2 3SUMMER WITH SAXOPHONEGlasbena šola Gornja Radgona in colaboration with the Zdravilišče Radenci d.o.o. announces the 3. International Summer School for classical and jazz saxophone Saxophone power 2012, which will be held from 20. 8. to 24. 8. 2012 in ZdraviliščeRadenci in Radenci, Slovenia.

Welcome to the land of friendly people, located on the right bank of the Mura river on the border with the Austrian town Bad Radkersburg. Superb wine tourism developed in Gornja Radgona attracts many tourists who later want to return again and again. Beautifully decorated and attractive wine cellar - sparkling wine house, owned by Radgonske gorice d.o.o., a company, known since 1852 for its Zlata Radgonska Penina.

Along the Mura River is also a municipality Radenci where an excellent Radenci spa is located (Zdravilišče Radenci d.o.o.). With almost 130 year tradition, they are known for its mineral water. Radenci spa offers quality, friendliness and hospital-ity.

Music school Gornja Radgona, which is a medium-sized independent public educational institution, is located in this part of northeastern Slovenia. It spreads music education and musical arts develop-ment in the region since the year 1950. Highly quali-fied collective attributes that our students receive enviable awards and prizes at home and abroad. In the general educational program of music and dance, we pay a lot of time in chambermusic to create chamber groups, children’s choir, wind, accordion and guitar orchestra and Big Band of Music School Gornja Radgona & Radgonske gorice. We are proud of many former students who are now internationally recognized artists and great musicians. School head is Tomaž Polak, prof.

On his initiative GŠGR launches the third set with three International summer schools, for classi-cal and jazz saxophone, trumpet and guitar, with excellent mentors. The classes will take place in Zdravilišče Radenci for 5 days.

The purpose of the School is learning about the diverse musical literature for this very popular instrument, learning techniques of playing, play-ing in chamber ensembles and orchestra, which clearly constitutes a special enrichment. All this will take place while enjoying the excellent and varied hotel and Spas offer of Zdravilišče Raden-ci, where students will receive all the comfort and will be able to be pampered.

Artistic director of summer schools is mag. OtoVrhovnik, concert saxophonist and music educa-tor and professor at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna. Other lecturers are: Thomas Kugi (jazz saxophone) from the Universi-ty of Music and Dramatic Arts in Vienna, Rok Volk (Music school Gornja Radgona), Lev Pupis (Con-servatory for Music and Ballet in Ljubljana), Ales Logar (Music school Celje and Music School Fran Korun Koželjski Velenje) and Gorazd Topolovec(Music school Fran Korun Koželjski Velenje). In addition, we will each year invite two eminent Slovenian saxophone teachers to participate as assistants. This year we invited Andrej Šmon (Music school Slovenska Bistrica) and Ivor Reljić (Music school Nova Gorica).

We will endeavor to make this type of musical ed-ucation and training become traditional and that we will build it over the years and complement with other instruments and a richer program.

Mag. Oto Vrhovnik studied music in Maribor, Graz and Paris. He perfected his knowledge of classical saxophone in the classes of world renowned saxophonists such as Jean - MarieLondeix, Daniel Deffayet, etc. In 1979 he began teaching classical saxophone at the Conservatory in Graz. In 1985 he started andfounded the first class of classical saxophoneat the University of Music and Dramatic Artsin Vienna. Oto Vrhovnik is an internationallyrecognized professor and soloist. In additionto solo and chamber music making he alsoplays with various orchestras, participatesas an orchestral musician with the Viennaand Berlin Philharmonic, the Vienna StateOpera, the Summer Games in Salzburg, etc.Oto Vrhovnik has also established his ownSaxophone Quartet (Saxovhovnik - quartet)and saxophone orchestra in Vienna Saxo-phone - Project XII. Currently he is a professor of classical saxophone at the University of Music and Dramatic Arts in Vienna. His musi-cal activities include conducting, composing, making arrangements, recording CDs, partici-pating in radio and tv broadcasts, etc.

Rok Volk, spec. prof., MA, he graduated withhonors at the Academy of Music in Ljublja-na, where he also completed postgraduate specialization in the class of reg. univ. prof. Matjaž Drevenšek. For his achievements he received Prešernova prize of Academy of music Ljubljana.He spent two years perfecting in Paris (Jean Yves Fourmeau and Philippe Portejoie– graduated Premier Prix).He also completed a master’s degree with honors at the University of Musicand Dra-matic Arts in Vienna. Rok Volk is a winner of many national and international competitions.He cooperated with Slovenian symphonicalorchestras, Sommerfilharmonie Leoben(AUT), Festival Lent, Dubrovnik festival (CRO), Šibenik festival (CRO), Zagreb saxo-phone quartett, saxophone orchestras from Paris and Versailles conservatories...He is a jury member on international and national competitions and lecturer in inter-national seminars and summer schols. He is professor of saxophone at the Music School Gornja Radgona.

