SEDIBENG. - The Democratic Alliance(DA) has called for the suspension of Emfu-leni Local Municipality (ELM)Mayor GretaHlongwane following a recent revelationthat she allegedly owes the municipality inrates and taxes.Hlongwane is always heard telling people

to pay their municipal accounts at communi-ty gatherings, even those that have nothingto do with the payment of municipal ac-counts.Documents revealing Hlongwane’s state

of accounts were sent to Sedibeng Ster follo-wing a national newspaper revelation thatshe owes ELMmore than R20 000 in unpaidrates and taxes.Hlongwane’s spokesperson, Pinky Mof-

okeng denies that the mayor owes the muni-cipality and states that the mayor is not recei-ving special treatment as the mayor is notexempt from municipal accounts.Democratic Allowance (DA) Constituen-

cy Head in Emfuleni and MPL Kingsol Cha-balala says, “We call on Premier DavidMak-hura to suspend the mayor immediately andset a strong example that this type of abuseof power will not be tolerated. This is the kind of abuse that the DA wis-

hes to prevent in its court action to preventthe Emfuleni and Midvaal merger.”

RUST-TER-VAAL. - A strong wind com-pletely destroyed the structure of the Ariseand Shine Bible Church. The incidenthappened on November 26 at about 21:45.The church’s Reverend Thabo Miya saidneighbours were rudely awoken by a loudnoise. The damages, estimated at R90000, include damage to a neighbour’sroof, two geysers and shacks. The stormblew the corrugated iron structure of thechurch apart.Miya, who lives nearby, said he thanks

God for His mercy in that there were nocasualties. Luckily, people were alreadyin their houses when the storm destroyedthe structure on Eiken Street. On the sub-ject of repairs to his neighbours’ houses,

he made a ‘humble appeal’ to ‘good Sa-maritans’ to act on behalf of the congrega-tion. Any kind of donation that will helprepair damages is welcome. The fact that the structure of the church

was blown apart by strong winds with no-one inside might call for the help from So-cial Development. Emfuleni Local Mu-nicipality Health and Social DevelopmentMMC Councillor Sello Pitso said that thisneeds donations from the public or privatesectors. Pitso said, “As the government wedon’t have a budget to assist at that level.Should any injuries or casualties be re-ported, the municipality will be able to as-sist. It’s a pity what happened to thechurch structure. I hope the Reverendspeedily gets help from the community.”

In South Africa while some get lenient sen-tences others get to walk scot free for themurders that they have committed.Justice Minister Michael Masutha is well

within his right to request a full report fromthe National Prosecuting Authority (NPA),detailing the investigation and prosecutionof the Shrien Dewani case and the lack ofguilty verdicts in two other prominent mur-

ders: The case against Oscar Pistorious andthe investigation into the murder of BafanaBafana captain Senzo Meyiwa.Masutha has demanded the report on why

this and other high profile cases have beenlost by state prosecutors after Dewani’s notguilty verdict was announced. This is going too far! Masutha rightfully

wants to reflect on how the system has failedin all these high profile cases. The systemis falling off the rails, piece by piece. The decision to dismiss Shrien Dewani’s

case was a mockery of the justice systemwhich ultimately leaves unanswered questi-ons as to the treatment meted out to suspects

that come from well-to-do backgrounds. It is unfortunate that Dewani has been ac-

quitted because I believe that he knew more. The cases collapsed because of shoddy poli-ce investigation and something needs to bedone before all hardcore criminals end uproaming our streets. In these cases there were apparently so

many lies, mistakes and inconsistencies, thatone simply cannot know where the lies endand where the truth begin.Dewani should have been questioned on

how he got to the Khayelitsha Police Stationso shortly after the murder of his wife; whywas he not injured at all; what lead to the

circumstances that caused Dewani to beco-me so close to the people who confessed tomurdering his wife and left him unscathed.Whywould strange people in a strange coun-try make up a story and even be willing togo to prison for many years in order to impli-cate Dewani in a conspiracy to murder hiswife?Like one writer says, ‘too many criminals

are beating the judicial process and escapingincarceration.’ I differ not with the state-ment. Something needs to be done and donesoon otherwise South Africa is just short ofgoing...yes, to the dogs.Lerato…

South Africa is going to the dogs!

