ANOTHER HINT FOR USING MY LION
By now I trust many of you are working through the recording of service projects
and other activities via MyLion. I was aware that there were some issues last month
with access MyLion it is back on deck now. Remember, I am available if you have
any questions on using this new reporting mechanism. If I can’t answer your
questions, I will endeavour to find the answer for you.
My first two reports have been related to the setting up of Signature Projects and
recording events and activities after the event. This month I have a hint on how to
make the recording of your service activities at bit easier each month. You can do
this by making use of the copy facility.
When you open MyLion you will receive a home screen that will look something like
this
Here you see that I have two upcoming activities which are both signature activities.
If I want to either report on a similar activity or set up the same project for the next
month, I can do this by using the copy option. A double click on the one I want to
copy – I will do the Bunnings BBQ – and this screen appears.
A simple click on the Copy Activity Orange Button – RED ARROW- will bring up this
screen.

“SHAPING OUR FUTURE TOGETHER – WE SERVE”
Here you are given the option of setting up a future activity or reporting on a past
activity that you had not set up prior to the date. Choose the one you want - click
CONTINUE and the new activity will appear and all you have to do is fill in the
dates and times and continue as normal.
Just a little trick to speed up your monthly reporting of activities and projects as
all the options you selected when you set up the original event will be repeated.
Remember, if you identify any shortcuts or other issues please let me know so I
can check them out and share them with the rest of the District.

ENVIRONMENT – ONE OF THE FIVE GLOBAL CAUSES
As I reported in the August edition of the District Newsletter, I have been tasked with
promoting the Environment for the District as one of LCI’s five Global Causes. My role is to
promote greater involvement from Clubs in our District in Environment-related projects and
activities.
Environmental activities have been a significant focus of Lions for many years, both
internationally and in Australia. Lions have engaged in tree planting, bush care,
establishment and care of parks and gardens, cleaning up of roadways and waterways, and
recycling of a whole range of materials, to name a few areas.
As stated in my previous article, my focus for the year will be promoting the themes of:
• Sustainability and the War on Waste, and
• Bushcare
I believe that a number of clubs in our District would have been involved in National Tree
Day activities on Sunday 28th July, although MyLion does not reflect this (with more
thorough reporting of Service Activities, we will be able to quantify our various activities with
more confidence). National Tree Day is one of many National and International days that we
may support in conjunction with the communities in which we live and operate.
A Google search on “Environmental days Australia” will find a wide range of days relating to
the Environment. There would undoubtedly be some days that would appeal to some of our
Club members and to members of our communities.
Lions Environmental Photo Competition
We will be conducting the Lions Environmental Photo Competition again this year along
similar lines to previous years. The theme for this year’s competition will be “Sustainability
and the War on Waste”. The Entry Form which includes the Competition Rules and other
information has been sent out on “Announce” and is also included in this District Newsletter.
Display Booth at District Convention
Leo Emily Conn and I will be organising a Display Booth at our upcoming District Convention
in Caboolture. As well as the photos from the Environmental Photo Competition, we will have
a range of information available, together with a display of some products that can help us
all in our War on Waste. Please come and see us at Convention.
I look forward to working with Clubs, Zones, and members in our District in supporting and
promoting new and existing activities around our Global Cause of the Environment. I believe
this is an area with much scope for increased hands-on service activity with minimal
financial outlay.
I would love to hear about some of the different Environment-related projects and activities
that your Club is involved with. I would be more than happy to visit Clubs and Zones to
speak about the Environment and to support your activities in this area.

TOOWOOMBA WEST LIONS CLUB INTERNATIONAL CENTENARY PROJECT
On Sunday 11th Aug 2019 members of the
Lions Club of Toowoomba West Inc. and
guests attended the official opening of the
project by President Nerida Turner at the
Lions Park, Picnic Point, Toowoomba.
The project was done in three stages, where
the shade sails were erected on top of the
Lions train tunnel, then a concrete slab
laid, followed by the installation of four
tables and eight bench seats. Two of the
tables are wheelchair accessible.
Funding for the shade sails and furniture
was raised by the Club members and a
previous Club member, Roy Brook,
generously covered the cost of the concrete,
which the Club members greatly
appreciated.
Since its construction the facility has been
a very popular addition to the facilities at
the park.

MOOLOOLAH VALLEY LIONS
The Inaugural Mooloolah Valley Lions Club
‘Welcome Dinner’ held at the Mooloolah State
School Hall on August the 7th was a huge
success with many guests sending positive
comments following the event.
Matt O’Grady from Ray White Sippy Downs
wrote:
“I just wanted to say thank you for last night
and please pass this onto all involved in
making the night a success because you all
should be proud. I loved having the speakers
up there explaining everything from rural fire
safety to what the community has to offer
and how the community and the politicians
are effectively working together to encourage
and nurture this. My food was great, the
evening was light-hearted and most
importantly it wasn't a sales pitch for
something, and I came away incredibly proud
to live and be part of this community”.
‘You guys rock! Thank you’
Ninety one guests, including two Mooloolah
State School P & C committee members who
assisted with the bar, enjoyed a delicious
meal catered for by ‘The Orangery’. There
were twenty-eight newcomers at the dinner
who were able to mingle with other guests
and browse displays facilitated by local
community organisations.
Another comment came from a couple of new
residents on social media;
“I would like to thank the organisers and
sponsors of the Welcome Dinner held at the
school hall earlier this evening. “My husband
Rob and I thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. We
had the pleasure of meeting several
community members and sat down to a
delicious meal. Also, lucky enough to win a
lovely bottle of wine. We only moved to
Mooloolah a couple of months ago and love
being part of the community! Thanks again
for a great night and I hope to meet more of
you soon”.
The Welcome Dinner, which was initiated 14
years ago by Lion Colin Sinclair from Maleny
Lions club, is a great community project for
Lions Clubs everywhere. Thank you to all
members from other Lions Clubs who
attended the dinner. We are looking forward
to hosting the dinner again next year.

