April 14th, 2019 Palm Sunday of the Passion of the Lord
The Blessing of the Palms
Gospel—Luke 19:28-40
The Lord be with you. And with your spirit. A reading from the holy Gospel according to Mark. Glory to you, O Lord.
Jesus proceeded on his journey up to Jerusalem. As he drew near to Bethphage and Bethany at the place called the Mount of Olives,
he sent two of his disciples. He said, “Go into the village opposite you, and as you enter it you will find a colt tethered on which no one has ever sat.
Untie it and bring it here. And if anyone should ask you, ‘Why are you untying it?’ you will answer,
‘The Master has need of it.’” So those who had been sent went off
and found everything just as he had told them. And as they were untying the colt, its owners said to them,
“Why are you untying this colt?” They answered, “The Master has need of it.”
So they brought it to Jesus, threw their cloaks over the colt,
and helped Jesus to mount. As he rode along,
the people were spreading their cloaks on the road; and now as he was approaching the slope of the Mount of Olives,
the whole multitude of his disciples began to praise God aloud with joy for all the mighty deeds they had seen.
They proclaimed: “Blessed is the king who comes
in the name of the Lord. Peace in heaven and glory in the highest.”
Some of the Pharisees in the crowd said to him, “Teacher, rebuke your disciples.” He said in reply,
“I tell you, if they keep silent, the stones will cry out!”
The Gospel of the Lord. Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ.

Responsorial Psalm - Psalm 22:8-9, 17-18, 19-20, 23-24
All who see me laugh at me. They shake their heads, They shake their heads. You trusted in God; let God deliver you, deliver you, if God loves you. Closely, now they press me ‘round, and pierce me through, they pierce me through. You trusted in God; let God deliver you, deliver you, if God loves you.
2nd Reading - Philippians 2:6-11
A Reading from the Letter of St. Paul to the Philippians
Christ Jesus, though he was in the form of God, did not regard equality with God something to be grasped. Rather, he emptied himself, taking the form of a slave, coming in human likeness; and found human in ap-pearance, he humbled himself, becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross. Because of this, God greatly exalted him and bestowed on him the name which is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bend, of those in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue con-fess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. The Word of the Lord. Thanks be to God.
The Liturgy of the Word
1st Reading - Isaiah 50:4-7
A Reading from the Book of the Prophet Isaiah
The Lord GOD has given me a well-trained tongue, that I might know how to speak to the weary a word that will rouse them. Morning after morning he opens my ear that I may hear; and I have not rebelled, have not turned back. I gave my back to those who beat me, my cheeks to those who plucked my beard; my face I did not shield from buffets and spitting. The Lord GOD is my help, therefore I am not disgraced; I have set my face like flint, knowing that I shall not be put to shame.
The Word of the Lord.
Thanks be to God.
“Let us pray.”
“Almighty ever-living God, who as an example of humility for the human race to follow caused our Savior to take flesh and submit to the Cross, graciously grant that we may heed
his lesson of patient suffering and so merit a share in his Resurrection. Who lives and reigns with you in the unity of
the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever.” Amen.
Collect
The Passion of the Lord
Due to the length of the Passion, it is not printed here, but participation copies are at the ends of the pews. We would
like to save them for future use, so please return them to the end of the pews after Mass. All are encouraged to stand for the entire Passion, but please feel free to be seated as you
need to.
Christ became obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross. Because of this, God greatly exalted him and bestowed on him the name which is above every name.
Preface Dialogue “The Lord be with you.” And with your Spirit. “Lift up your hearts.” We lift them up to the Lord. “Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.” It is right and just.
“Pray brothers and sisters (brethren), that my sacrifice and yours may be acceptable to God, the almighty Father.” May the Lord accept the sacrifice at your hands for the praise and glory of his name, for our good and the good of all his holy Church.
Apostle’s Creed
I believe in God, the Father almighty, Creator of heaven and earth, and in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord,
(bow) who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died and was buried; he descended into hell; on the third day he rose again from the dead; he ascended into heaven,
and is seated at the right hand of God the Father almighty; from there he will come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit,
the Holy Catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body
and life everlasting. Amen.
God So Loved the World
Prayer over the Offerings “Through the Passion of your Only Begotten Son, O Lord, may our reconciliation with you be near at hand, so that, though we do not merit it by our own deeds, yet by this sacrifice made once for all, we may feel already the effects of your mercy. Through Christ our Lord.” Amen.
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name; thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. “Deliver us, Lord, we pray, from every evil, graciously grant us peace in our days, that by the help of your mercy we may be always free from sin and safe from all distress as we wait upon the blessed hope and the coming of our Savior, Jesus Christ. For the kingdom, the power and the glory are yours now and for ever. “Lord Jesus Christ, you said to your Apostles: Peace I leave you, my peace I give you, look not on our sins, but on the faith of your Church, and graciously grant her peace and unity in accordance with your will. Who live and reign for ever and ever.” Amen. “The peace of the Lord be with you always.” And with your Spirit. “Let us offer each other the sign of peace.”
“Behold the Lamb of God, behold him who takes away the sins of the world. Blessed are those called to the supper of the Lamb.” Lord, I am not worthy that you should enter under my roof, but only say the word and my soul shall be healed.
SANCTUS
THE MYSTERY OF FAITH
AMEN
LAMB OF GOD
After everyone has received communion and after the
Blessed Sacrament is reserved in the Tabernacle, you may be seated or kneel for a time of quiet prayer.
Communion Hymn
Concluding Rites
“The Lord be with you.” And with your spirit.
“May almighty God bless you, the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit”
Amen.
Prayer After Communion
“Nourished with these sacred gifts, we humbly
beseech you, O Lord, that, just as through the death of your Son you have brought
us to hope for what we believe, so by his
Resurrection you may lead us
to where you call. Through Christ our Lord.”
Amen.

From our Pastor Jesus entered Jerusalem as a king the way prophet Zechariah said he would – on a mule-with humility and weakness. Jesus does not take possession of the Holy City in a worldly way like a warrior charging into Jerusalem. Place your Palms in a prominent place in your homes- Reflect on how they remind us how we have played the role of Peter in our own lives, lying and denying. That we have played the role of John: abandoning. That we have played the role of all the rest- arguing about who among us is the greatest- And here comes the Good News- The Joy of the Gospel- they remind us of the miracle of reconciliation-by reminding us of that great meal we celebrate together in which Jesus told us- I am among you as one who serves and the words he spoke to the thieves crucified on either side of him- Today you will be with me in Paradise. Of all the people on earth, of all the people who ever were and are and will be, how astounding, how incredible that the one appointed to bear all ills, to carry all wounds, to stand for all, to be sacrificed and resurrected, to be both king of pain and prince of light, should be a thin wood-worker, the son of a carpenter, a most devout and committed Jew. May you have a Blessed and Prayerful Holy Week, reflecting on the Passion of Our Lord! Mary Queen of Peace: Pray for Us
