Back To

Scho

ol

Back to school means back to a normal sched-

ule. Bedtime, packed lunches, and school supplies.

For most of us, we plan our shopping strategy. We

try to maximize our savings by being thrifty. However,

this does not imply that we are not able to provide

the best quality for our child's needs. Don't feel over-

whelmed. Of course, you plan to be prepared as you

can be. Just focus on what is needed now. Then, we

all know that the teacher sends home the supplies

that they want the kids to have.

School Time. Whew! Relief at

Last. Although I don't look forward

to the school supply lists and

shopping for the big day, I am

grateful for the no-kid days that

are before me. I love my kids, but

I am not fond of those long sum-

mer days Here are some tips to

help you along the way..

Shop without the little ones.. This

avoids all the "I Wants" while you

are shopping in the store.

Shop on line to save time.

We have comprised a few deals

to help you along the way…

Remember school is an

adventure…. Learn, Live & be

Educated!

The increasing prices of food have caused our wallets to take a hit. Depending

on the size of your family, this can be a challenge keeping food in your home. The

ever-changing economy has forced us to be creative with our money With a little

time and planning, couponing can really help you take control of your food bill. I

find that I hear from complaining about couponing from people like.. It takes too

long, where do I find the coupons, they expire too fast, and my personal favorite, I

don't have enough time. But the truth is your really can't afford not to have any of

these excuses. These few suggestions can save you time and money. You might

even find yourself feeding your family better.

Be a smart shopper

Use couponing sites like http://www.thecentsableshoppin.com/

Make a list

Collect the Sunday paper. Pull out the Red Plum, Smart shopper and P&G all of

these have valuable savings. Look at the website for dates and products your look-

ing for then just clip and save.

Take snacks

and fill water bottles for on the go. Eating out can be expensive.

Plan your meals for the week. This will help cut down on the bill and equal great

saving in the long run.

Find your Local Activity

After School Activities can give your child skills for a lifetime.

Taking time for your children are not only necessary but, can make a big difference in

their learning process and social skills. Do you allow your kids to spend all of their lei-

sure time parked in front of the television or playing video games, parents who en-

courage their children to participate in activities outside of the home are helping in

their development. I have seen many parents who either home school or hold their

children back from interacting with others. Unfortunately, this keeps them in a shel-

tered environment. Some tips to help get them out of your and their comfort zone in-

clude:

Find a sport or activity like dance that can not only give them exercise but help with

their coordination. Also these days child obesity is off the chart. Physical Activity can

create good habits for a lifetime.

Creativity: the beautiful side of this activity is to be able to see your children grow be-

yond their imaginations. Just think you could have the net Van Gogh on your hands.

In this complex world, even children can feel stress. They are expected to do well in

school and can often be subject to peer pressure. Activities that take place in a no-

pressure environment and are just for fun are a good way to relax and enjoy meeting

new friends.

It amazed me how many people forget the importance of this lifelong skill. The joy of

learning lifelong lessons about sportsmanship can give a understanding that it isn't

always about winning, but about participating and giving your best effort.

Children are precious and a joy to watch grow and become a part of todays society. I

hope that these tips help give you and your children confidence to try different activi-

ties.

I am the founder of Whit by Designz.

As a socially conscious Entrepreneur, I am

known as a driven, passionate, motivated, and

a persistent business woman. My passions re-

side in design, entertainment, and business. I

have specifically chosen to be a forward think-

ing investor who is connected to technology

through a mobile app company. I work with as

well as nature through a natural spring water

company to help find viable supply solutions re-

lated to the needed water resources for the very

dry Arizona.

My 15 years of experience in the Corporate

world has given me a solid foundation to branch

out into other areas and do more with my artistic

ability. Besides technology and nature, the en-

tertainment side thru writing has evolved quickly

and I’m in the process of developing several

projects… I have written a suspense thriller with

a Hitchcock flare and am also currently in the

process of writing a comedy sitcom based on

the corporate world I originally started in. I must

admit however, my real artistic focus is a shoe

line, Harvey Burton Shoes.

Why this name? This

was my father’s name; he was

such a huge inspiration in my

life, and wonderful father, that

the only way to really celebrate

him was naming the shoe brand

after him. When you purchase

a pair of Harvey Burtons a per-

centage of that will be given to a

Charity of choice.

