and the United States. One

center is in Kingwood, Texas, north of Houston.

Pat Brooks, director of the Kingwood Joseph Storehouse, says

volunteers and donations from the Houston area and Texas are

needed. Brooks was invited to head the Kingwood operation

by Barry and Batya Segal, administrators and founders of the

    program who live in Israel.

She said a major project held prior to each school year is

collecting money for the purchase of back packs for school

    children.

The population of Israel has been bolstered in recent years by

    Why help the poor

    of Israel?By Jim Becka

hundreds of thousands of immigrants from Russia, the

Ukraine, Ethiopia, the U.S.A., and countries from throughout

the world. Many are forced to leave their possessions behind.

Living conditions have worsened in Israel in the aftermath of

the Palestinian terror war. Tourism, once the top earner of

foreign currency has collapsed, impacting hotels, restaurants,

and thousands of jobs. Nearly 1.5 million Israelis, out of a

population of 6.7 million are in need of food and medicalsupplies.

According to SHCC Rabbi Mort Petrushansky, giving should

be a characteristic of Christian fellowships. He said Christians

should be willing to provide assistance to people within their

fellowships and to the needy of the world.

    Breaking Generational CursesIsaiah 51:21-22

Therefore hear this, you afflicted one, made drunk, but not with wine. This is what

your Sovereign Lord says, your God, who

defends his people: See I have taken out of

your hand the cup of trembling, the goblet of

my wrath, you will never drink it again. I

will put it into the hands of your

    tormentors....who walked all over you.

Ezekiel 18:2-3And the fathers ate sour grapes and

the childrens teeth are set on edge. As

surely as I live, declares the Sovereign Lord, you will no longer quote this proverb in Israel. For every living soul belongs to me, the father as

well as the son -both alike belong to me. The soul who sins is the one who will die.

    Another Scripture For Your Children

Isaiah 54:13Our children are taught of the Lord and great are the peace and undisturbed composure

    of our children.

John 6:45It is written in the scripture of the prophets: They will be taught by God, everyone who

listens to the Father and learns from Him comes to me.
