SEEK 2018 PROGRAM DETAILS Cal U’s Summer Educational Enrichment for Kids (SEEK) is an academic enrichment program for school-aged children entering grades 1 through 8 in the fall of 2018. During this day camp program, students will participate in learning experiences that are entertaining yet academically engaging. The 2018 SEEK program will run during two, week-long sessions: July 9-13, 2018 and July 23-27, 2018. Classes begin at 8:30 a.m. and end at 4 p.m. daily. Participants are supervised by trained SEEK staff, instructors, and counselors during program hours. Children will need to bring a packed lunch daily (refrigeration is not available). A water station is provided and available all day for participants. SEEK personnel are not permitted to administer medication.

MULTI-TOPIC CLASSES Children can participate in up to four classes per session. Half-day participation is also available (for either morning or afternoon classes). To determine class selections listed within this brochure, children are placed in the following groups based on the grade levels they will be entering in the fall:

Grades 1 and 2: pages 3 and 8

Grades 3 to 5: pages 4-5 and 9-10

Grades 6 to 8: pages 6-7 and 11

REGISTRATION Payment can be made by electronic check or credit card (MasterCard, VISA, or Discover). Please complete SEEK registration and payment online: https://www.calu.edu/community/outreach/seek/registration.aspx

FEES AND REFUND POLICY The cost for the full-day program for one week is $135 per child. The half-day program (morning or afternoon participation for one week) is $90 per child. Registration is on a first come, first served basis. Class size is limited, so please register early. You must select a first and second class choice for each child. In the event we cannot accommodate the first class choice for your child, we will attempt to place your child into the second choice class. Once registered, you will receive a confirmation email that lists the classes selected for each child. Withdrawal from the program must be in writing and received at least five working days prior to the start of the program in order to receive a full refund. No refunds will be issued for withdrawals received after July 2 for the session beginning July 9, 2018. No refunds will be issued for withdrawals received after July 16 for the session beginning July 23, 2018.

Straight Outta the Galaxy Want to learn hip-hop moves that are out of this world? This is the class for you! Explore smooth moves and awesome tricks all while listening to cool music. Learn how to make up your own dance steps too. Be sure to bring your energy and creativity to this class!

Moon Mission Learn about the phases of the moon and why the moon is important to Earth. Create moon craters, moon rocks, and moon sand. Find out what it is like to be an astronaut in space and what it would be like to land on the moon. Explore the many, diverse moons of our solar system. 10:15-11:45 AM

Exploring a Galaxy Far, Far Away Explore a galaxy far, far away through participation in arts and crafts, storytelling, writing, word games, and more! Learn how to use the “Force” in this Star Wars-themed class.

A Trip Around the Galaxy Visit the solar system and complete crafts. Make paper/straw rockets, moon rocks, galaxy slime, solar system head bands, and more.

It's a Lego World Play fun games and prepare for out of this world challenges using legos. 12:45-2:15 PM

Space School Musical Express your creativity through song and dance in this performance-based class. Learn fun routines to challenge/improve your balance, memory and coordination. Get ready for your time to shine as you perform SEEK’s Space School Musical at the end of the week for family and friends.

Water World It’s not a science fiction movie, but you will get wet! Enjoy a wide variety of water games. Challenge yourself to get as wet as you can. Release, revive, and have fun.

What's Up? (In Space) Explore the solar system through videos, experiments, and games. 2:30-4:00 PM

Exploring New Worlds: Space Stories Explore space through stories and create your own alien adventure.

Astronomical Art Join us for fun art projects that will include star-gazed sewing and marshmallow constellations. Get inspired and create your own out of this world masterpiece.

UFOs (Unusually Fun Objects) Are there UFOs in your house? Yes, most likely! Join us for awesome activities with UFOs (unusually fun objects). Learn how common, everyday objects can become tons of fun for you and your friends by using just a little imagination and creativity.

Space Camp Challenge Course Do you like obstacle courses and mental challenges? Take part in this class that will push you to the limits! Carry out a series of missions that will test your knowledge of survival skills, reinforce your decision-making, promote teamwork, explore science, and provide outdoor adventure. Earn your astronaut badge by completing this course! Planetary Poets Learn about haikus, limericks, acrostic poems and more through famous poems inspired by the stars and planets. Become a poet and illustrator as you look to the celestial bodies for influence and inspiration. Star Wars Pop Up and Away! Create your own Star Wars-themed pop-up book. Draw up a story board, create fun “pop-up” features, and then assemble your book. Watch as your book “pops” to life! DIY: Digital Interactive Youth Code your way through the world of Scratch. Help the scratch cat play hide and seek, record music, race to the finish, and fly like a Powerpuff girl, all using coding. Learn about the elements of science fiction by reviewing popular kids’ TV shows and movies. Use your imagination and creativity to explore acting and performance. Tap into your adventurous side as you look at the possibility of combing movement and science to explore alternative worlds, extraterrestrial life, and time travel. What does the future look like to you? Dream big! Take Me to Your Leader! Discuss the characteristics and traits of leaders through a fun overview of popular heroes and villains portrayed through popular science fiction books and movies. Explore what it takes to be a good leader and the importance of leadership skills. Gain confidence in yourself as you learn how these skills can help you to become a better student and member of your community.

Imagination-Writing Your Way to a Trip Out of This World Write and illustrate your own book in this far-out class! And, have fun as you work to bring your own Minecraft world to life! Alien Creation Look at aliens in a whole new way. Explore what we think of aliens from movies and books and then work to create your very own! 10:15-11:45 AM

Moonwalk, Robotics and Other Iconic Dance Moves Explore different dance moves in this fun, engaging class. Learn a variety of dance styles and diverse dance routines that will focus on some popular and iconic dance moves, like Michael Jackson’s moonwalk. For those students who may be eager to perform and show off their new skills, share your own routine at the end of the week with family and friends.
