01Chairman Liang Wengen Attends the 18th National Congress of the CPC

Becoming Center of Attention as a Representative from the Private Sector

Liang Wengen, Chairman of SANY Heavy Industry, attended the 18th National Congress of the C o m m u n i s t P a r t y o f C h i n a ( C P C ) a s a

representative of the private sector. Chairman Liang said he hope that the government would continue to deepen reforms, open markets to privately owned companies and give more development space for private enterprise. This effort will mean “fine-tuning the relationship between the government and the market,” he said. Liang was among more than 2,200 delegates to the Congress opened on Nov. 8, 2012.

Liang said the Scientific Outlook on Development ideology of the CPC has provided an important guarantee for China’s development over the past 10 years. During those 10 years, SANY’s sales, profit and tax have seen a hundredfold rise, also demonstrating the success of the Scientific Outlook on Development. SANY is expected to have a prosperous future, Liang said, with vast potential for development in China and support from SANY’s international businesses.

Liang has been elected to the National Congress of the CPC fo r th ree t imes . In 2007 , he was the f i r s t entrepreneur from the private sector in Hunan Province elected to the 17th National Congress. In 2012, he attended the 18th National Congress as one of 34 Party

representatives from the private sector. It is widely believed that increased participation of the private sector in the National Congress indicates the non-state-owned economy’s status has improved and will have more say in China’s economic decisions.

02SANY Acquires Putzmeister Holding GmbH Changing the Competitive

Landscape in the Global Market

On January 21, 2012, SANY Heavy Industry and CITIC PE announced the acquisition of the world’s best-known concrete machine manufacturer – Putzmeister. SANY now holds a 90-percent share of Putzmeister Holding GmbH, with CITIC PE holding the remaining 10 percent. It was the first time a Chinese enterprise acquired a 100-percent share of a company that was the world’s number one brand.

This strategic acquisition was praised as “a showcase t ransact ion between China and Germany.” The cooperation between the world’s largest concrete-machinery manufacturer and the world’s number one concrete-machinery brand has changed the global competitive landscape. The acquisition cements SANY’s position as the leader of the global concrete machinery industry. Synergies of this alliance have begun to bear fruit. Even against the backdrop of a global economic recession, Putzmeister has achieved 30 percent year-on-

03SANY Attends the National Technological Innovation Conference

Being Recognized by the Government as the Leader of the Industry

On July 6, 2012, the National Technological Innovation Conference was held in Beijing. It was the first large, high-profile technical innovation conference since the foundation of new China. Nine entities participated in the conference, including the National Development and Reform Commission, the Ministry of Science and Technology, the Ministry of Finance, the Beijing Municipal Committee and Government, and SANY Heavy Industry. All of the participating members gave speeches at the conference. SANY was the only company representative, an indication that the government considers SANY the leader in China’s construction machinery industry.

Unlike the traditional manufacturing industry, in which innovation depends on low cost and imported technology, SANY positions itself as a company that produces high-quality products, strives to research and develop core techno log ies , and manu fac tu res i t s own co re components. Every year, SANY invests 5-7 percent of its sales revenue into research and development.

SANY’s products — such as concrete machinery, pile-driving equipment and crawler cranes — have become the brand leaders in China. It also has many other world-class products, such as an 86-meter-boom pump truck, super-pressure concrete pump, the world’s largest-tonnage excavator, Asia’s first 1,000-ton all-terrain crane, and the 3,600-ton SCC36000 crawler crane, which is hailed as “the World’s Number One Crawler Crane.” Through these achievements, SANY has become Ch ina ’s la rges t , and the wor ld ' s s i x th - la rges t

construct ion-equipment manufacturer. Through December 2012, SANY has applied for 5,873 patents, 3,303 of which have been approved. SANY ranks the first in patent application in China’s construction machinery industry.

Xiang Wenbo, president of SANY Heavy Industry, said innovation enables SANY to generate growth and reduce dependence on external economic conditions. This allows the company to weather economic downturns.

