General Information

• ProcessDefined as a set of interrelated actions and activities performed to achieve a specified set of products, results, or services* / the act of taking something through an established and usually routine set of procedures to convert it from one thing to another.

• ProjectDefined as a temporary endeavor undertaken to create a unique product, service, or result.*

Therefore, projects and processes differ primarily as processes are ongoing and repetitive, while projects are temporary and unique.

Means to improve a process

• Create a clear picture of the currents process/es (baseline for improvement and for identification of the new streamline processes);

• Reduce lead times (process and/or projects) by removing any excess process / making changes to existing ones;

• Install a proper communication system / process;• Provide standardized activities / forms;• Provide clear tools / define clear, transparent and

understandable rules at process and project level;

Streamline the CDM process

• Increase the communication with stakeholders (mainly between UNFCCC Secretariat and PPs – DOEs);

• Provide focal points / communication channels;• Reduce lead times for EB decisions;• Standardize/define project activities (rules) and forms (such as

DOEs reports);• Provide timelines for projects / ways to end projects;• Provide clear tools / define clear, transparent, understandable ,

general accepted and reasonable rules at process and project level;

• Define concrete, clear and reachable timelines in the processes for all participants;

• Summary of decisions and their applicability.

Conclusions

• There is always a place for improvement;

• Some are already being undertaken (EB59 annex 16 & 17);

• Main goal is to reduce complexity of the process/es;

• Any streamline of the process/es done will help to all of us.
