You may be aware that many schools are requesting that parents drop their children at the school gates and do not enter school grounds. Please be considerate of this, if this continues we will request that children are dropped off at the gate next week. Parents/caregivers should not be presenting at the front office. If you need to speak to someone please contact us via phone, email or text message and we will get back to you. If you need to collect your child before the end of the school day please call ahead to the front office so that we can have your child ready and waiting for you. Communication During the COVID-19 situation, on-line communication has become the new norm in many instances. It has been wonderful to see so many families signing up for the School Star App and Class Dojo. These platforms offer quick and easy ways to communicate.

A big thank you to all those families who have sent positive messages to staff, acknowledging and thanking them for the complex work they undertake daily at school. It has also been wonderful to see photos and work samples shared by those families whose children are learning at home.

The downside to this increase in on-line communication is that we get conditioned to expect an instant response. All staff at Moana Primary School endeavour to respond to any messages in a timely manner. They are not usually able to respond to messages through the day as they are actively teaching the children in their class, please contact the front office on 8386 1144 if you have any urgent questions.

Staff wellbeing is extremely important to me as site leader and I actively encourage a healthy work/life balance. I am encouraging all staff to turn off their class dojo notifications between 5 pm and 8 am and respond to any messages received during this time within the next 24 hours. Thank you for supporting your child’s teacher.

Near Miss and Road Safety A near miss was reported by the staff member on crossing duty on Wednesday morning. Two young children, who were not accompanied by an adult, were crossing the road at the corner of Carol Place and Robertson Road.

Luckily the car driver was travelling at a safe speed enabling them to stop and avoid hitting the children. Could all families please talk to their children about using the school crossing to cross the road safely? It would also be appreciated if all adults could model safe crossing for children by using the crossing and avoiding this dangerous corner.

Teachers will also remind children about using the crossing for safety. Thank you for your consideration and cooperation in helping to keep all of our children safe.

Term 1 Sports Update In week 5, we had 16 students from years 4-7 attend the Marion Outdoor Pool for the combined Onkaparinga North and South Districts SAPSASA swimming carnival. Our team achieved second position for Division one in the Onkaparinga South District. The district is divided into 2 divisions based on the total number of year 4-7 enrolments.

The purpose of the day was for students to compete for selection in the Metro State Championships which have been postponed to a later time this year. Emma, Abbey, Kearni and Bailey were selected in the Onkaparinga South District team as a result of their performances.

We have selected our next district carnival team who will compete at the Athletics Carnival at Tatachilla Lutheran College when it is re-scheduled. All classes practiced the events in PE lessons and we then conducted trails for our team selection during Recess and Lunch breaks. We can only take one boy and girl of each age for each event. This event has also been postponed to a later date and will also act as a selection day for a district team to compete at the metro –championship day in September.

Jed and Charley competed for the Onkaparinga South

Cricket team in the state championships and Franklin

competed in the tennis team. They all had a great

week.

Reading Initiative

8:45 Mondays and Fridays are the best! This is the time when students

come to the library to celebrate their reading milestones through the

reading initiative we started last year.

The pride students show and the smiles on their faces as they tell me

how many nights reading they have completed warms my heart. I

sincerely thank each and every individual (mums, dads, grandmas,

grandads, aunties, uncles, cousins, siblings, carers) for taking the time to

read daily with their student.

If a student reads for just 20 minutes a day at home, they will be

exposed to 1.8 million words per year and have read for 851 hours when

they reach Year 6.

Assemblies

Our assemblies are currently on hold until further notice.
