Blast From the Past(or) Twenty-Ninth Sunday in Ordinary Time October 20, 2019

Pay attention to what the dishonest judge says......

Ok. I’ll bite. Scripture is replete with head-scratching passages like this one. What benefits could the dishonest judge possibly confer on followers of Christ? By Jesus’ own account, this guy was a bad mamma jamma (that’s my own translation from the ancient Aramaic) ‘who neither feared God nor respected any human being.’ Yet, Jesus lauds a good in him. Like many of us, there’s a virtue deep down in our core, just waiting to be exercised for the glory of God and love of neighbor. We often interact with people who are obnoxious, two-faced or arrogant toward us. How about the guy who takes up two parking spaces outside of the CVS? Or the person who talks incessantly during the movie? Or even worse, that twenty-six item guy at the Express, Ten-Items-Or-Less Check-Out? Ok, well, maybe that was me (the lady behind me sure was angry). But anywho, you get the point: even the dishonest judge can recognize good. He sees that the determination of the Widow is connected to her hope and that persistence stems from her patience in God. In our culture, there is much dishonesty among those who would withhold remedy for some, while failing to apply the law equally to all. These are the times to double-down like the persistent widow, praying all the more. Even the dishonest judge proclaims the Truth: ‘will not God then secure the rights of His chosen ones who call out to Him day and night...?”

God Bless you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thank You for Your Stewardship of Time, Talent and Treasure!

Mass Cards Having a Mass offered is a wonderful way to remember a deceased loved one, celebrate a birthday or anniversary, or for any special intention you may have. Mass Cards can be obtained by visiting the Parish Office Monday, Tuesday or Thursday between 9:00 am and 2:00 pm.

Prayers for the Sick Please join us in praying for all who are ill in our community, and in a particular way for Phil Barrett, Bob Bass, Karen Cutaneo, Fred Donikowski, Florence Kearney, Christopher Popp, Edmond Sherry, Flynn Sullivan and Frank Sweeney. May God bring them and their families His healing, comfort and peace. If you would like to have your name or that of a loved one included in the request for healing prayers in our weekly bulletin, please send an email to Sue Marshall at [email protected].

Food For Thought in this Week to Come What is one thing or person you might have taken for granted during this past week? How can you better show your gratitude in the week to come?

“Prayer joined to sacrifice constitutes the most powerful

force in human history.”

- Saint John Paul II

Ministry Needs – Can You Help? We are in great need of volunteers to assist us in the following ministries:

- Counters: We’re looking for adults who can offer 1.5 – 2 hours one Monday a month to assist in counting the weekly collections. Counting takes place at the Parish Office on Monday mornings. If interested, please contact the Parish Office for more details. - Eucharistic Ministers: Being a Eucharistic Minister is a beautiful way to participate even more fully in the Mass. There is no time commitment outside of Mass, so it’s a great opportunity for those with even the busiest of schedules to serve. We are especially in need of ministers to serve at the 7 pm Mass. Parishioners and non-parishioners are most welcome. Please contact Sue Marshall for more information at [email protected].

- Lectors: Proclaiming the Word of God is a tremendous privilege and also a great joy. New lectors are always needed and very welcome. You can serve at as many or as few Masses as you would like and choose the times that are convenient for you. If interested, please contact Ginny Lund at [email protected] for more information.

- Religious Education: We are looking for teachers to assist on Sunday mornings. Classes are small and materials will be provided. Please contact Teresa Thomas at [email protected] for more information.