SEDIBENG. The pursuit of the develop-ment of a Freight and Logistics hub in theVaal Region took a huge step forwardwhena high level delegation of government andbusiness met in Three Rivers , Vereeniginglast week. Led by the executive mayor ofthe Sedibeng District and the MEC for Ro-ads and Transport in the Gauteng Province, captains of industry, academics and mem-bers of the Mayors Investment Council ex-changed views on the feasibility and impactof a Freight and Logistics hub in the region.Sedibeng’s Local Municipalities, Emfule-ni, Midvaal and Lesedi were also in atten-dance to add to the discussions. After frank exchanges on the subject, the

meeting resolved to reconvene in aworkingsession in January 2015 to examine all the

research papers and available data whichwould contribute to a fully-fledged feasibi-lity study. The working session, which will be con-

vened under the auspices of Sedibeng Dis-trict Municipality and the Provincial De-partment of Roads andTransport, will workwith the business sector in developing a fe-asibility study. Strong arguments have beenmade for the Gauteng Province to advancethe timeline for Freight and Logistics hubin the Vaal Region. If the feasibility studyconfirms the need, support of industry andsustainability, the Gauteng Provincial Go-vernment will review its time frames thatcould see the development of a Freight andLogistics hub sooner rather than later in theVaal Region.

VANDERBIJLAPRK.- Air Products SouthAfrica and Sasol Chemical Industries signeda landmark agreement whichwill see Air Pro-ducts purchase the Sasolburg A2100 air sepa-ration unit (ASU), and simultaneously com-mence with a new long-term supply agree-ment.The agreement brings the ownership of this

facility ‘full circle’: it was originally designedand constructed by Air Products in 1997, andhas to date been operated and maintained byAir Products for Sasol on a contract basis.Going forward, Air Products will continue

to generate oxygen and nitrogen for the Sasol-burg chemical complex. However, the com-pany will be able to extract further value forboth parties via the integration of the plantinto its wider supply chain. This will include the generation and sale

of by-products such as liquid nitrogen and li-quid argon, according toMike Hellyar, mana-ging director of Air Products South Africa.“Our purchase of the A2100 from Sasol

will have numerous benefits for both parties, and for other key customers. The A2100 islinked via pipeline to our flagship productionfacility at Vanderbijlpark - including our newstate-of-the-art ‘G-Plant’ - which will alsosupply a significant portion of Sasol’s indus-trial gas requirements.“Changing from contract operator to owner

of the plant creates synergies which will pro-vide a better balance of supply-and-demandof gaseous products. These synergies will notonly provide opportunities to improve energyefficiency, but also create a solid platformfrom which Air Products can continue to en-sure optimal customer service levels andlong-term security of supply to the merchantindustrial gas market,” says Hellyar. In line with the agreement, Sasol Chemi-

cals Industries will effectively outsource itsindustrial gas production at the Sasolburg si-te, while ensuring the continuation of thelong-term supply relationship it has enjoyedwith Air Products South Africa for many ye-ars. “This transaction supports our approachof outsourcing critical activities, which are

not our core competency, to specialist techno-logy and service providers such as Air Pro-ducts South Africa,” says Bernard Klingen-berg, Sasol Executive vice president: Sout-hern Africa Operations.“This agreement and the commencement

of the long-term supply contract with Air Pro-ducts is further testimony to our confidencein their supply chain and customer service ca-pacity and expertise,” Klingenberg adds.Throughout the purchase agreement pro-

cess, Air Products has ensured compliancewith national competition legislation, obtai-ning the official approval from the Competiti-on Commission in August this year.“Gaining approval from the Commission

was a major milestone, and we are very plea-sed to have been given the opportunity to le-verage our existing network to create furthervalue within our long-term gas supply agree-ment with Sasol. As the leading producer of industrial gas

in South Africa, and as a supplier of air sepa-ration technology and services, our relations-hip with Sasol goes back a long way,” Hellyarremarks. In June 2014, Air Products launchedits state-of-the-art R800 million ASU‘G-Plant’, which was the result of its ongoingmutually-beneficial relationship with Sasol. The new facility will supply Sasol’s expansi-on programme in Sasolburg with pipe-linedgaseous oxygen and nitrogen. With a produc-tion capacity of over 2 500 tonnes of liquidand gaseous product per day, ‘G-Plant’ hasfurther cemented Air Products’ reputation forensuring service delivery and continuity ofsupply to its customers.“We look forward to leveraging the syner-

gies of both the A 2100 and ‘G-Plant’, whichwill not only create benefits for ourselves andSasol, but for other key customers in the mer-chant gas market. This transaction representsthe consolidation of our existing supply infra-structure, thereby supporting our overar-ching, long-term capital investment strategyto ensure optimal customer service levels andsecurity of industrial gas supply,” Hellyarconcludes.