04Fight for Dignity SANY’s Lawsuit against President Obama and CFIUS

SANY-affiliated Ralls Corporation filed suit against U.S. President Barack Obama on October 1, 2012, after the U.S. government blocked Ralls from owning wind farms in Oregon. The Obama administration and the Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States (CFIUS) ruled Ralls ownership of the wind farms was a threat to U.S. national security. CFIUS is an interagency committee that reviews foreign ownership of U.S. companies for potential threats to national security.

In the face of an aggressive American government agency, Ralls filed a lawsuit in the U.S. District Court in Washington, D.C. According to reports, it’s the first time that an American president issued an order to halt acquisit ion of an American company by a foreign company. It is also the first time a Chinese company resorted to litigation to fight against trade protectionism in the United States. Xiang Wenbo, a director of the board of SANY Group, said in this case, the process is more important than the result. The company’s dignity, Xiang said, is more important than money. Fairness and justice are more important than financial benefits and interests, he said.

05Reforming Its Distribution SystemBuilding a Dealership System

to Last for Generations

A five-year effort has led to establishment of an upgraded network of 170 SANY dealers across China. The project was largely completed in September 2012. This strong dealership distribution system provides the company with superior marketing channels, which will help SANY build up new core competitiveness. Chairman Liang Wengen said dealers are one of SANY’s core assets, so SANY will continue to promote common development with its dealers for generations to come.

06SANY and Palfinger Establish Joint Ventures Ready to Penetrate the Truck

Mounted Crane Market

In March, 2012, SANY Heavy Industry signed a joint-venture agreement with the Austrian company Palfinger, showing SANY is fully ready to enter the truck-mounted crane market. It is SANY’s first international joint venture. According to the agreement, SANY-Palfinger Co. Ltd. will bui ld new factories near SANY Heavy Industry’s Ningxiang Industrial Park to conduct R&D, manufacturing and sales of special vehicles and equipment such as truck-mounted cranes tailored for both Chinese and g loba l markets . Pa l f inger -SANY Mobi le Crane International Sales Co. Ltd., headquartered in Salzburg, Austria, will distribute mobile cranes produced by SANY in Europe, the Commonwealth of Independent States and America.

Both joint-venture companies have started operation. SANY-Palfinger president Christophe Kalmar said the company aims to acquire the greatest market share in

China’s truck mounted crane market and change the domestic market landscape within five years. Meanwhile, it will build itself into a leader of the truck-mounted crane industry and a model for all joint ventures.

07Discarding Blind Pursuit of Ranking and SizeCalling for Rational

CompetitionIn October 2012, SANY reaffirmed its position against the blind pursuit of industry rankings and size. Since the end of 2011, vicious competition, such as blindly seeking scale and using radical marketing, became prevalent across the whole industry. SANY reaffirmed its business principles of “Brand First, Profit Second, Scale Last,” which can be interpreted as: “Seek profit and the ability to profit. Do not blindly expand the company’s scale. Do not blindly seek the company’s ranking in the industry. Do not blindly look for the company’s market share.” SANY’s statement calls for “rational competition.”

According to experts, over-pursuit of scale, ranking and market share have undermined the health of China’s construction machinery industry. SANY’s new principle aims to offer a cure to vicious competition. The industry will look to see what effect it has.

08SANY Heavy Industry Offers 178 Million Shares to Employees

A Stimulus for the Company’s Development

On December 7th, 2012, SANY Heavy Industry put forward an equity incentive plan to grant 178 million shares to 2,533 employees, including more than 10 senior managers. This plan will provide more benefits and

SANY ranked Number 36 on the 2012 list of the Top 500 Asian Brands, released in September 2012 in Hong Kong. SANY’s rank on this influential list was up from 48th in 2011. SANY also won “Asia’s Top 10 Influential Brand Award.” The Top 500 Asian Brands Committee said SANY produces high-quality products through innovation, which improves the image of goods “Made in China.”

