‘K olompure,’the latest comedian produced by Priyantha Ranjan and scripted by Kothmale Senevirathne and Sarath Kulanga will be staged on May 20 at 7 pm at the Uhana Pradeshiya Sabha premises in Ampara presented by the House of Drama Institute. The cast includes Wasantha Wittachchi, Sarath Kulanga, Sarath Chandrasiri, Richard Manamudali, Nilmini Kottegoda, Udaya Kumari, Tharaka Upendra,Nimal Jayasinghe,Upul Mahanama, Jeevan Handunneththi and Jay- anath Bandara. Lisa and Julien are married and lead a happy and uneventful with their son Oscar. But their life get into crisis when, one morning the police comes to arrest Lisa for murder. She was sentenced to 20 years in prison. Convinced of the innocence of his wife, Julien decides to escape. How far is he willing to go “for her”? The movie is most suitable for mature audience and is subtitled in English. S AARC Cultural Centre will be once again be hosting the SAARC Film Festival from May 26 to 31, in Colombo. Regional films of late are becoming popular not only in the region but globally as well. The SAARC Cultural Centre takes pride in promoting Arts and Culture in the region, and given the success of the SAARC Film Festival in 2011 and 2012, the Centre will once again pro- mote regional films by hosting the upcoming Film Festival. This year too, the Centre will showcase Feature and Documentary films of the region, and Member States of the SAARC Countries, have nominated some of their best movies from the respective coun- tries. This will be an unique opportunity for the general public to view some of the best films from the SAARC Region. An award will be given to the Best Feature Film and documen- tary Film - which will be adjudicated by a panel of international Jury from Russia, Iran and Singapore. Further there will be also a spe- cial workshop organised by the Centre for Directors of these films as well as experts in the Film Industry. Last year, nominations were received from Bangladesh, India, Maldives, Pakistan and Sri Lanka. Sri Lanka’s nomination of Akasa Kusum , bagged first place, while the award winning Docu- mentary “ Saving Face” from Pakistan won the Best Docu- mentary Film. The SAARC Cultural Centre, in keeping with its mandate of promoting culture in the region through different modes of art, will showcase films from the region as cultural expressions at its forthcoming SAARC Film Festival. The Film Festival will give all Mem- ber States an opportunity to screen some of the best films from the region. The SAARC Region has produced some films with a standard of excellence. The festival will also invite the film Directors of the nominated films to partici- pate at the Festival. N ot another art project - an exhibition of visual arts is organised by Colombo Art- ists, which consist of a group of renowned artists in Sri Lanka together with some internationally recognised artists from various parts of the world will be held until Sunday (June 2) at BAREFOOT Gallery, No.704, Galle Road, Colombo-3. The artists in Colom- bo Artists have represented Sri Lanka in number of international work shops and exhibitions over the years. They have contributed to the Sri Lankan Art indus- try in various forms. Colombo Artists appreciate the moral boost that happens from the ART projects, but this Exhibition is an Experimental Exhibition of its own. In most art projects the “Theme” is given to the artists or art work is selected by a curator. The specialty is ‘not another art project ‘is that the artists are given a chance to open their mind without any restrictions or boundaries. Artists are not compelled to limit their work under a theme. In this exhibition artists are not expected to reach goals. But to let the creativity come out in open in their own shapes and colours. This would be a wonderful opportunity given to every artist in here and overseas. The concert will be dedicated to Ruvini Hapugalle Gunasekera’s mother Indranee Hapugalle, who was also her first piano teacher. ‘Tribute’ will feature a rich galaxy of varying musical styles, including Classics, Jazz, Broadway, Disney, light Classics, Pop and Hollywood theme songs. Popular classical masterpieces, by composers such as Chopin, Debussy and Rachmaninoff, will be performed as piano solos by award winning star students. The evening’s musical firmament will be studded by a number of piano duets that the audience is bound to savour. The popular Canon in D, Carmen Fantasy, Tango in D, Summertime, I got Plenty of Nuttin, Mardi Gras, Cabaret and Havah Nagilah will constitute some of the evening’s constella- tion of duets. During the last four years, full length feature films produced on post war existence in Sri Lanka were few and far between. While veteran filmmakers shy away from con- temporary Sri Lankan life, young filmmakers were making a plethora of short films on post war life of the island. Film Forum in May will be focusing on their daring journey. The Curator will be Anomaa Rajakaruna. T hilaka Kudahetti’s latest book titled ‘Krishnamurtithumage Jeevithaya’ will be launched at the Dayawansa Jayakody bookshop, Colombo 10 on May 21 at 10 am. It is the authentic Sinhala translation of Mary Lutyens’ ‘The Life and Death of Krishnamurti.’ Kudahetti is the author of several other books such as ‘Atanpahura, Akala Meghaya, Durga Tharanaya, Neela Desa Pura, Kulagei Vilanguva, Vathura, Bharatha Yogin saha Isivarayin Samaga, Piramida Bhuthayin Igyptu San- nasin Ha Manthrakaruvan Samaga and ‘Bharatha Maha Rishi Ramana.’ ‘Krishnamurtithumage Jeevithaya’ is a Dayawansa Jay- akody publication. 20 May 31 May 02 June Shattered Glass S hattered Glass (2003) will be screened on May 21 at 6pm at the American Centre, No 44, Galle Road, Colombo 3. (Running Time: 94 minutes) Michael Kelly (Hank Azaria) is the first editor of “The New Republic” with whom Stephen Glass worked. When Kelly finds something questionable in one of the stories submitted by Glass, Stephen is able to explain it away, and the incident is glossed over. When Kelly is fired by the publisher, Chuck Lane (Peter Sarsgaard) takes over under difficult circumstances, as the staff is loyal to Kelly and resentful of Lane. Still, Lane perseveres, occasionally crossing swords with Stephen Glass. All comes to a head when a reporter from another publication questions the veracity of one of Stephen’s stories. An inside investigation by an anguished and angry Chuck Lane clearly shows that Stephen’s story is not fact based but, rather, an elaborate deceit, false from beginning to end.
