Hol' 0pirit o$ /od that the hu%an race has e"er seen(

2 Insensitivity to God

The third chapter o$ ar+ spea+s o$ a ti%e )hen 2esus

and His disciples )ent into the s'na#o#ue( There, the

Pharisees )atched and )aited, tr'in# to accuse Hi% o$

so%e "iolation o$ their traditions(

ar+ 345 And he entered again into the synagogue;

and there was a man there which had a withered hand.

And they watched him, whether he would heal him on the

sabbath day; that they might accuse him. And he saith

unto the man which had the withered hand, Stand forth.

One translation sa's, 0tand in the %iddle( 2esus brou#hthi% ri#ht out in the %iddle to be seen, +no)in# that

And he saith unto them, Is it lawful to do good on the

sabbath days, or to do evil? to save life, or to kill? But

they held their eace. And when he had looked round

about on them with anger, being grieved for the hardness

hand. And he stretched it out! and his hand was restored

whole as the other. And the "harisees went forth, and

straightway took counsel with the Herodians against him,

The' )ere insensiti"e to Who )as in their %idst not

reali7in# that it )as /od( The', o$ all people, should ha"e

+no)n the scriptures( 2esus $it e"er' essianic prophec'

in the Word o$ /od( *ut the' had %ade traditions $ro%

the Word and )orshiped their traditions %ore than /od(

Don-t loo+ do)n on the%( We ha"e all done the sa%e

thin#( We ha"e had a 8$or% o$ #odliness and turned $ro%

the po)er thereo$(8 The reason is insensiti"it'9not bein#sensiti"e to the 0pirit o$ /od nor to the depth o$ the price

that /od Al%i#ht' paid so that )e can )orship Hi%( This

+ind o$ attitude an#ered 2esus(

Than+ /od, His an#er is but $or a %o%ent( We ha"e

preached it as thou#h it )as $ore"er and the %erc' o$ /od

)as but $or a %o%ent( ! ha"e deter%ined that ! )illpreach, 8His %erc' endureth $ore"er(8 The *ible sa's,

The Pharisees )ere insensiti"e to /od( When )e read

insensiti"it' o$ a hardened cri%inal to &uench the Hol'

0pirit( He is easily#rie"ed(

We loo+ at these Pharisees and the' loo+ bad to us(

The situation )as openl' hard, but not all insensiti"it'

loo+s that bad( An act o$ insensiti"it' can be so%ethin#

that reall' see%s insi#ni$icant(

! re%e%ber a particular instance )hen ! )as%inisterin# in a pra'er ser"ice and /od )as %o"in#

healin#( As soon as he )as healed the Pharisees le$t( The'

leaders brou#ht up be$ore the council and said, 8This %an

is a sinner(8> The' pestered hi% about 2esus until he

beca%e tired o$ it( He said, 8What i$ ! tell 'ou again, )illthat %a+e 'ou belie"e> ! )as blind and no) ! can see( !s

there so%e cri%e in bein# healed>8 ou )ould thin+ so

)hen 'ou are around people )ho ha"e no sensiti"it' in

their hearts( The' %a' be $ull o$ pit', and %a'be e"en a

little s'%path', but pit' and s'%path' are hu%an

e%otions( !-% tal+in# about ha"in# a heart sensiti"e to

/od and sensiti"e enou#h to other people to %eet theirneeds(

A sensiti"e heart is one )hich has the co%passion o$

/od %o"in# in it( 2esus )as %o"ed b' co%passion, not

An insensiti"e person )ill lea"e a church ser"ice in the

%iddle o$ an in"itation to the lost or )al+ out in the%iddle o$ the %inistr' to the sic+( The' thin+, 8Well, !-%

tired( ! ha"e to #et the children in school in the %ornin#(8

!t doesn-t %atter that there are people )ith serious needs

When t)o belie"ers co%e to#ether, their po)er and

stren#th in the spiritual real% is not doubled( The

presence o$ other belie"ers %ultiplies our $aith to the

tenth po)er( One can put a thousand to $li#ht, t)o can put

ten thousand to $li#ht( That %eans )hen so%eone lea"esdurin# the %inistr' to the oppressed there are at least nine

thousand de%ons that are unhindered because one other

belie"er stops addin# his $aith( 0o%eone that re%ained in

the ser"ice )ill ha"e to ta+e up that sel$ish person-s part(

3 Sensitivity to God

! a% astounded to )atch a reser"ed section o$ an

auditoriu% $ull o$ preachers and !Ps( an' ti%es

e"er'bod' in the con#re#ation is dancin# be$ore the Lord

and )orshipin# /od )hile the %inisters and leaders ha"e

bi# $ro)ns on their $aces )onderin# )hat is #oin# on( !n

this critical hour in histor', )e %ust be %ore sensiti"e

than that( As shepherds, )e ha"e to be sensiti"e to /odand be an exa%ple to the sheep(

ost people are not as harsh as the Pharisees but are

still insensiti"e to the Hol' 0pirit( E"en thou#h the

Pharisees le$t i%%ediatel', the rest o$ the% )ere still

)atchin# 2esus to accuse Hi%( No one in the cro)d )as

healed but the %an )ith the )ithered ar%( Nobod'( Wh'

do 'ou suppose that entire s'na#o#ue $ull o$ people )as

insensiti"e enou#h to #rie"e the Hol' 0pirit> *ecause,

their %inisters )ere insensiti"e to /od and the' $ollo)ed

throu#h the chain o$ co%%and( !n /od-s ar%', /od is the

Co%%anderinchie$ and 2esus is the Chie$o$sta$$( We

ha"e to be sensiti"e to their instructions(

Trainin# $or battle ta+es a lon# ti%e and %illions o$

dollars( A $i#hter plane has three or $our hours ran#e per

%ission( ou can $i#ht the total capabilit' o$ that aircra$t

in three and a hal$ hours( !t too+ 5? %onths to teach the