10Chairman Liang Wengen Granted the “CCTV 2012 Economic Figure of the Year”

SANY Heavy Industry's Chairman Liang Wengen was one of 10 business and economic leaders named 2012 “Economic Figure of the Year” by the Chinese broadcast network CCTV. It was Liang’s second Figure of the Year Award since 2005. Liang’s award of the Economic Figure of the Year was announced on December 12 at a ceremony in Beijing. The theme of the CCTV 2012 Economic Figure of the Year Award was “The Mission of Enterprise.” According to CCTV, the reasons Liang won the award were: “Having completed the acquisition of Putzmeister, SANY became the world’s largest concrete machinery manufacturer. SANY now is seeking to further

its internationalization. It aims to increase its overseas business to 40%-50% of the company’s overall sales in five years. All the achievement and ambition of the company derive from this entrepreneur’s constant pursuit of excellence.”

After years of development, SANY Algeria has progressed greatly. The 4S shop operates successfully, including 800 square meters parts library, 600 square meters overhaul

workshop and 1000 square meters office area.

As one of the most important countries of North Africa BU, Algeria subsidiary has achieved gratifying performance at the beginning of 2013. It has sold more than 20 truck cranes in January. What’s more, the marketing representatives have also received an intentional order of 50 excavators, which has shown the strong position of SANY in Algeria market.

After the perfect ending of Sany Asia-Pacific in 2012 with sales target over-fulfilled, 100 Sany machines recently appeared at the port of Laem Chabang in Bangkok. The 50 mixer trucks, 40 excavators and 10 truck cranes indubitably hit the target of Asia-Pacific market in 2013,

demonstrating the international influence and competitiveness of Sany brand.

Even though Sany suffered in the downturn of the construction machinery market in 2012, it has managed not only to move forward but also the acquisition of Putzmeister, the world’s construction machinery leader. To lay the foundation for future development, Sany has set up four overseas divisions, six regional business units, with service outlets throughout every corner in the world. In 2013, Sany will continue to expand in Asia-Pacific market with premium product quality and service support.

SANY ROTARY DRILLING RIG CHALLENGES EXTREME COLDNESS IN RUSSIA

In October 2012, Sany SR150 rotary drilling rig participated in the Noyabrsk regional oil, natural gas transmission station construction projects in Russia, making Sany the only rotary drilling rig brand on the site. It is a key project of

the Russian national new energy hub for the Asian region. The construction site is located in the north of Russia, near the Arctic Circle in the permafrost, The temperature is below 0 ℃ all year round with the lowest at -60℃. Arctic climate

has brought great difficulty to the work of the rotary drilling rig. But the project requires Sany rotary drilling rig to maintain normal operation in the case of -30 ℃ to -40 ℃. To meet this standard, Sany has taken a number of improvement measures. Meanwhile, the Russian dealer has designated a premium service engineer to provide full onsite service, timely solving all problems. The adapted SR150 has been working smoothly in line with the requirements of the construction. As the first battle for Sany rotary drilling rig to challenge extreme coldness, participating in this project will open the foundation construction market for Sany in northern Russia and other countries alike.

Speaking to Vice President, Sany Heavy Industry, Daniel Dongdong He, at the Sany stand, bauma China, he states that as the Chinese economy had cooled by the end of 2012, the domestic market, come 2013, would not see significant growth, “similar to this year” and would remain flat. “This year,

the entire industry in China suffered between 25% and 30% decline. Sany however will, in all likelihood, manage the same revenue as that of 2012, which sets us apart from the rest of the industry.”

He emphasises that as all Chinese companies were experiencing a slowdown, the international market was becoming increasingly important to the Chinese manufacturer. “Sany, along with our competitors are paying greater attention to the overseas market,” he states.

