The Silver Tree Steiner School began in 1997 with a Playgroup, which through a dedicated group, of parents, teachers and volunteers over the years has developed into the wonderful school and community we have today of over 100 students. In 2016 The Silver Tree Steiner School offered Playgroup, Kindergarten and Primary classes for children from 2 – 12 years old. The school is set in beautiful rural grounds in the Perth Hills approximately 36kms from Perth CBD.

MOTTO Educating the Head, Heart and Hands of your Children MISSION STATEMENT To provide pre-school and primary education based on the pedagogy and indications given by Rudolf Steiner. CORE VALUES STATEMENT We believe that: Every individual human being is a spiritual person on a journey of development in the world and that the aim of education is to assist in this process of development. The teacher needs to be free to respond to the needs of the student. Each school likewise needs to be free and independent, in order to properly educate young people to be free and independent. The pedagogy of the Rudolf Steiner Curriculum is holistic and supportive of the art of teaching. It is not exclusive, allowing compatible methods to be assimilated into the programme. Teaching is an art.

Student attendance at school

An average of 95% of students attended school each day in 2016. Student attendances are recorded on class roles for the week and collected by Friday afternoon. All absences are recorded electronically daily, including the submission of an absentee note. If an absentee note is not included the system will automatically issue a reminder letter which is sent home with the child. If a child is absent for a period, the family will be contacted by the Class Teacher for clarification of the extended absence and also to ascertain what school work can be appropriately passed on to the child. If a child in primary school has been absent without reasonable excuse for an extended period and discussions with the parent prove unfruitful, the matter will, as a last resort, be placed in the hands of the inspectorate.

NAPLAN information

As part of the National Assessment Program–Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN), national tests are conducted in May each year for students in years 3 and 5 in Primary schools. All eligible children at Silver Tree were offered the opportunity to sit the NAPLAN tests. Some parents choose for their children not to sit the tests. PARENT SATISFACTION

The main role of a Steiner school is to support parents as the primary educators of their children. Parents play an extremely important role in the life of the school and contribute in many positive ways to the education of their children at Silver Tree Steiner School. In 2016 the

parents and guardians had the opportunity to submit a parent survey online, the data is presented at the end of this report.

STUDENT SATISFACTION The students at Silver Tree have access to a wide range of excellent and up to date facilities. The school is well-resourced and these resources are constantly upgraded to cater for the needs of the children. There are numerous cultural and festive opportunities afforded to the children and they are encouraged to actively participate in these. The staff are extremely supportive of and encourage the children to achieve their potential through various Educational programs. Specialist teaching programs are offered in Craft, Physical Education, Music and German. Administered informally in discussions with teachers in class. With topics such as School Play environment, Lesson Structure and Student Well being discussed.

Post‐school destinations

The majority of primary school graduates go on to Perth Waldorf School, which has Western Australia's only Steiner high school. Two students enrolled at the Mundaring Christian College. STAFF SATISFACTION Staff participated in an on-line survey in 2016. The first question in the survey; The Environment at Silver Tree Steiner School is Friendly and caring received 95% approval rating. The second question; I am happy coming to work at Silver Tree Steiner School received a 100% approval rating. The rest of the data is attached to the end of this report. Staff participate in collaborative decision making processes relating to education and their contributions are valued and respected by the Leadership Team. They regularly attend Professional Development which ensures that they are cognisant of contemporary teaching pedagogy. They are provided with the resources necessary to maintain a challenging learning environment for the children.
