They will join players from Wesley Chapel, Cypress Creek, Wiregrass Ranch and Land O’ Lakes. Zephyrhills’ Nick Carroll will serve as head coach of the East squad, which holds a 3-1 series lead over the West. Pasco High’s representatives are Darrion Robinson, Desmin Green, Ivory Lopey, Rubin Pickett, Jordan McLaughlin, Cody Rand and Juan Herrera. The Warriors on the rosters are Jose Martinez, Cole Johnson, Tyler Davis, Malik Jones, Nick Whittington and Myles Francois. Carroll will have four Bulldog players on the squad with Demetris Wright, Zion Williams, A.J. Mathis, Bobby Reidenbach. Carroll and the East squad opened practice Monday at Wesley Chapel with 30 players. Pasco head coach Jason Stokes will be at a college recruiting fair and will have one of his assistant coaches representing the Pirates’ staff. “High school football was over two 1/2 months ago in Pasco County. Theses kids could have been done. They get this one more experience. For most, they won’t go play at

Hillcrest Dance Reaps Food For Local Foodbank

On Nov. 23, a Food Pantry Dance was held in the Clubhouse at Hillcrest RV Resort. The six hosts, Cyril and Heather Penton, Bill and Alana Penton and Allen and Debbie Warren, advertised the dance price as $5 per person or the equivalent in non-perishable food. As a result, lots of food arrived with the dancers and was collected and boxed at the dance. Then on Nov. 25, all of the collected funds were taken to a local grocery store to purchase additional food for the Neighborhood Care Center in Zephyrhills. In all, they donated over $500 worth of food.

Everyone had a wonderful evening dancing to the great music provided by Pure Country Gold. Some residents even

walked away with a small gift provided by purchase of raffle tickets and a 50/50 drawing.

The dance floor was loaded and so was the food pantry thanks to generous donations. Submitted by Carolyn Ledford Hillcrest RV Resort

On Nov. 21, another new enjoyable activity started at Grand Horizons thanks to Ray France It was a walking program called “Walking Away the Pounds” and consisted of the women stepping like in a march. It lasted only half an hour, but it really kept us on our toes. When we reached a half mile a voice came on the video that let us know we’d reached the mark and you could hear a “whoop” from the women upon completing this accomplishment. It then proceeded to record what we were doing and when we reached the mile mark, everyone sent up another cheer. It is a great class and I think everyone enjoyed it. I know I sure did!

Nov. 23 found 43 friends and residents enjoying a surprise party for Laurie and Tom Carter. This was

started by Betty Hatch, who did the groundwork. As Betty talked to some of their friends, word got around to many others, so many people showed up to wish them congratulations. The party was just wonderful, and a beautiful bouquet of flowers was presented to the couple who also had corsages pinned on them. It was held at the Golden Corral and we had a private room that was decorated by some of Laurie and Tom’s friends. One speech after another was made by the anniversary couple, plus some others, and pictures were taken. When each person sat at their table, a cup filled with candy, mints, and nuts were placed at each place setting. Of course, every food imaginable was on the buffet. The entire afternoon was one to remember and, to make it even better, we think that it was a complete surprise to Tom and Laurie! Happy 50th to both of you from all your friends at Grand Horizons.

Pictured here is (most of) the gang who came to celebrate our friends Laurie and Tom.

We made sure that the private dining room was decked out to the nines for our guests of honor.

The couple of the hour, Laurie and Tom Carter, were completely surprised by their celebration.

Summertime is usually very quiet for the residents in Ramblewood Village, but this summer was different. A lot of homes changed hands, both new homes and used homes. We welcome these new people and look forward to them joining our activities. We also encourage them

to express new ideas. It is a pleasure to get to know people from different

parts of the United States and Canada. Annie Fischetti has visited each home, giving them information about our park and it’s HOA. Each new resident received a list of our residents and a sample newsletter and a calendar.

Residents were also introduced to our Facebook page and event calendar and were given the password for our park website. We have a box in the clubhouse for the payment of any fees, questions or suggestions. Folks can just pick up a form, fill it out and drop it in the box (mark “X” for a receipt if you want a reply). Bill Hyland monitors the box daily and leaves the responses for you on the board in the clubhouse. We hope they enjoy living

in our park. Now that Thanksgiving dinner in the clubhouse has

passed, upcoming activities include a Parkside yard sale in the clubhouse and at individual houses, Christmas yard decoration contest and monthly dances. Our next dance will be on Dec. 14.

Pat, Janice, Roger, Diana and Dona rest after a group dance.

Brian and Dave were the disc jockeys for our November dance. Suzanne and Chris enjoyed the music and dance.