Continuing, Daniel says, “Actually, the result this year has been quite good for Sany Corporation, with our overseas sales increasing by 50%. This excludes sales made by Putzmeister (which was acquired by Sany in 2012) but if we include Putzmeister, then we sold RMB10-billion worth of equipment overseas in 2012. That means that in 2013 we can invest more on focusing on the international market.”

Specifically relating to Africa, Daniel acknowledges that the continent is “one of our largest overseas markets. This is largely owing to the historically excellent Sino-Africa relationship we enjoy with the continent,” he adds.

“With China being so intimately involved with the development of Africa, the strong relationship will continue to benefit both continents, as we believe we are like a sibling to Africa. Both China and Africa are developing countries, we have similar challenges and come from similar backgrounds. We understand more fully the customs, requirements and cultures of Africa, than say the US or Europe does. We are aware that efficiency of equipment is paramount, along with ease of maintenance, as well understanding as the harsh, rough conditions. In which the machines will be deployed,” Daniel elaborates. “We feel that we can reach down and help our brother step up,” he adds analogously.

Continuing, he says, “We have many friends on the African continent and through our relationships with these countries, we are able to finance and support many African projects through the Chinese government.”Daniel adds, that being an entirely privately-owned company, Sany, unlike many of it competitors –who are state, or partly state-owned – cannot rely on the Chinese government to subsidise the company during hard times and are also less likely therefore, to obtain government orders: “We are very successful in the open market, but less successful when it comes to government projects, which is a disadvantage in China, but it serves to motivate us to improve our product and service for our clients,” he states.

Challenges relating to Africa“With Africa being such an enormous continent, with under developed infrastructure, the key issues are service and part supply,” he states categorically. Being such a remote market from the manufacturing base, the main thrust of establishing a name for themselves within the continent, is to ensure that sufficient spares and parts are readily available to all their African projects and to distribute through a comprehensive service network. “But we are not the only ones with this challenge,” he adds hastily, “our competitors face the same challenge!”

“The second issue is ensuring that there are qualified service technicians on hand. In some countries, the lack of skilled technicians poses a significant problem To overcome this, we send our Chinese engineers to work with our dealers to train them and also help them do the job together, to upskill them and ensure quality of service is maintained.” (Interestingly, he states that, “South Africa does not have this problem; it is more like a European country.”)

Once the technicians are trained, they in turn, train the next lost coming through the system. The dealers are sent directly to China to undergo training. “The advantage that Sany has training and upskilling staff in Africa, is that the Chinese engineers have no issues working in the harsh conditions, unlike our European colleagues, who often have problems working in such remote, and at times inhospitable, conditions,” Daniel says and adds, “resulting in the demand for higher salaries and more expensive living quarters, to motivate them to work in the African environment.”

He states that the lower expectations that the Chinese have of the living conditions ensures that they ultimately have more of a ‘hands-on’ approach to fitting in and assimilating the local cultures and befriending their ‘hosts’, while forming strong and lasting relationships.

Sany’s successDaniel says that the vision of Sany’s leaders is what he attributes the success of the overseas subsidiary and manufacturing bases. “Our leaders have the vision to develop people, both inside and outside of the

company, in every country in which they are present. Sany’s commitment to improvement and development goes beyond a written oath, it is a reality. We live our vision,” he says with total conviction.According to Daniel, Sany has three pillars that underpin its vision viz: R&D, Service and Manufacturing capacity.

“Sany invests 5% of our turnover into R&D every year and we have 6000 R&D engineers worldwide, almost half of our total staff complement. We have more than 3000 authorised patents, several times having won the Golden Medal Patent Award in China as well as the National Scientific Award. We are the only one in the industry who could win this,” he states and adds, “this is because of our ongoing technological advances and innovative thinking. We have the capacity to develop the machine from conception.” The global R&D and manufacturing bases in the US, Germany, Brazil and India.”

He maintains, “Sany has the best service brand in China and also in our new overseas market regions. The reason is simple; we are the only private company among the biggest Chinese manufacturer.” He reiterates how difficult it is for a private company to compete with state-owned entities. “The way we maintain our excellent reputation is to offer the best service to our customer base.”

