Randi and Charlie Wilson, both originally fromMinnesota, moved to the Sun Valley/Ketchum,Idaho area in the early 70s. They spent thenext 40 years camping, hiking, biking, cross-country skiing and, Charlie’s favorite, y shing.Randi has been designing and selling jewelryfor about 15 years, attending local art fairs andgalleries in Ketchum and Hailey, Idaho.
After living in such a beautiful place, it washard to leave but they were tired of the winters. They desired an active place that wasremote but offered outdoor recreation, nearby mountains, and opportunities to explorenew things.
In their search for a place to retire, they started with Arizona since they had beencoming here every year to visit family and Randi regularly attended the Tuscon Gem
and Mineral Show. After Charlie retired from the postal service and Randi from theHailey Public Library, they toured various Arizona communities. They realized that SunCity Festival was a great match for them and moved in 2009.
They enjoy all that Sun City Festival offers and are involved in the Ceramics/PotteryClub, Glass Arts Club, and Barrel Buddies. They are both working on their golf games, yoga, and regularly use the gym.
They enjoy meeting new people, making new friends and touring Arizona.

When it comes to exercise motivation we all need at least
a little. Sometimes we need a lot! Everyone has differentreasons for exercise. And some days those reasons aredifferent than others. Many strategies and tools can be used to start or maintain
an exercise habit. And typically, once exercise becomes habit and part of life, continuing isn’t as difcult as starting.
Motivation is dened as that which gives direction and purpose to behavior.
Some believe motivation will come with enough waiting. Perhaps we might bebetter served to understand that motivation is something we create. Creating
motivation can be as simple as setting a goal or deciding what’s important andstriving to reach it.
A goal for exercise/tness should be simple and attainable.A goal of taking a 20-minute walk three times per week is
very manageable and a great place to start. If possible, thegoals should build on themselves and become more chal-
lenging over time. And, the goals can be revised and re-newed as needed.
Great tools for motivation are rewards. Food rewards arenot included, especially if goals are weight loss. Having a
treat such as a massage, an outing to a ball game or movie,or taking a short trip can be a great reward after a month of
consistent (3 or 4 times per week) exercise. Or, the reward
may not be as concrete. Keeping in mind the rewards of lower blood pressure or cholesterol, improved blood sugar, or
better-tting clothes can also be great motivators.
Tracking progress or keeping a log is also a great motivational tool. Reviewing progress over a period of two or three months can be a great way to renew enthu-
siasm for the daily exercise ritual. This can be done with a pencil-and-paper log,or many high-tech on-line and electronic gadgets that are available.
Another great motivational tool is to have support. Support could come from a
wife, husband, sibling or child being a cheerleader. Or, support could be in theform of an exercise partner to ensure accountability. Few things keep us moti-vated like peer pressure.
Another critical factor to keep moving is not expecting perfection and to be ex-
ible. Always be aware of things in life getting in the way and remember it’s okayto occasionally miss a planned day of exercise.
Maintaining exercise habits and good health practices is always challenging.Motivation is always critical and often wanes in the face of distractions. Having
consistent and reasonable goals, nding encouragement from the outside andhaving an occasional reward are great ways to keep the ball rolling and be con-
sistent with a healthy lifestyle.