I wascalled names but I dealt with that. Lifeis unpredictable so livingwithHIV is nota death sentence and many people canattest,” says Setseli.

Setseli is a counsellor at Joadio Clinic whe-re he speaks to people about knowing theirstatus and the importance of knowing it. HIVCounsellor Fiona Ntshingila, also disclosed

but a wake-up call to take care of yourself.“We are still testing people who are positive

in 2014. Something is wrong with us.By nowwe know all the logistics of con-tracting HIV. Parents and children: thisis a moment we try to learn more aboutthis disease and stop spreading it,” saidNtshingila as she urged young peopleto look after themselves.

The problem with Sedibeng development coa-ches is that they don’t want to acknowledgewhen their colleagues supersede them. No,they will look for excuses every time they getbeaten.

Some coaches must just accept that footballhas changed and so they also need to change.Football is no longer as it was ten or 20 yearsago.

Those coaches you underestimate have also‘upped’ their game and have empowered them-selves to become better coaches. Some deve-

lopment coaches do everything in their powerto empower themselves to become better coa-ches.

Coaches, why can’t you compliment yourcolleague after they beat your team rather thanlook for excuses after the game? There are cer-tain aspects that a development coach mustconsider. Point in case, make introspection onhow your team trains and plays before you ac-cuse referees of ‘helping’ the other team.

Some development teams in this region areexposed to international play and competeagainst the best development teams in thiscountry.

It doesn’t mean if you have beaten your col-league many times in the past that you will stillbe able to.

This is what I always tell development coa-

ches; “Whether you win or lose, you will stillbe a soccer player. Winners don’t learn much.Losers learn. The more you lose, the more youlearn, the more you learn, the stronger you be-come. And the day will come that you will win.And from that day on, you will always win.”

This is the reality of football. If you beatyour opponents week-in-and-week-out, it doesnot necessarily mean that they are not impro-ving with every game.

Development coaches give credit where itis due! Learn to compliment your fellow coachwhen he is better than you or when his teamis better than yours.

The problem with most of coaches is thatthey are used to success and when they fail theydon’t want to accept it. Instead of going to thetraining ground they go to the drawing board.

Drawing boards are not for coaches but for ad-ministrators.

I find it very strange when coaches blamereferees if their teams loses despite the fact thatthey don’t do justice when it comes to coa-ching. It is lack of sportsmanship to blame refe-rees when you lose the game.Shooting From The Hip’smessage to all the

development coaches in this region is - don’tcheat your players, give them proper trainingphysically and mentally to use them as a wea-pons come match day. If our boys are not men-tally and psychologically ready for the game- they will blame everything on referees whenthey can’t play.

Coaches, the hard work starts at the trainingground not on the day of the match. LEARNand LIVE!

EVATON. - With the MCS Sedibeng Cupover, the focus shifts to the Pooe Festive Soc-cer Tournament scheduled to kick off thisThursday. This was revealed to Sedibeng Ster Sport

by tournament coordinator Mondli Nkosi. The tournament is scheduled to take place

at the Behaman Rover FC hard-surface soc-cer grounds in Evaton.According to Nkosi, the tournament will

start this Thursday with the u/13s, u/15s,u/17s and u/19s.For the first time in the history of the tour-

nament their u/19 division will be introdu-ced.

Nkosi believes there is a serious need forthis category seeing that when these boysturn 18 or 19 they are lost to football. The decision to introduce the u/19 catego-

ry was welcomed by many teams who belie-ve this will help raise the standard of footballin this region.Nkosi says it makes sense to have this age

category, taking into consideration that aPromotion League is played by the playerswho are 19-years-old and under.“We saw it fitting to add this category be-

cause in the past we lost many players, espe-cially those who are 18 and 19 years old.We want to accommodate everyone in thistournament because it is all about develop-ment.Remember the priority of the tournament

is development and giving these youngstersa platformfrom which to showcase theirGod-given talent.

“We don’t want to see them end up invol-ved in crime or misconduct,” says Nkosi.Nkosi says this is the only tournament that

brings the Sedibeng community together forthe better part of the festive season especial-ly with the PSL teams on Christmas breaks. The tournament attracts many soccer specta-tors all over the Gauteng province and thisyear will not be an exception.