Daniel says that Sany has the most advanced technology in the Chinese equipment market, with excellent management and IT systems, coupled with exceptional standards of quality control. “We have set up global (R&D and manufacturing bases ) in the US, Germany, Brazil and India.”

According to Daniel during the past 15 years, Sany has experienced an average growth rate of 60%, with RMB80-billion turnover during the past year.

This is one Chinese manufacturer to watch out for.

Since its establishment in January 2013, North Africa BU has quickly built a stable and efficient team in less than a month to start its sales business.

North Africa BU has 63 Chinese employees and 18 local staff. Among them, 22 marketing members work respectively in twenty countries, forming a perfect sales network; 36 service engineers provide fast and effective after-sales service support with technical skills and fluent local language.

1. Batching plant water additive unloading butterfly valve opening alarm

Failure symptoms:

During the debugging process, the upper computer indicates (for the additive measuring bucket and water measuring bucket) the unloading butterfly valve is not fully open.

Possible reasons for the failure:

1) Electric connection Problem;2) Butterfly valve signal case fault;3) Lack of pressure in air circuit system4) PLC communication fault.

Trouble-shooting process:

1) Check LED light I6.4 and I6.5 when the equipment is not working and the gas-pressure meter indicates 0.6mpa.

2) Open the water measuring bucket signal receiving case and test the voltage with the multimeter to see whether it’s normal (DC24V).When you press the water measuring bucket valve, the upper computer will still show the door is not fully open yet. The pressure and air circuit system are both normal at that time.

Through repeatedly testing the water measuring bucket door-closing signal, we find out that the red light in the

signal case is on and the green light in the water measuring bucket is also on. Therefore the problem causing the malfunction is that the green light receives signal. (For Sany’s batching plant, all measuring buckets would only detect door-closing signal, thus normally the green light indicating door-opening signal would not be on.) When the signal of the red light is cut off, the machine can work properly.

2. Method to troubleshoot the problem that the running speed of grader is too lowFailure symptoms:

The running speed of grader can only reach 8-12km/h.

Possible reasons for the failure:

1) E lect r ic i ty not measured at a travelling motor solenoid valve2) Motor speed sensor fault;

3) Pump failure;4) Hydraulic system fault.

Trouble-shooting process:• Electricity not measured at a travelling motor solenoid valve.1) Take out l ine 311 or 312 on the circuit board. Then connect it with a multimeter for circuit measurement. Start the engine, adjust gears (drive for automatic gearshift), the circuit shall be 0-700mA (circuit of two motors change within 0-1400mA). If it’s not the case, there may be broken wires or damage in the solenoid valve;

2) Disconnect the motor solenoid valve plug on the left and right. Start the machine and dr ive i t , record the highest running speed. Compare the two highest speeds. If highest running s p e e d w h e n l e f t m o t o r p l u g i s disconnected is the same as that before the failure, and when the right plug is disconnected, the highest speed changed to 1st gear speed, it indicates that there is problem with left motor solenoid valve or wiring. Then first check wires of left motor, if there is no problem, then check whether it’s a motor failure. Conversely, we can detect whether there is something wrong on the right side.

1st gear speed when two motors are disconnected, there is a problem with the pump.

• Motor speed sensor fault1) Open the electrical cabinet and drive the machine slowly. Observe the I0.0 and I0.1 indicator lights on PLC. If the lights flash, the speed-measuring signals are ok. If the lights are not on or d o n o t f l a s h , i t m e a n s t h e r e i s something wrong with the speed-measur ing s igna l . I f there is no problem with wiring connection, there

must be failure with the sensor.

2) Press F3 on the text displayer, page down to find “left speed” and “right speed”. Drive the vehicle and see speed of which side shows 0. There is problem with the sensor or wires on that side.