Whit By Designz is

unique in many avenues. I am

in the process of combining

Shoes, Art and sports. Please

stay tuned and follow my blog,

on the steps and processes for

starting a shoe line. Whit By

In addition, I am the creator and de-

signer for Whit by Designz. When I first

thought of this idea, I thought I was nuts,

however, I have surrounded myself with

positive thinkers like me and realizing hey...

this could really be something BIG!! I'm not

going to give too much information but it

goes something like this. I am creating a

shoe line, that will be incorporating shoes,

art, and of course sports. I love sports! I

play basketball when I have some down-

time, right now my downtime is working

overtime to making this concept come to

life. I will say the deadline and goal is

geared around the Super Bowl here in Ari-

Several years ago, a book titled Men

Are From Mars, Women Are From Venus

was quite popular. As the title suggests, the

book argues that men and women are vast-

ly different from each other, particularly in

their emotional needs and in the way they

communicate. While not everyone agrees

with the notion that men and women might

as well be from different planets, most of us

would probably concur that the two genders

frequently behave differently — and this di-

vergence in behavior may also show up in

the way that we invest.

In fact, various studies and anec-

dotal evidence suggests these differences

in the way that men and women invest:

Men tend to trade more often than

women. Men seem to buy and sell invest-

ments more frequently than women. This

difference could result in an advantage for

women investors. For one thing, if women

do trade less, they may incur fewer commis-

sion charges, fees and other expenses, all

of which can eat into investment returns. Al-

so, by holding investments longer, women

may be able to take better advantage of

market rallies. During the 2008-2009 finan-

cial crisis, for example, men were more like-

ly than women to sell shares of stock at

market lows, which led to bigger losses

among male traders —

During the 2008-2009 financial

crisis, for example, men were more

likely than women to sell shares of

stock at market lows, which led to

bigger losses among male traders —

and fewer gains when some of the

stock values began to rise again,

according to a study by Vanguard, a

mutual fund company.

Men tend to invest more ag-

gressively than women. Perhaps not

surprisingly, men seem to be more

willing to take risks with their invest-

ments. This trait can be both positive

and negative. On the positive side,

risk is associated with reward, so the

more aggressive the investment, the

greater the potential for growth. On

the negative side, taking too much

risk pretty much speaks for itself.

Ideally, all investors — men and

women — should stick with invest-

ments that fit their individual risk tol-

erance.

Do Women and Men Invest Differently?

W omen are more likely to

look at the “big picture.” Although both

men and women investors want infor-

mation, women seem to take a more

“holistic” approach — that is, instead of

focusing strictly on performance statistics,

they tend to delve deeper into their invest-

ments’ background, competitive environ-

ment and other factors. This quest for ad-

ditional knowledge may help explain why

all-female investment clubs have

achieved greater returns than all-male

clubs, according to a study by the Nation-

al Association of Investors Corp., which

represents thousands of investment clubs

across the country.

Men may be more optimistic about

the financial markets. Some studies show

that men are more optimistic about key

economic indicators and future stock mar-

ket performance. Optimism can be a valu-

able asset when it comes to investing; if

you have confidence in the future, you’re

more likely to invest for it, and to contin-

ue investing. On the other hand, false

optimism may lead to over-confidence,

which can have negative results for in-

vestors.

Neither men nor women

have a monopoly on positive invest-

ment behaviors; each gender can

probably learn something from the

other. Ultimately, of course, it’s your

decision-making, not your x-or y chro-

mosomes, that will determine your

ability to make progress toward your

long-term goals — so educate your-

self about your choices, and get the

help you need from a financial profes-

sional, as you invest through the

years.

Everyone wants to understand Barter

The kids are back in school, giving parents everywhere some much needed down

time. What will you do with your new-found free time? Kick back and find a hobby, try to earn some extra cash, or both?

Network marketing can be a fantastic way to earn a little (or a lot!) of extra

money. Oftentimes, parents get into this type of business in hopes of being able to stay home with their children.

Unfortunately, this industry is riddled with folks trying to peddle products

and their business for the wrong reason. Many leave network marketing frustrated and no better off than when they started- that’s why I started Choosing A Home-Based Career . I have seen too many friends try network marketing and leave empty-

handed, so I set out to de-mystify the industry.

Here are my top three tips to ensure your success in network marketing.

Choose a company whose products you are truly passionate about. Don’t jump onboard with Herbalife just because your friend told you to- if you’re going to be a representative of a company you need to passionately stand behind their products. Try the company’s products yourself first.

Align yourself with a company that still offers a real opportunity to their new reps. Generally speaking, the longer a company has been around, the more saturated their market (and recruiting potential) is.

Look at the company’s products- are they unique? Avon and Mary Kay offer a few good products, but nearly every type of product they offer can be purchased with ease in numerous stores or online. For women who are interested in Avon or Mary Kay, I would highly recommend looking at Nerium International in-stead.

For more tips and advice on how to succeed in network market-

ing, please visit my website at http://www.choosingahome-basedcareer.com .

