Attended by community and government dignitaries, corporate executives and business owners, three types of awards are presented during this dinner. The Leadership Excellence Award is presented to an outstanding individual who has advanced diversity eorts within the Southern California community and beyond. ‘The Power of Relationships’ Reverse Trade Fair
Suppliers from a variety of industries exhibit products and services while representatives from major corporations and advocacy organizations visit booths. This event connects major corporations with suppliers doing business in Southern California. Attendance: 200.
MBE 2 MBE Open House
MBE 2 MBE Open House events are specically designed to provide an environment for MBEs to network and get to know each other, as well as meet select corporate members also invited to attend. Logistically, our objective is to hold these events in dierent geographic areas in our region to better reach SCMSDC’s far-ung base of certied MBEs. Philosophically, our goal is to build a greater sense of community among our MBEs and to even create opportunities for them to do business with and learn from each other. Bi-monthly, location varies.
MBE Orientation
Two hour monthly meeting for MBEs already certied, in the process of becoming certied, or interested in becoming certied. Program includes learning about SCMSDC upcoming events and opportunities, leveraging MBE certication to reach business goals, determining if your company is “corporate ready”, meeting council sta, members of the MBEIC and select Corporate members. Last Thursday of each month, 2-4 pm at the SCMSDC Headquarters.
Communication Skills LIVE!
Interactive program where entrepreneurs can learn tips and techniques to improve communication skills. Attendees present session specic speeches which are video-recorded onsite. Presentations are played back for the group so that communication experts can immediately provide useful feedback. Attendees receive video footage of their presenta-tion and feedback after each session.
30 Second MBE: Elevator Pitch
A 30-second pitch will be videotaped using professional lighting and microphones against a green screen. The completed video is sent to the participant and select videos are distributed to corporate representatives and MBEs monthly. Many MBEs attach their pitch to their email signature, websites, and other social media tools.
Toastmasters International
This learn-by-doing workshop helps participants (both seasoned and novices) hone their speaking and leadership skills in a friendly and non-threatening atmosphere. SCMSDC’s version of the Toastmaster’s club is unique as it serves the interest of business owners and their employees by focusing on entrepreneurship, networking and business development.
Targeted Matchmaking
This matchmaking opportunity can be held as an intimate event, mini reverse trade/exhibit fair or one-on-one interview session. Targeted matchmaking gives the corporation an opportunity to meet with suppliers who can fulll the corporation’s specic procurement needs.
In-Kind Services
Sponsorships or donations of in-kind services help support council events and activities. These services include, but are not limited to, printing, photography, videography, centerpieces and décor, giveaway/rae items (airline or theme park tickets, etc.)
