SERVICES SETA THE HAND THAT GIVES… The symbolism of the hand has its etymology in many different cultures throughout the world. A lot of the symbolism has travelled and derived new meaning as it went. For example a raised hand in Hebrew means Shaddai which means the Almighty God. The hand has also been used to signal peace as the priestly greeting suggests, or the halting of a situation. There is no specific universal Unicode for the hand per se, resulting in it being open to many colloquial interpretations. Centred in the middle of the two hands is the name Services SETA which forms the epicentre of our logo. It is the hero between the two hands and therefore pictorially the most memorable component. The primary colour we’ve chosen is a reddish orange. It is refreshing. It is warm and when used in contrast with the positive retention of the white space inside the white circle, it becomes more prominent in its circular structure. The circle is the universal symbol of equality and strength in unity. The undertone between the two hands is that the hand beneath - receiving from the hand above, that the stakeholder’s hand is receiving skills development and support from the Services SETA hand. The logo works effectively and strongly as a total sum of its components and strongly complements the new pay-off line. Develop and Grow.

The Services SETA Chambers Operation unit has six(6) chambers responsible for operational activities aimed at providing service to sixteen (16) sub-sectors. There are six chamber committeees who plays an oversight and are responsible for ensuring that the interests of industry find expression in the skills development policies that the Services SETA adopts. All of these roles ultimately ensure that the SETA seemlessly deliver on its manadate and meets set targets. Whilst the Services SETA derives its current primary mandate from the NSDS III, there are other obligations such as the ones imposed by various government policies on job creation, the National Development Plan, the PFMA, the SDA, SDLA and related regulations. To meet the obligations imposed by these aforesaid diverse legislation and policy, the Services SETA must ensure that systems and that its strategic mandate is operationalised down to the lowest level to ensure that the Services Sector training needs are met. Central to its mandate , the Services SETA has to make sure that there are relevant qualifications covering each occupation across all Services SETA subsectors. These qualifications are reviewed every 3 years to ensure that they continually respond to and meet the ever-changing needs of our industries. All qualifications are developed in partnership with the social partners, specifically business and labour who are equally represented in the governance structures. Working with other units within the SETA, Chambers Operations needs to put measures in place to ensure that there are sufficient training providers, constituent assessors and moderators to train against the qualifications and that the spread of these providers is national, provincial and local so as to meet the needs of industry in full, irrespective of location.The Chambers also have to interact with industry to identify their skills development needs so that discretionary grant allocations can be directed at meeting those needs. The vast proportion of Services SETA member companies are SMME and are therefore exempted from paying levies.This complicates the Services SETA’s work in the sense that the levy funds collected from less than 30 000 companies in the services sector have to fund the activities and additional obligations imposed by NSDS III imperatives to target all 180 000 companies that fall within the sector. This is the economy of scale balance that the Services SETA operates under. Additionaly, the balancing act must enable sufficient access and flow of benefits and opportunities so that no particular group is over-advantaged or under-serviced. In order to achieve this, the Services SETA must continuosly analyse the uptake of offerings in order to ensure that the base is broadened to include underserved subsectors, provinces and districts, including rural areas.

APPOINTMENT OF NEW CHAMBER COMMITTEES

The mandate of Chamber Committees appointed in 2014 expired on 31 March 2016. Soon thereafter, the

Services SETA initiated the process of appointing new Chamber Committees through open nominations by

stakeholders.

The Services SETA is pleased to report that the new Chamber Committees have been appointed and the

committees have commenced with their work and have undergone an induction process. The Communications

DEVELOPMENT OF MARKETING QUALIFICATIONS

In a recent scheduled workshop between the Communication and Marketing Services Chamber and the Industry role players, The Services SETA has taken the initiative to start a process of developing an occupational qualification for the marketing industry. A workshop with stakeholders took place in which parameters of the application for the development of the qualification and assessment strategy development process were discussed, which will ultimately result in one, or a number of occupational qualifications being developed. At the workshop, the development of two such occupational qualifications was discussed by the stakeholders for the occupation/s: This process is governed by an act which stipulates that all qualifications are developed for the industry by the industry, on a need driven basis. Two Occupational Occupations were identified by the industry for development: The applications were compiled by the industry on the 27 May 2016 at a workshop and were submitted to

the relevant department for submission to Quality Council for Trades and Occupations (QCTO) for the

development of the qualifications.

QUALIFICATIONS DEVELOPMENT

The Services SETA is in the process of consultations with various stakeholders within subsectors in order to identify the need for developing new qualifications. Once these have been identified, new qualifications will be developed using established Quality Council for Trades and Occupations - QCTO protocols and processes. qualification should be in place by this time. Stakeholders are urged to avail themselves for consultation on acceptable transitional mechanisms in order to avoid a vacuum of qualifications

during the transition period.

A new Accounting Authority was established with committees and sub-sectors.

Chambers will be convening key sub-sector stakeholder engagements and

workshops. Each project will have a stakeholder structure to help improve on and

implement plans. The Services SETA intends to establish a relationship with all

service delivery based on that feedback.

oogle+ (pronounced Google plus)

is Google's social networking

project, designed to replicate the

way people interact offline more

closely than is the case in other

social networking services. The

project’s slogan is “Real-life sharing

rethought for the web.”

ikipedia is a free, open content

online encyclopedia created

through the collaborative effort of a

community of users known as

Wikipedia’s. Anyone registered on

the site can create an article for

publication; registration is not

required to edit articles. Wikipedia

was founded in January of 2001.

inkedIn is a social networking site

designed specifically for the

business community. The goal of

the site is to allow registered

members to establish and

document networks of people they

know and trust professionally.

eddit is a social news website and

forum where stories are socially

curated and promoted by site

members. The site is composed of

hundreds of sub-communities,

known as "subreddits." Each

subreddit has a specific topic such

as technology, politics or music.

Reddit site members, also known

as, "redditors," submit content

which is then voted upon by other

members. The goal is to send well-

regarded stories to the top of the

site's main thread page.

interest is a social curation

website for sharing and

categorizing images found online.

Pinterest requires brief descriptions

but the main focus of the site is

visual. Clicking on an image will

take you to the original source, so,

for example, if you click on a picture

of a pair of shoes, you might be