• Pump failureConnect 321# wire with multimeter to measu re t he c i r cu i t . I n no rma l condition, circuit of Sauer pump shall be 85-100mA, and Rexroth pump

about 650mA.

• After it’s confirmed that all the above-mentioned problems do not exist, it can be inferred that there is problem with the hydraulic system.

After checking the pump and motor electric proportional valve, we find that the valve core is stuck. The problem is resolved after cleaning the valve core.

3. Drilling rig of rotary drilling rig 280R glides down automatically

After the replacement of the mast, the dril l ing rig of the rotary dril l ing rig SR280R in Vietnam would glide down automatically.

Fault analysis:

After raising the drilling rig, the main winch wire stops in hoisting work. The d r i l l i n g r i g t h e n g l i d e s d o w n automatical ly unti l i t touches the ground. It can be inferred that the gliding occurred as the winch cannot hold still without load.

Possible reasons for the failure:

1) The wires are falsely connected. 2) Main winch motor has leakage or the hydraulic lock is damaged. 3) Main winch brake pad cannot effectively lock or is mal-positioned.

Trouble-shooting process:

1) Having checked the electric system of the machine, including circui t installation, the electromagnetic valve and plug bond, we find the wires are all cor rec t ly connected and, in the meanwhile, the circuit is working normally. Therefore, we can conclude that the fault is not resulted from the

electric system.

2) Opening the hydraulic locks beside the motor, we find the hydraulic lock is worn out especially the one on the right side. After cleaning the two hydraulic locks and switching them with each other, the fault still exists.

3) Lift an assigned drilling rig to the height of 3 to 5 meters with the main winch wire. It is observed that the drilling rig would glide by itself when it is lifted to either 3 or 5 meters high, and would only stop when it reach the ground. When the drilling rig is pulled to a position higher than 5 meters, it will not glide after the rubber pipe on the bottom of the winch is dismantled; meanwhile, there is no oil issuing from the rubber pipe’s installation port at the b o t t o m o f t h e w i n c h . W h e n w e dismantle the rubber pipe attached to the three-way connection at the lower part of the motor, there is no oil issuing from the motor. Thus it is inferred that t h e m o t o r a n d t h e m a i n w i n c h decelerator have no damage or inner leakage.

4 ) C o m p a r i n g t h e h y d r a u l i c components of the machine with hydraulic schematic diagram, we find out that the circuit of electromagnetic valve on the right side of the main winch is the opposite with that in the schematic diagram, so we infer that the

c u s t o m e r i n s t a l l e d t h e t w o electromagnetic valves in the wrong posit ion. When we switch the two valves, the trouble is removed.

January 20th, 2013, an ordinary day for the others but the most exciting day for Li Yongshan, the service manager in P.T. Sany Indonesia Machinery, Asia-Pacific Region. That day will change his whole life, for he is going to marry a beautiful Indonesian girl named Sandra in central Jakarta, Indonesia.

L i came to Indones ia in ear ly 2012 as the subsid iary Serv ices Manager in P.T. Sany Indonesia Machinery, handling service, parts and daily administration affairs. He has been worked at Sany for almost six years and had remained single due to the long-term overseas work. In May 2012, he met the very girl in Indonesia: Sandra. As the third generation of Chinese-Indonesian, Sandra can speak only a little bit Chinese and English. But with such limited Chinese and English, they got to know each other in romantic ways and finally decided to step into marriage. With the help of Sandra, Li studied hard to learn Indonesian and

now can speak Indonesian fluently, which helped him a lot with doing his work.

As the first one who got married with local people at Sany Asia-Pacific Region, he feels lucky and delighted for finding his soul mate in Indonesia without suffering from been separated with the spouse by distance. He determines to devote the rest of his life to work at Sany Indonesia, and he believes that Sany will have a bright future in Indonesia and the whole world, creating an unparalleled glorious chapter in the coming years. Li and his bride sincerely hope that Sany could have more "international couples" to contribute to the internationalization of the company.