Lev Pupus gradiated in 1998 from the Univer-sity of Music in Vienna ( Oto Vrhovnik). From 2000 to 2003 he studied saxophone in Paris where he took his degree in J. Y. Fourmeau’s class (Premier Prix) and afterwards he con-tinued his post-graduate studies with Vincent David. In 2005 Lev Pupis successfully finished his Master’s Degree at the University of Music in Vienna and became »Magister Artium«(in Oto Vrhovnik’s class) and then also in 2007 at the Music Academy in Ljubljana (in Matjaž Drevenšek’s class). As a solo artist he per-formed with orchestras,such as: Symphony Orchestra of University of Music Vienna, Sym-phony orchestra of Ljubljana music academy, Slovenian philharmonic orchestra, Orchestra of slovenian composer society, St.George chamber orchestra and Chamber orchestraof Slovenian philharmonics with concerts inGraz, Ljubljana, Maribor, Belgrade and Vienna(George Pehlivanian, Tosihiro Jonezu, JurgenBruns, Claude Schnitzler). He cooperates withreputable symphonic orchestras, such as: Mozarteum orchestra from Salzburg, Radio symphonic orchestra from Vienna, RTV Slove-nia, the Slovenian Philharmonic, the Orchestra of Slovenian Army… Besides being a solo and chamber music performer, Lev Pupis is also involved in teaching at music Conservatory in Ljubljana

Gorazd Topolovec, MA, graduated fromthe High School of Music and Dramatic Arts in Graz. He completed a master’s degree in classical saxophone at the University of Vi-enna. As a versatile musician he is involved in various chamber ensembles and orches-tras from different music genres. He teaches saxophone and chamber music at the Music and art school in Velenje. His pupils are achieving outstanding results in various national and international competi-tions.

Aleš Logar, MA, graduated from thepedagogy of music for saxophone at theUniversity of Music and Dramatic Arts in Vi-enna, and also completed master’s degreemajoring in classical saxophone. He teachesat the Music School Fran Korun Koželjski inVelenje, and at the Music school in Celje. AlešLogar collaborates with various orchestrasand chamber groups, including the Orchestraof the Slovenian army and Slovenian philhar-monic orchestra. He is a member CeleiaSaxophone Quartet.

Born in Carinthia, Austria. He studied musicin Klagenfurt and Vienna. Thomas Kugi isone of the most celebrated and recognizedjazz saxophonists in Austria. In addition tointernational appearances he makes ar-rangements an composes for various world-famous Big Bands. Recognized saxophonist also for popular music. While recording and making concerts he has collaborated with the world famous soloists such as: Chaka Khan, Gloria Gaynor, The Surpremes, The Temptations, Omara Portuondo, Marianne Faithful, Gansch & Roses, Count Basic, Lew Soloff, Alegre Correa-Group, Jazz Big Band Graz, Idris Muhammed, Upper Austrian Jazz Orchestra, Gene Jackson, Marco Minnemann, Rodney Holmes, Adam Holtzman, Outreach Orchestra… Thomas Kugi teaches jazz at the University of Music and Dramatic Arts in Vienna since 2008.

Andrej Šmon, after graduating from the clari-net at SGBŠ Maribor, he enrolled in 1981 at the Academy of music in Ljubljana.That same year he was employed as a teacher of clarinet at the Music School Slovenj Gra-dec. In 1984 he successfully graduated in Lju-bljana in the class of professor Mihael Gunzek. Since 1985 he is a teacher of saxophone, clarinet and chamber music.In 1999 he graduated in saxophone in Maribor Music and Ballet High School in the class of Peter Kruder.As a clarinetist and saxophonist he plays in various chamber ensembles and orchestras.Quite a few of his students are prize winners of national as well as international competi-tions.Many of his pupils opted for further studies and are now established academic musicians and educators.

Ivor Reljić, spec. prof., attended primary and secondary music school “Ferdo Livadič” in Samobor (Croatia) in the class of Goran Merčep and in 2008 finished his studies at the Music Academy in Zagreb in the class of professor Dragan Sremec. In 2011 he completed post-graduate studies at the Academy of Music in Ljubljana in the class of professor Matjaž Drevenšek.In the last ten years he has actively participated in seminars with leading saxophonists: Claude Delangle, Eugene Rousseau, Vincent David, Arne Bornkamp, Jean-Denis Michat and others.Ivor has won numerous award at many do-mestic and international competitions for young, among which stand out ten absolute first awards at regional and national competi-tions (in 1998, 2000, 2002, 2004 and 2006). In 1998 and 2000 he further rewarded with the recognition of the Croatian Ministry of Science, Education and Sports.He also competed in chamber music and won two first awards in national competitions in 2005 and 2006 in the category of quartet and duo.He has appeared as soloist with the Slovenian Philharmonic Orchestra, Symphony Orchestra of HRT, the recitals in the “Samoborska glas-bena jesen”, and “Virtuoso” concert cycles.
