inspirationArt has always been a portal into the feelings and thoughts

of an age. Each exploration of technique and each moment of discovery for an artist or

an art movement have come from a deep belief in change and can later define that era.

But for those who study and appreciate these pieces, often years after their

groundbreaking achievements, it is about the feelings that each individual work of art

evokes in them. Everything from color to texture, from simple lines to strong accents can

tap into a psyche and move the very essence of a viewer.

Here for your pleasure, from Senscience Liquid Luxury, is a tribute to all of the art lovers

of the world, people who appreciate beauty and unique vision and allow you, the

hairdressing artist, to apply your wealth of knowledge and skill to their tresses. Their

hair will become your canvas, your clay. Let them boldly walk among the ordinary and

everyday, displaying the art that lies within all of us…

Having multi-dimensional facets is the sign of a true art piece. It can hit you once and then again, from one angle and then another. The Collector brings together under color and under cutting with its short, sexy, diverse design. Hidden slices and freedom cutting complete this look through the front and sides. A mini masterpiece for the bold mind.

cut 01 Begin by sectioning the hair: Separate the front side sections from the back.

02 Then, separate the back into two sections, at an angle from the mid area above the ear, to the opposite side toward the bottom of the ear (as shown). Start your first section to the wider side of your angled parting.

03 Continue to cut moving across the head shape and overdirecting to leave your desired weight to the opposing side. (Tip: If the first few sections are too wide for your fingers, split section in two to keep even tension.)

08 Begin this top section as you did underneath, by choosing your shortest length and working back the opposite way, overdirecting for length.

09 You will determine the amount of length and weight you desire and over-direct accordingly until you reach the opposite side.

10 Top section finished, with bottom section still pinned out of the way.

11 Back with both sections down. Additional shot showing under cut through top cut. The front cut will be finished after the color.

color 01 Once back is complete, blow-dry all of the hair. Then, working an inch back from the hairline, take a small slice of hair (enough for 4 foils) and re-separate the undercut at the back from the top section.

02 Within the section at the front, place 4 back-to-back slices of Formula 1. (Tip: Choosing to have 2 shades in this area is up to your artistic license.)

03 Taking 3 slices from the longer side of the under cut, place back-to-back slices of Formula 1. OpTiOnal: On the rest of the under cut, color with Formula 1.

04 Weight will begin to build slightly as you move across the head shape.

05 As you work across the head shape, you may overdirect more or less according to the weight build up desired for the head of hair you are working on.

06 Under section completed. 07 Now, clipping the bottom section out of the way, you will drop the top section of the back down to begin cutting.

back to cut12 Once hair is clean, blow-dry hair using Senscience Smooth Gelee. Flat iron hair using Senscience Thermal Design Styling Spray. Using our Freedom cutting method (from the En Vogue collection), begin to shape the front side areas. Remember to angle your scissors to create your ultimate shape: the more 45 degree angle the more weight and beveled your shape will be; the more 90 degree angle, the more you will collapse your shape.

13 Remember that the side areas do not connect with the back. The cut will bend well enough, but the disconnection is the key to the freedom of this shape.

14 Continue to work through the whole shape until your blending is complete. Finish with appropriate Senscience products.

04 On the remainder of the hair, place Formula 2. (If your natural base is darker, you will need to pre-lighten or keep the pattern with complimentary colors to suit your client). Allow full processing time, then shampoo twice with appropriate Senscience shampoo and conditioner.

01 Shampoo and condition hair with appropriate Senscience products for hair type. Once hair is clean, add Senscience Volume Boost and blow-dry hair smooth. Once hair is dry and smooth, begin at the front of the head and take a square or rectangle section in the center. Spray with Thermal Design and braid (plait) the hair.

02 Once you have established your first braided section, move to either side of the first braid and continue the pattern throughout the front hairline.

03 Continue to brick sections throughout the front of the head, spraying each section with Thermal Design as you go. In the back, pull hair into a ponytail from the nape to just below the occipital bone. (All other hair will be braided as the front is.)

08 Now, begin to bring the front hair back to form a soft folded shape around the back form and secure with bobby pins. Work both sides into the back, allowing a degree of height to be left in the front shape (the height will depend on your artistic license). Once you are satisfied with the shape, finish with Senscience Silk Finish Firm Hold Spray and a light dusting of Senscience Brilliant Defense Protective Shine Spray.

04 Each section will now need to be heated with a flat iron to press in the braided texture to the hair.

05 When all hair is completed, allow it to cool for a few minutes. Then, with your pintail comb, pick the braids out to allow the wavy movement to flow.

06 Once all the hair is loose, brush hair through. Then, backcomb the front hair into the root area for lift and volume. Continue this through all loose hair, using your Senscience Designer Shaping Spray as your workable spray.

07 With the back ponytail, add a bun ring or a hair ring to allow extra volume and width to the back shape. Then, undoing the ponytail braid, wrap the hair around the form to cover.

You may not always be able to possess the priceless works of art that you adore, but you can certainly admire them from afar. And you can always show your own artistic flair through your hair!

With this multi-layered haircut, we combine graduation and layering in several different ways to define shapes within one strong color. Adding just a hint of pink with our hidden slices gives a modern touch to the hair design. A diverse look with excitement and artistic appeal for those who dare.

cut01 We begin this look by pre-lightening the whole head to a Level 9. Then, taking a diamond section though the top, section this hair out of the way. (Leave enough hair out of the front to create a full fringe.)

02 Diamond shape from the back.

03 Now, through the front/side section and following the natural hair line, determine your length and begin your graduation.

08 Once front and back sections are complete, blow-dry hair smooth including the top diamond shape.

09 Now, lift the top hair that was left in the diamond. Angle your scissors back, determine your disconnected length, and cut your sections, bringing them into the middle. You are now ready to color before you finish your cut.

color01 At the front on one side of your diamond shape, place 3 to 4 back-to-back foils of Formula 1.

02 Allow color to process. (Tip: For softer results of overall color, tone with 2/3 clear and 1/3 pastel mixer i.Luminate, or 2 oz/60 ml 10SA and 3 oz/90ml 10 Volume i.Color). Once hair has processed, shampoo with appropriate Senscience shampoo and conditioner, blow-dry using Senscience Smooth Gelee, and flat iron with Senscience Thermal Design Styling Spray.

04 Complete both sides section to the ear (do not move into the back). Then connect a low fringe into the side graduation.

05 Moving to the back, keeping the hair long, determine a suitable length and cut the hair straight across.

06 Now, lifting out from your determined length, layer the longer back hair through, cross-checking as always to determine a clean shape.

07 View showing cut continuing to top of layer.

back to cut10 Once hair is clean, dry and smooth, complete your disconnected cut using your Freedom cutting method to soften overall shape. Add Senscience finishing products to create the smoothness or texture you desire.
