Saint Joseph Parish Saint Joseph Parish Palm Sunday of there Passion of the Lord - Year II, Cycle C

“Father, forgive them, they know not what they do.”

Today we celebrate Palm Sunday of the Passion of the Lord and we commemorate the triumphant entry

into Jerusalem. We join the crowds in welcoming the Son of David, singing Hosannah. Then we experience the passion and death of Jesus, walking with Him from the moment He is condemned to death until His last breath on the cross. Palm Sunday marks our entry into the holiest of days in our liturgical year. We reach today the climax of our Lenten journey entering the mystery of Paschal Mystery. It is our hope that through the forty day Lenten practices of prayer, almsgiving, fasting and abstaining, we have brought our life in closer conformity to that of Jesus. We open ourselves more in experiencing the selfless sacrifice and love of Christ to save the world.

We hear Jesus today speak the words, “Father, forgive them, they know not what they do.” It is perhaps important for us to take time to reflect on the deeper meaning of Jesus’ passion and death in order to understand the joy and glory of the resurrection. We cannot appreciate Jesus rising from the death if we ignore His walk on Calvary and dying on the cross. Therefore, this year especially if we have never done so I ask we experience the Easter Tritium, that is the Thursday Mass of the Lord’s Supper, the Good Friday of the Lord’s Passion, and the Saturday Easter Vigil. Walking with Jesus through these days can bring us to understand why He still had the love and capacity to forgive.

Please check the bulletin for the schedule of our Holy Week Liturgies. We hope that you have received the Easter Letter we sent and again consider being generous to our parish. God bless! Father Brian

Padre Brian

Saint Joseph Parish Will You Help Us Decorate for Easter?

Our Environment & Art Committee is gladly accepting your donations of flowers for our Easter celebration. Please place your flowers in the provided areas in our Renwald Room from Palm Sunday through Good Friday, we will also have a special table set up for those of you who would like to remember or dedicate your donation in a loved one’s name by attaching a small card to the plant. We are asking especially for Easter Lilies, Calla Lilies, and greenery, but all spring flowers, cut or planted, will be very much appreciated. Please join us to decorate our church Holy Saturday morning at 9:00am.

All are welcome, and there’s something for everyone; from arranging flowers, ironing linens, vacuuming, polishing furniture, to cleaning windows. This a great opportunity for student service hours! We thank you always for your generosity, and we wish you a very joyful Easter season. God bless you.

Jubilee Year of Mercy March 20, 2016

Palm Sunday of the Lord’s Passion Misericordiae Vultus: The Face of Mercy is Pope

Francis’ official decree announcing this Jubilee Y ear of Mercy. But Francis had already declared that Jesus “has shown the face of God’s mercy” back in 2013 on his first Palm Sunday as pope. Francis described Luke’s account of Jesus’ entrance into Jerusalem: “Crowds, celebrating, praise, blessing, peace: joy fills the air. Jesus has awakened great hopes, especially in the hearts of the simple, the humble, the poor, the forgotten, those who do not matter in the eyes of the world. He understands human sufferings . . . has bent down to heal body and soul.” Entering Jerusalem, Jesus looks at all of us with love, Francis continued, at our sicknesses and sins. “A beautiful scene, full of light—the light of the love of Jesus” (Pope Francis, Palm Sunday homily, March 24, 2013). May this Jubilee Year’s Holy Week and Triduum make us Jesus’ own light-bearers and love-givers to all who long to see the Face of Mercy.

—Peter Scagnelli, Copyright © J.