MOGGILL MT CROSBY
CELEBRATE FORTY YEARS
Moggill-Mt Crosby Lions members past and
present, their partners and guests celebrated
the Club’s many achievements at a 40th
Anniversary dinner at Karana Downs on
Tuesday 2nd July.
The Member for Moggill, Dr Christian Rowan
MP, and Lions Past District Governor, Carmel
Goldsworthy attended, to congratulate the
Club for forty years of community service and
fundraising for Lions projects and other local
activities.
The Club’s signature project, the Ipswich100
charity bike ride, now in its 20th year, has
raised more than $1.1 million in total for local
charities and Lions projects since it was first
run in 2000. Retired Lion Bob McGregor, who
founded the ride and still serves as rider
convenor, attended the dinner with his wife
Lydia. He was one of twenty club Presidents
who served a total of twenty-seven years
leading the Club who attended.
The dinner was held at the same venue (now
Brisbane River Golf Club) where in May 1979,
a public meeting resolved to set up Moggill
Lions Club. It was officially chartered under
its first president, Ray Crompton, at a
University of Queensland dinner in July
1979.
Ray could not attend the 40th anniversary
dinner but sent a message of congratulations,
noting the Club’s founding principles -
including being family-based with solid
community projects - were still relevant
today.
Charter member and President 1981-82 and
1990-91, Lindsay Stewart, entertained the
dinner with anecdotes on Club projects over
many years. These included Leukemia House
at Herston; Lions Park Bellbowrie; Kangaroo
Gully Stampede; Garden Expos at McIntyre
Centre Pinjarra Hills, and Lions Nature Trail
at Karana Downs.
Lions PDG Carmel inducted two Moggill
Mount Crosby Lions as Melvin Jones Fellows
for outstanding service; John Nankivell and
Graham Smith.
Lions Melvin Jones Fellows: John Nankivell (President
2005-06) with Graham Smith (President 2014-15) are
congratulated by Steve Rainbow (President 2015-16 and
2016-17) and Denice Rainbow.
John was previously Ipswich100 ride manager
and Club President in 2005-06. Graham is
active in the SES and Men’s Shed and was
Club President in 2014-15 and has organised
Lions Christmas Cake sales for many years.
Past District Governor Carmel inducted Don
Mansfield as Moggill Mount Crosby President
for 2019-20 … his third presidential term.
Carmel presented outgoing president, Ross
Munro with a framed certificate from Lions
acknowledging Moggill Mount Crosby Lions
40th anniversary and record of success as a
service Club. David Landers

SANDSTONE POINT
MEDICAL MAYHEM NIGHT
Truly, our guest speaker Alan Norman
wondered what he had come to when
arriving at the Club Meeting. While he was
aware of there being an Over 50’s Village
next door, he was unsure if the medical
section had been let out for the evening.
Alan provided the members with an
excellent insight into the operations of
Angel Flight. It is a voluntary organisation
with 85% of its revenue going to the
provision of fuel and five full-time staff who
coordinate approximately 20 flights per day
in Australia.
Alan is a member of the volunteer driver
team, who collects patients from
Archerfield Airport and conveys them to
their medical appointments in Brisbane.
Like Alan and his car, planes and pilots are
also part of the voluntary team. It was a
pleasure to have Alan spend some of his
valuable time with us.

ROMA’S FISH AND CHIPS IN THE PARK
The evening of 27th July was a very pleasant
evening. We commence serving about 5pm.
The normal winter chills stayed away for the
evening. This encouraged the community to
stick around and not run off to a warm house.
Some community members stuck around till
we started packing up the tables etc before they
decamped the park.
The monthly “Fish and Chips in the Park” event
is continuing to be a drawcard with the
community still very much behind us. The
evening usually starts about 3pm with
available Lions arriving to commence the setup.
Schools also finishes for the day so the LEOs
arrive to help with their usual enthusiastic
energy. Chairs, tables and equipment are set
out so the community members can relax and
meet with friends and family while enjoying a
fresh serve of crumbed fish and chips.
Our servings for the night were 330 pieces of
fish, 85kg of chips, 180 potato scallops and
10kg of doughnut cake mix making approx.
320 doughnuts. All the cooking occurred over
a 2½ hour period. As usual there were no
doughnuts left for lions to nibble on. Clean up
and pack-away saw us out of the den by
8.30pm.
The new “All Abilities Toilet” in the park is a
further result and effort of our Fish and Chip
nights. It was not quite ready for occupancy for
our July 27th event. The new lighting is a
Solar/battery system meaning the power bill is
