It is a baby Volvo. But a lot of youngsters will also call it a baby as well. Well, that’s not about its size. Perhaps that’s because it has a major make over. It has more zest than the new Golf or even the new Mini. The styling that has created a storm is called R Design. It is a major upgrade from the normal look that is slightly plain for a certain audience.
The C30 T5 R-Design has a bigger wheel with specially designed alloys. It has a mild body kit including hatch top spoiler.
Interior is excellent with Volvo’s signature waterfall floating central control panel for air conditioner and sound control.
Driving with this T5 is full of fun. Firstly, the steering is sharp. It is not just pointing a direction, it is precision steering. Secondly, the close ratio manual gear box is perhaps the best in its price range. The clutch is light to work with

the gear box. From memory, the S2000 is slightly better than this. Thirdly, the seat is well cushioned and bolstered. It makes you feel more secured. Fourthly, its unique design with the blind spot detection system helps heaps in protecting yourself from getting into possible T-bone hitting trouble.
The best of this baby C30 is not its style, selling price or even its fame that equates to safety or even bench marking of the world wide automotive safety standard. It is the concept of safety and technological ingredients that make it a Volvo. For the Swedish Volvo, you may be slightly disappointed, as the C30 is made in Belgium.
I found the C30 has an unique styling that drew inspirations from Volvo P1800. But the unique or strange back hatch glass door wouldn’t make a difference if it wasn’t a mild firecracker mini sports.

People blame the Mini sells betterand looks better, but the Volvo C30 is an original concept that speaks for itself about speed, styling and safety. The straight 5 cylinder petrol turbo engine belts out 169kW of power at 5,000rpm. In addition, it has a generous 320Nm of torque from just 1,500rpm all the way up to 5,000rpm. If you are not quite interested in changing gears, this is the kind of car that you will be looking for. If you knows about how much power does an average family Australian car has, you will understand that 169kW is very fast comparing to 200kW of power in those much heavier cars. The sound of the engine is very healthy and sounds very powerful and whoopee as well .
Fuel economy is somewhere around 8.7Litre as claimed but, the more stop start action that you will take, the more it is going to be used.
For the price from $35,000 to $50,000, you will be amazed that the C30 is excellent in every possible angle. I wouldn’t be surprised if Volvo put more advertisement to attract the younger drivers’ attention. As it is not a tank nor a brick, C30 spells out as responsive speeding in a safe environment. Put it this way, in Europe there are Freeways just limited to 250kms per hour, this C30 certainly lives well in there.
