How do you view your pots?
Transactional Leadership
• Lead people based on what they can do for you or the organization
• People are motivated by reward and punishment.• Social systems work best with a clear chain of
command.• When people have agreed to do a job, a part of
the deal is that they surrender all authority to their manager.
• The prime purpose of a subordinate is to do what their manager tells them to do.
Transformational Leadership
• People will follow a person who inspires them.• Care about people and want them to succeed.• A person with vision and passion can achieve
great things.• The way to get things done is by injecting
enthusiasm and energy.
Discussion Questions• In small groups, give examples of
persons (without the names) you have worked with that are transactional leaders and transformational leaders.
Servant Leadership
Matthew 20:20-28 (NIV)
25 Jesus called them together and said, "You know that the rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and their high officials exercise authority over them. 26 Not so with you. Instead, whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant, 27 and whoever wants to be first must be your slave-- 28 just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many."
Five Fundamental Practices of Servant
Leaders• Challenge the Process• Inspire a Shared Vision• Enable others to act• Model the way• Encourage the heart
