needed more help from the defense. The Pirates finished the season 8-16 overall.

“Corey pitched great,” Pirates coach Pat Fortunato said. “We made a couple of mistakes in the field which led to runs, and we started swinging the bat way too late.”

Pasco’s two runs came in dramatic fashion in the final inning when a River Ridge reliever walked two Pirates after

inheriting a bases-loaded jam.But that’s as close as they got because

of an over-the-shoulder, do-or-die catch by the Knight centerfielder to end Pasco’s season.

What’s Up At The Symphony?Musicians of the Dade City Symphony

went out with a bang for their last performance of the season. The performance was titled ‘What’s Up at the Symphony?’ after the classical cartoon medley, arranged by Jerry Brubaker, which closed out the local symphony’s show on Saturday evening.

Doors to the Pasco Middle School auditorium opened at 6:30 last weekend for the 7 p.m. performance, which was scheduled in two acts each made up of about five songs. Genres are always varied in the symphony’s programs in order to appeal to all ages.

Close to 40 musicians make up the symphony, and they are always open to new additions, especially in the string section. If you or anyone you know is an advanced musician, contact the symphony at [email protected] for information.

Pasco County Shows Community Pride With CleanupPasco County residents came out in

droves to take part in the Great American Cleanup on March 11.

Hundreds of volunteers helped pick up trash throughout Pasco County in various locations such as Crystal Springs Preserve, Lacoochee, Dade City, Hudson, New Port Richey, Werner-Boyce Salt Springs Park in Port Richey and Anclote Gulf Park in Holiday.

Many groups walked around picking up trash and some volunteers used boats.

This year, 516 volunteers picked up 28.13 tons of trash or 56,260 pounds of litter. Volunteers also picked up tires, car parts and mattresses.

“I helped with the cleanups in some environmentally-sensitive areas,” said Kristen King, Keep Pasco Beautiful Coordinator. “It was nice to see volunteers pulling out boxes of tile and other remodeling supplies that people had dumped in the mangroves. And it was amazing and encouraging to see the children who were volunteering care so much about our world and the effect littering has on our environment.”

The City of Dade City collected 11.42 tons of garbage for this year’s Great American Cleanup on May 11. Around 50 volunteers came together to collect trash and place in five dumpsters which were scattered throughout town.

The spring cleanup is a nationwide event, which cities in Pasco have been participating in for decades. Photos Provided
