It’s important to get all the facts at the moment but it can be very draining on your wellbeing so to combat that this newsletter is a good news newsletter! I would like to start by saying a BIG THANK YOU to all of our staff. It has been amazing to see staff pull together during this tricky, unpredictable time. The school has been really calm and that is due to the staff modelling this. Thank you to all the parents and carers who have sent us good wishes and thanks for just being here. We appreciate that many parents and carers have made the hard decision to educate their child or children at home. This isn’t easy at all and we are trying hard to support you with this journey through Dojo ideas and learning packs. Thank you to the students for doing your best when life is not as it was a few weeks ago! There have been students at home sending us work, photos and comments. We love seeing all you are doing at home as we miss you terribly. To the students at school still we are glad you are here and thank you for the never ending supply of laughter and fun. Term 2 Learning In week 11 staff will be planning what Term 2 learning will look like for those who choose to stay at home for this term. Learning at home is difficult when parents and carers are potentially trying to run a house, work from home and educate a few children. Somebody asked me what I would do if it was me and I suggested project work that is driven by the child’s interests. For example, my son loves to skateboard and is forever complaining that Cliff Ave Skate park doesn’t have a bowl like Seaford skate park. His project could be designing a bowl at the skate park, measuring it out, investigating other skate parks online, finding out what makes a good bowl, writing letters to our local MP etc. Boys need it to be meaningful and purposeful or they won’t engage. Letters regarding your Term 2 option will go out once programs and planning has been finalised by staff in week 11. Please recognise that this is new to us too but we will do our best to ensure your child’s learning journey continues regardless of what you decide. Holiday ideas Rather than spending time thinking about what you’re missing think about what you can still do. https://www.goodnewsnetwork.org/category/new s/kids/ this is a great link to look at positive events around the world. Get creative! This is the time to make something together. From painting to junk modelling to sewing. Stock up on supplies or recycle. Invest in new board games or create new ones from existing games. Change the rules or make new ones. Cubby building never gets old. You could set up a competition with friends and send each other pictures of your creations. Which cubby stays up the longest? Learn new skills. This could be an ideal chance to learn how to knit together or how to make films together. Bake off! Face time a friend and see who makes the best cookies or cake in a set time. Put on a play or show and perform it for family members. You could record it for sharing later on or go live! Whatever you do, share it with people. At this time staying connected is vital. I would love to see what you do so feel free to Dojo me your wonders!! Nikki G Message from Steve Brooks - PCW I remember running home from school and watching our favourite TV show, it was a while ago and the TV was black and white and mum or dad were the only ones who could change the channels. It started with these words. Faster than a speeding bullet, more powerful than a locomotive able to leap tall buildings in a single bound and could bend steel in his bare hands. It was Superman. He could fly, had x ray vision, he was pretty well invincible. He wore a costume, I thought it was a bit weird, He had a cape, a big S on his jumper but he had his jocks on the outside of his pants and long boots. He was the first super hero I could remember. I am not really a super hero follower like a lot of our children are, but over the last few weeks I find I am surrounded by super heroes. Our school leadership, the teachers, and all our ancillary staff are super heroes. I see other super heroes

working in our health care system, the police and our politicians and all the other agencies that are working hard to keep us safe and well and feel secure. I have also been surrounded by junior super heroes, who are our students, continuing their education journey either at school or at home. At the moment I believe every home has super heroes in residence, be it mum or dad or our carers. I know we are in uncharted waters at the moment but with so many super heroes around I am sure we will be OK. I can't fly, or bend steel with my bare hands, and there is no way I am wearing my jocks on the outside but I do care for all of us. If I can assist you in any way please let me or the school know and I will do my best to help. Enjoy the holidays time, stay safe and I look forward to seeing you next term. Blessings Steve Brooks P.C.W.

Good News Learning Stories

Diamond Class – Mrs Haddy Upper Primary Special Class

We have been learning about Alexander Bell. We learnt that

he invented the telephone. We made our own cup phone and

were amazed that when the string was tight we could hear the

voice. We looked at different photos of phones and discussed

whether they were old phones or new.

National Day Against Violence & Bullying

Hi all, the SRC and I were very proud, to see so many of our students proudly wearing pink in support of National Day Against Bullying and Violence. It was the 10th year anniversary of celebrating this day in Australia, though the notion of wearing pink to stand up and support a mate is not originally an Australian one. It originated in Canada when a boy wore pink and was bullied for it, so one of his mates wore pink the next day in support of his friend. The message behind the day is to Stand Up and Speak Out against bullying and this was alive and well on the day. Students worked on class pages to go into a school book that will be accessible through the Library. They were also encouraged to go onto the Bullying No Way website and discuss what speaking out means to them. Thank you to families who were able to support their child to come in pink and to those who speak openly at home with their child/children about what it means to stand up and speak out! Kind regards, Michelle.

From Ms Laxton and Bec’s Year 3/4 class. Daily we write things that we are grateful for in our gratitude journals. We have been discussing that during these times even though they are difficult we have so much to be grateful for. Here is a display of the things we are grateful for today

Early Years Swimming Last week the Year 1 and 2 classes went swimming at Noarlunga Leisure Centre on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. Students were put into groups based on their skill levels and participated in the centre’s swimming and water safety program, focusing on experiential and activity-based learning. The curriculum covers five areas of learning that are combined and presented as activities to enhance student development. Key learning areas include:

The strokes

Balance, movement and recovery

Breath control, submersion and readiness

Water safety

Entries and exits

Upon returning to school, students filled in swimming booklets, detailing their weekly activities in the pool and reflecting on what they’d learnt and experienced.

Our Good Deed – Ms Bracken’s class

We designed medals today for the groups of people who have been helping to keep our community safe. We brainstormed ideas, discussed how our parents etc are helping and how we are helping. Students then chose who they wanted to make a medal for and designed it themselves.

Ms Fode’s class Our class has been enjoying looking after the garden and watching the pumpkins turn orange