Holiday Celebrations At Majestic Oaks

Residents were treated with a variety of music from Majestic Oaks musicians and invited performers from other parks. Since this was the first jam session of the season, the attendance was light, but will grow with returning snowbirds. There were two drawings from Share the Wealth

Thanksgiving dinner was held at the clubhouse with 120 people eager to fill their plates with turkey and ham provided by Sun Communities and cooked in 12 Roasters. Bill Hall was the master

organizer with a dozen helpers, and everyone left happy and satisfied. Prior to the eating, tables were decorated with hopes of winning the “Best Decorated” table. The winners received a free lunch at our weekly Burgers and Dogs luncheon. There were many beautifully decorated tables, so judging was a hard job.

A number of volunteers gathered at the clubhouse to decorate for Christmas. There were four trees, a mantle and fireplace to be decorated. The highlight was the Resident Tree standing stately on the stage and decorated with ornaments provided and signed by the residents.

The volunteers were given homemade turkey noodle and turkey vegetable soups created by Annie Yuker. Also, volunteers had their choice of crackers, rolls and butter, and turkey sliders, so no one went away hungry. There was even enough for some to take home a container of soup. This is always a great was to usher in the Christmas season.

Annie Yuker and Diana Whitman cooked up a storm for our decorating day.

Denise Drown sang a lovely Christmas song to get us in the spirit.

This year’s Resident Tree was one of our grandest yet.

Jam performers Doug and Una perform with a harmonica back up.

Bernie Deland played a rousing polka medley.

Giving Thanks At Valleydale ROOur Welcome Home dance was held

on Nov. 23 and 75 revelers danced the night away. Music was provided by Barry Oliver, who was both a little bit country and a little bit rock and roll. Our hosts were Betty Fitzgerald and Winston Alward who always put on a great time.

Our Thanksgiving dinner, celebrated at the clubhouse, was a huge success. Hosts Charlie and Rose Henry put together a fantastic meal, and lots of helping hands made the work go fast. 137 hungry pilgrims arrived at noon to greet friends and visit for a while. Before we ate, we said a prayer of thanks for all that we have and for those who are not as fortunate as

we are. Dinner started at l p.m. and everyone enjoyed all the delicious food and desserts that were served. After all was finished and cleaned up, we went back to our homes for a rest. It was lots of work eating all that food!

At 6 p.m., 64 residents returned to the clubhouse for some delicious hot turkey sandwiches and desserts. Now we have to start doing some outdoor activities to keep off the pounds, with all the goodies that come with the Christmas Season.

Till next time.Jim Switzer dancing the night away.

Saint Leo Announces Annual Christmas Concert

Saint Leo University will be hosting four performances of its annual, family-friendly musical program, “A Saint Leo Christmas,” at 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. on both Dec. 3 and Dec. 4. The concert will take place in the Black Box Theatre, which is located in Benedictine Hall, the long, three-story building at the west end of the campus at 33701 S.R. 52.

While people are arriving, faculty musicians will already be in place inside the Black Box Theatre, performing a series of Christmas carols on the piano until the start of the actual concert, which begins with an exuberant opening number involving all the Saint Leo musicians. An hour and 15 minutes of music will follow featuring a mix of traditional carols and contemporary popular selections.

Many new flourishes have been added this year to make the event even more festive for guests. As visitors walk to Benedictine Hall from their vehicles, they will see 12 Christmas trees lining the walkway that were decorated as part of a campus-wide contest to benefit charities.

“We really want families and guests to enjoy every minute of the event, feel a sense of connection to the music and community, and know that Saint Leo wants to be part of their holiday tradition,” said Chantelle MacPhee, chair

of Language Studies and the Arts.Indoors, the lobby decorations will include an “Angel

Tree” organized by the Department of Philosophy, Religion, and Theology to benefit clients of Catholic Charities locally. Anyone interested in contributing to the angel program can contact Dr. Randall Woodard at [email protected] prior to the event. He will relay to interested donors gift-giving suggestions for clients--each paper angel-ornament is numbered and lists

the needs of an individual, but unnamed client. That way, donors can shop for gifts before the concert and bring the presents and the angel-ornament number along when they come to the concert.

Guests will be encouraged to linger after the performance for cider, cookies, and hot chocolate, and to provide feedback or make suggestions for future performances on Christmas cards that will be supplied. Adults who wish may purchase ornaments handmade in the university’s pottery studio--and ready for personalized decoration--in support of the music program. Children will be provided with smaller handmade ornaments free, while supplies last. Concertgoers may also make free will donations if they prefer.

Additionally, faculty will be present to speak to community residents possibly interested in pursuing private, affordable instruction at the campus in the Spring 2020 Semester. Lessons will be offered in voice, piano, strings, and woodwinds. Instruction will also be available in music mixing for commercial purposes.

Both parking and concert admission are free, though reservations are required to guarantee seating. Seats can be secured by contacting (352) 588-8401 and leaving a message, or by emailing a request to the [email protected]. Guests are advised to arrive 15 minutes before the start of each program.

Music Lessons To Be Offered In The New Year

Seasonal songs performed by Saint Leo’s talented musicians and vocalists will be sure to have everyone feeling merry and bright.