Prep Time: 20 minutes

Cook Time: 10 minutes

Total Time: 30 minutes

Yield: 4 - 5 servings

Ingredients

1 1/2 lbs boneless skinless chicken breasts (I sliced

mine in half through the thickness before grilling)

Salt and freshly ground black pepper

1/2 cup BBQ sauce, homemade or store bought

1 large head (18 oz) Romaine lettuce, chopped

3 medium Roma tomatoes

1 - 2 avocados, diced

1 1/4 cups fresh or frozen corn (thawed and drained if

frozen)

1 (15 oz) can black beans, rinsed and drained

2 green onions, chopped

1 - 1 1/2 cups cheese (I used half cheddar half Monte-

rey jack, a Mexican blend would be fine too)

Corn tortilla strips*

Dressing

1/2 cup mayonnaise (could sub light mayo for a

healthier opt)

1/3 cup sour cream (could sub plain Greek yogurt for

a healthier opt)

1/3 cup milk

1 Tbsp + 1 tsp buttermilk ranch seasoning mix

1/3 cup cilantro (about a handful)

1 clove garlic, minced

Juice of 1 lime

2 - 3 pinches cayenne pepper (optional)

BBQ Chicken Salad with Cilantro Lime Ranch (Left)

Directions

Preheat a grill to medium-high heat. Sea-

son chicken breasts with salt and pepper.

Brush grill grates lightly with canola or

vegetable oil then place chicken on grill

and cook rotating once halfway through

cooking and brushing both sides with

BBQ sauce during last minute or two of

grilling (mine only took about 4 minutes

per side, but grill time it will vary based

on thickness of chicken and temp of grill).

Transfer chicken to a plate, cover with foil

and let rest 5 - 10 minutes then slice into

small strips.

Layer all remaining ingredients into large

salad bowls, beginning with salad (then

from there the order doesn't matter).

Serve topped with Cilantro Lime Ranch.

For the dressing:

Combine all dressing ingredients in a

blender and process until cilantro is finely

chopped.

*I made homemade corn tortilla strips by

slicing 6 6-inch corn tortillas into strips

(and each strip into halves), then I fried in

about 1-inch of hot canola oil in a skillet

(vegetable oil works too), rotating once

halfway through with metal tongs, until

they just began to turn golden. Then

transferred to a plate lined with paper

towels and immediately sprinkled with

salt. Store bought is fine too if you don't

want to make them.

Ingredients

2 Tbsp extra virgin olive oil

1/3 cup finely chopped yellow onion

3 cloves garlic, minced

1 (28 oz) can crushed tomatoes

1 Tbsp tomato paste

2 Tbsp chopped fresh basil (or 2 tsp dry)

Salt and freshly ground black pepper

12 lasagna noodles

1 (10 oz) package fresh spinach,

steamed (or frozen, thawed)

15 oz ricotta cheese

1 large egg

2 Tbsp chopped fresh parsley (or 2 tsp

dry)

10 oz mozzarella, shredded, divided (2

1/2 cups)

3 oz finely asiago cheese (scant 1 cup)

2 oz finely shredded Romano or parme-

san cheese (2/3 cup)

Directions, For the marinara sauce:

Heat olive oil in a medium saucepan over

medium heat. Once hot, add onion and

sauté until tender about 3 minutes. Add

garlic and sauté 30 seconds longer. Add

crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, and

basil and season with salt and pepper to

taste. Reduce heat to low and allow to

simmer about 10 minutes, stirring occa-

sionally. Then remove from burner, cover

with lid and set aside.

For the pasta:

Prepare pasta according to directions

listed on package, then drain and once

noodles are cool enough to handle, align

on parchment or wax paper, side by side.

Preheat oven to 375 degrees.

For the cheese filling:

While pasta is boiling, drain steamed or

frozen spinach in paper towels, pressing

out some of the excess moisture (I would-

n't drain all of it, I think a little will keep the

noodles moist), then chop spinach. In a

mixing bowl stir together, spinach, ricotta,

egg, parsley and season with salt and

pepper to taste. Mix in 1 1/2 cups of the

mozzarella, the asiago and Romano

cheese.

To assemble lasagna roll ups:

Spread 1/4 cup (barely heaping) of the

cheese mixture evenly along length of the

noodles. Roll noodles up jelly roll style to

opposite end. Pour about 1 cup of the

marinara sauce into the bottom of a 13 by

9-inch baking dish. Place lasagna roll ups

in baking dish then cover tops with re-

maining marinara sauce and sprinkle with

remaining 1 cup mozzarella cheese. Bake

in preheated oven 20 - 28 minutes, until

cooked through.
