Dear Member,

In this issue of Satsanga, we share with you the experience of Ms. Lakshmi Venkatesh, devotee and Life member:

It was May 24th 2013 - an important day when the four of us, my husband, two children and I went on a trip to Sholingur and Kanchipuram.

The purpose of this visit was that Guruji had once urged my parents to visit Ahobilam (which is in Andhra Pradesh); they were never able to make it. The failing health of my father made me feel that he was not going to live long. And so I wanted to go on this trip on behalf of my parents.

Ahobilam is the abode of Lord Narasimha. Ahobilam is a hill temple and the effort of climbing the hills to have darshan makes us humble and reveals much to us. But my going to Ahobilam was out of question at that point of time considering the condition of my father and mother as also Mukundhen mama.

So I choose the temple of Lord Narasimha in Sholingur which is on a hilllock, and has a past link to our family. There is a shrine dedicated to Erumbiappa (forefather on my maternal side) in this temple. Erumbiappa was an ardent devotee of Lord Narasimha and was believed to have conversations with Lord Narasimha.

And so we started our journey that day morning and reached Sholingur by 10.00 am.

I had not done my homework at all and did not guess what this climb was all about. As we started to ascend the steps, we enquired with a few devotees about the climb up the hill.

They asked us whether we have climbed Tirupathi (hill).

“No” we said, “this is our first ever climb up any hill”.

“Well it is indeed going to be tough”. They all opined, “You need to climb 1300 steps and it will take about 2 ½ hours typically for a first timer. The temple doors will be closed by 12.30. Aren’t you late?”

That struck us like lightning! It was 10.00 already and the 2 ½ hours would be an absolute ‘touch and go’.

“You better hurry. And yes, there are lots of monkeys. Carry sticks to keep them at a distance.” They were helpful and a couple of them gave away their sticks to us.

So with a lot of enthusiasm we quickened our pace. The first fifty steps were child’s play.

I was ahead of the other three and even felt elated that I could manage to outdo my husband and children. The second set of fifty steps was also not much of a strain. I was telling myself that at this rate, the rest of the 1200 steps was going to be very easy.

After 100 steps I decided to take a pause and wait for my husband and children. As they caught up we all proceeded to climb.

NOT WITH POSSESSIVENESS, ATTACHMENTS, JEALOUSY ETC. DEVOID OF ALL THESE

THINGS WE CAN DEFINITELY FEEL ‘BRAHMAN’.

The next fifty steps was manageable but after the next fifty I discovered I was lagging behind. I was already huffing and puffing and what had I achieved? Just climbing 200 steps!

The temple was 1100 steps away but if such was my state after 200 steps where was the question of doing the balance?

My legs were shaky. Suddenly I was in no condition to climb any more. I gave up and told my family who were now about fifty steps ahead, to keep moving.

What was this, I thought to myself. I had come all the way from Chennai on behalf of my parents. I had wanted the benefit of the trip to go to them, but being unable to climb any further, I felt miserable. Even if this were for myself I would have just given up, but this was a penance I had chosen to do on behalf of my parents. I was distressed.

I prayed to Guruji. “Baba, I want to do this for the sake of my parents and You know that! I am unable to climb any further.” I was begging Him. “Please, please, Help me Complete this penance.”

Meanwhile my husband decided that he and my daughter would proceed leaving my son with me.

After a while holding my son’s hand, chanting Guruji’s name we both decided to slowly attempt the climb up.

After a couple of steps I started feeling very very light and the climb up was looking quite manageable. This was incredible but I could not afford to relax and take it easy.

With every breath and step I chanted His name and climbed ahead. I kept telling myself “I know Guruji will take care and make me achieve this IF He wanted me to go ahead”.

We had to reach the temple before 12.30. And, yes, we made it! We reached the doors of the temple uphill in 1 1/2 hours, a record for first timers. We had darshan and with a profound sense of happiness we climbed down, which took only 45 minutes.

As in the case of any strenuous exercise, after the uphill climb, anybody would have had severe pain in the ankle and legs. Yes, my husband and children had it. But I, I did not have any pain at all - not even a twitch.

And why would I have pain? I would not, as I have not climbed but was carried up by HIM.

When “I” was dominant “I” could cover only 200 steps, but when “I” died “HE” came in and what was impossible to me, He made it possible. “Guruji, Thank you for Everything, without You we are Nothing”.

That last line from Lakshmi is a clincher. How Guruji takes care!

We request every member to remit at least Rs.10,000/- in the name of “DMS Trust” to help tide over the crunch. You will be entitled to the benefit of Sec. 80-G. We are very happy to say that Mr. Krishnan Srinivasan and Shri T.R.Venkatakrishnan (both Life members) promptly donated Laptop and DVDs respectively.
