Challenge

• Getting asphalt on the airfield in time

• Keep the trucks moving on and off the airfield

Motivation • Passengers/airlines – minimizing arrival delays and cancellations

• Contractors – delivery ahead of time

• Staff – minimizing double shifts for ASOs

• Airport Director – minimize cost of runway closure

1. Truck drivers’ details copied to clipboard sheet noting arrival and departure time etc

2. Typical process time was 2 mins/truck – but varied

3. Line of trucks congested local roads/highway 101

4. Asphalt cooled; reheating on airfield costly process

• 10,000 trucks processed in 7 weekends
