So many of us are seeking ways to take better care of ourselves, to feel more energy, to promote our health and the information out there can be over-whelming! i am finding that picking and choosing small changes can really make a difference.

Personally, I have begun buying organic meats and local produce, I try to meditate for 15 minutes every day and I am trying to take self care seriously. i schedule a massage when my body needs one and I meet my friend for a pedicure every month. To me this means being aware of how i’m feeling and responding to those messages, not just pushing it away so i can accomplish everything on my to-do list!

As always, whatever I am experiencing, I try to interpret for the Body Serene so we can continue to share, grow and evolve to meet the needs of our wonderful community! it is in this spirit that we are introducing the amazing Kneipp line of naturopathic products designed to address different needs. Please check out our product spotlight for insight on the transformational qualities of this versatile and effective line!

We are also planning to bring new classes, events, book signings and more designed to expand the offerings to our customers who are excited to learn more about how to take good care of themselves and their families! Stay tuned and tuned in!

Thanks,Roseanne

Questions & ANSWERS ON MASSAGE SAFETY, WITH THE BODY SERENEWe are often asked questions about how and why we do things in a certain way at the Body Serene. We thought it would be good to share some answers with you!

Q: does a massage therapist need to be licensed?

A: In 2010 Pennsylvania enacted legislation requiring anyone practicing massage to obtain a license from the state. The Body Serene massage team is made up of an amazing group of licensed therapist with over 80 years of combined experience!

Q: How old do you have to be to receive a massage?

A: Minors (under 18) are required by law to have written consent from a parent or guardian in addition to having that parent or guardian in the room during the massage. The Body Serene welcomes minors age 14-17 years old for massage services within these guidelines. We have many student athletes who benefit from our massage services!

Q: Why do i always need to fill out a form?A: You will be asked about your health status each and every time you receive bodywork. Many folks don’t give it much thought, particularly if they

receive massage services on a regular basis but there are instances where we would need to make modifications to ensure our guest’s safety. For example, we do not perform massage on someone in their first trimester of pregnancy or immediately following surgery.

As much as many physicians approve and encourage massage as a adjunct therapy they will need to contacted when certain concerns arise.

Q: What type of concerns? A: Recent surgery, ongoing illness or recent diagnosis, high risk pregnancy, acute injuries and certain medications are some of the more common

situations that would require a physician approval prior to receiving a massage.

“It is certainly not our intention to cause irritation, inconvenience or added stress to our guests. Massage therapists are held to high ethical standards to do no harm. This why we need health information and sometime medical clearance to determine whether massage is appropriate.” – Rosanna Smith, LMT.

Q: How often should i receive massage therapy?A: Massage is no longer viewed as a luxury. Massage is wellness driven and science has shown it to relieve stress as well as muscular and systemic is-

sues. Some chronic conditions require massage on a frequent basis to achieve results. Our Body Serene Therapists make individualized recommendations for home care and frequency of visits every time a guest received a treatment.

Q: What should i communicate to my therapist during a visit?A: In addition to any changes in health status it is important to say how you are feeling in the moment. Let your therapist know if you are too hot or

cold, if there is too little or too much pressure or any other issue that could take away from your experience. It is ok at times to chat but you may be guided to relax your mind into quiet. Remember, it is your session, be sure to get the most of it! Since one of our core values is SAFETY for our customers and our team we keep this in the forefront of all we do!
