SETTING UP YOUR SCHOOL GARDEN

CERES has a holistic approach to garden design which incorporates Permaculture principles and methods.

This catalogue has been designed to provide schools with information about garden beds, compost systems and

chook sheds, and a service for designing and installing school gardens.

To set up a productive, sustainable and engaging school garden, CERES provides a site consultation, garden design

service, and installation of any of the products included in this catalogue, including custom designs.

A site consultation is required as this provides details about your school site including garden requirements and

accurate information to install the garden beds. Generally, a site consultation will take between 1.5 – 2hours.

Site Consultation

Client Brief: Considerations include your expectations and goals, budget, and existing resources

Site Assessment: Considerations include topography, aspect, water source, location, and accessibility. A site

assessment helps to inform any constraints that may affect your desired outcome

Site Report: Recommendations and garden plan

The cost of a Site Consultation is $150 per hour ex GST (plus travel)

Quotation

From the site consultation, we will provide an accurate quotation for the installation of your selected garden beds,

including detail for plant selection, irrigation, and soil.

Custom Garden Design (optional)

The catalogue includes an option for custom garden designs to suit you. We can work from your own pre-existing

design or, alternatively, CERES can develop a concept sketch and final design to suit your school needs. Design work

from concept to final design is charged at $50 per hour.

Involving students in Garden Design

We offer opportunities for students and teachers to be involved in the design and construction process.

CERES Incursion - Hands on Gardening. Students will participate in hands-on activities and investigate how food is produced in managed environments. Students will focus on ecology, soil quality, natural pest control, crop rotation and plant selection for their own school garden.

CERES Excursions – Earth Discovery.Visit CERES Community Environment Park. Students will learn about

different types of gardens, food production, compost systems and energy efficiency which can influence the

design of their own school garden.
