A Picnic

One day, a few of my friends and I went on a picnic to Minyak Beku, a small interesting place on the coast of Malaya.

Minyak Beku is about five miles from Batu Pahat, a well known town in the state of Johore in Malaysia. There is a small ancient fort at the entrance to Minyak Beku. The beach at Minyak Beku is beautiful, and there is an iron mine nearby.

We arrived at that place in the morning. After getting out of the bus, we separated into different groups and looked for shady places to spend the day.

Soon, most of us went swimming. While in the water, we were playing a few interesting games. Those who were on the beach were playing other games. Some of them even sang songs and danced. There were still others who were interested in nothing, except picking shells.

In short, everyone enjoyed the trip. In the evening, we returned home in our bus, thinking of the fun we had had at that place. I enjoyed the trip so much.

A day on the beach. An orange glare shone off of the smart,

sophisticated, sea, illuminating the beautifully sandy beach. Untouched by mankind and ready for a long day. The beach awaited the thousands of humans who would parade across its soft textured surface. Suddenly, there was the unmistakable sound of excited people making their way towards the sea, when they arrived there was a gasp so loud that it would awaken even the heaviest sleeper, for the thousands of people were shocked at the array of colours dazzling brightly off the sea.

The smell of ice cream twists and twirls in circles, fish and chips fresh from the oven wrapped in old pieces of newspaper, fresh suntan cream smothered over skin. All that could be seen was the tops of brightly coloured beach umbrellas shading the many people beneath, sandcastles littered the beach, the places where people had written messages in the sand, heads sticking out of the sand where people had buried themselves, the bright sun glaring off of the plastic deck chairs.

The sounds were peaceful. The buzz of general talking rising was the many people trying to be heard over the laughter of tiny children playing like wild monkeys. The splash of people occasionally running into the sea to cool down from the blazing heat streaming down from the sun, breaks the peace.

The gentle crashing of the waves moving themselves further up the beach was all that was needed to tell the visitors that it was time to leave. So with the clatter of plastic the patter of feet leaving the beach and entering the hard stone floor of the outside, industrial and polluted world well away from the clean and peaceful beach. Then silence and once again after a long and fun packed day the marvellous beach was ready for a long and peaceful sleep and all that was on its mind was I wonder what brand new faces I would see tomorrow.

A Day At The Beach

I ran down the boardwalk, not worrying about getting splinters in my tender feet.   Every ten or fifteen feet I stopped, sometimes to smell the salty sea air, but mostly to wait for my parents who plodded along behind carrying chairs, coolers, and other beach paraphernalia.  I yelled back to them to hurry, and they replied that I could run ahead and found a good spot.   I yelped with glee and ran as fast as my little legs would carry me. I stopped where the dark, brown of the boardwalk meets the light, white of the beach.  

My dad warned me about how hot the sand can get.   I cautiously took a step forward testing the sand, “Ouch”, he was right.   What am I going do now, in my six year old eyes the water seemed to be a mile away and stretched fordays in all directions.   I was determined to reach it, no matter what sacrificesI must make.  

I stepped forward again testing the sand, still white hot.   I pulled my courage from the corners of my being and made a run for it.   This was not so bad if I ran really fast.   The wind blew in my face, bringing with it that smell, almost a taste of the ocean.   It seemed to be a combination of fish, salt, people, and water all mixed into one.  

I continued to run until I reached thewater's edge where the waves crashed upon the beach, making the white sand brownand hard.   I sat down on the sand, panting after my enormous effort.   Something troubling pulled at the edge of my mind, but I ignored it.  \

A wave rolled up to the beach, crashing around me, wetting my hot body.   I covered my legs and arms with the cool, wet sand.   I heard my mom calling me to come up to the umbrella.   I turned to look at her, as Ido so the little thing at the edge of my mind suddenly dawns on me.   I made itout to the water, now I must make my way back.

• An  Accident The road in front of my school is a

narrow one. It is also very busy. Every afternoon when school is dismissed the road becomes almost impassable as children, bicycles, cars and buses jostle and struggle to use it. Sometimes a policeman is there to help things out, but generally chaos reigns and we have to be careful not to get involved in an accident. A few accidents had already occurred. I was a witness to one.

If happened just after school. As usual the road was an utter mad house. Children were running across the road to get to their cars and buses. Cars and buses honked angrily at them. Just then I saw a young boy make a dash across the road.

There was a loud blare of horn, a squeal of brakes and I saw a car knock into the boy. He fell as though his feet were swept from under him. Fortunately the car was not moving very fast and the driver managed to stop the car before a wheel could run over the fallen boy.

All traffic stopped. I ran over to the boy and saw blood on the road. He was bleeding from a cut on his head. A man came and examined the boy. Then he lifted the boy and carried him to a car. They sped off, presumably to the hospital.

Many people surrounded the driver who looked dazed and bewildered. A policeman came to calm things down. As there was nothing I could do, I turned and walked down the road carefully. It was terrible to witness an accident. I certainly would not like to be involved in one.
