An experiment conducted in the1980s explored the feasibility ofapplying the quality management methods developed in industrialcompanies to effectively manage quality in healthcare.The resultsled to the creation of the Institute for Healthcare Improvement.Three years ago the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation created anew initiative, “Pursuing Perfection—Raising the Bar in HealthcareQuality Performance.” Several leading healthcare organizationsaround the world have been funded to create “perfect processes.”In this keynote talk, Dr. Godfrey will explore the rapid evolution ofquality management in healthcare and the lessons learned.

aortic aneurysms requires understanding the compatibility of flexi-ble-textile-graft and rigid-stent material. Dr. Greenberg will showhow materials influence clinical outcomes. New strategies areneeded to provide durable devices for a wider patient population.
