THIS EUCHARISTIC FEAST Some things about human nature don’t change, even over the course of centuries. When we celebrate a holiday, we have a meal; when we celebrate a significant event, we have a feast. In today’s first reading, Lady Wisdom is se ng a feast, a sign of celebra ng the covenant that Israel has with God. Israel’s central remembrance of its saving Exodus covenant is the Passover meal. So it is natural—and not coincidental—that the Chris an celebra on of the new covenant sealed by the blood of Christ on the cross happens at a meal, our Eucharist, offered first by Jesus in the context of Passover remem-brance. It is easy for us, some mes, to forget the very long and rich religious and human origins of our eucharis c feas ng on the bread and cup that are the Body and Blood of Jesus. Today, and for the next few Sundays that we hear the “Bread of Life” discourse from John, let us bring to mind the loving covenant that God makes with us, and be filled with great joy at this marvel-ous feast that we have come to a end! Jezi Kri te ofri Ekaris a an premye nan komem-orasyon fèt Pak la. Pafwa li fasil pou nou bliye richès relijye ak orijin imen fèt Ekaris nou an ,ki nan pen ak diven ki se kò ak san Jezi Kri. Jodia, ak nan Di-manch kap vini yo nou gen pou nou tande Jan ki ap pale sou “Pen Lavi a”, an nou sonje alyans Granmèt la fè avèk nou, an nou ranpli kè nou ak anpil kon-tantman nan bèl fèt sa ke nou vini pa sipe ladan ‘l lan!

Stewardship – “Watch carefully then how you live, not as foolish persons but as wise…” EPHESIANS 5:15 A wise person recognizes that all we have and all we are comes from God. A wise person thanks God con nually throughout the day for all His many blessings. A wise person realizes that God has blessed us for a reason and that He wants us to help Him build His kingdom of earth.

Invest just fifteen minutes a day in prayer, and your faith will deepen and grow—a day at a time.

Envesti kenz minit sèlman chak jou nan lapriyè, epi gade wa wè jan lafwa w ap vinn apwofondi, ap grandi, yon jou alafwa.

LECTURAS PARA HOY: Proverbios 9:1-6; Efesios 5:15-20; Juan 6:51-58 (119).

Sunday, Aug 19, 2018 TWENTIETH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME Smart eating It doesn’t take our annual physical to remind us that we live in a culture of unhealthy eating. What used to be a matter of consuming enough calories for survival has become a national epidemic of obesity. It is tempting to eat when happy or sad, in gatherings or alone, to fight boredom, lift moods, or assuage anxiety. A lot of what appears in our diets isn’t even useful for nutrition, and some of it’s downright harmful. One thing’s for sure: Eu-charist is the one meal we can’t do without. Better than smart food, it’s the table where wisdom and joy is served.

TODAY'S READINGS: Proverbs 9:1-6; Ephesians 5:15-20; John 6:51-58 (119). “[Wisdom] has dressed her meat, mixed her wine, yes, she has spread her table.”

Dimanch 19 Out, 2018 VENTYÈM DIMANCH TAN SENP B Manje yon fason entelijan Nou pa bezwen egzamen fizik chak ane pou nou sonje ke nou ap viv nan yon kilti kote nou pa alimante kò nou byen. Bezwen pou nou manje ase kalori pou nou viv tounen yon epdemi -obèz. Nou genyen yon tantasyon pou nou manje lè nou kontan ou byen tris, nan rasebleman ou byen pou kont nou, pou nou goumen ak anwui nou, pou chanje atitid nou, ou pou nou apeze enkyetid nou.

viv san li. Pi bon pase “manje entelijan”, tab sa se bon konprann ak kè kontan yo sèvi sou li sèlman. LEKTI JODIA: Pwovèb 9:1-6, Efezyen 5:15-20; Jan 6:51-58 (119). “[Bon konpran] pare yon bon vyann li fè bon kopoze ak diven, wi, li ranje tab la byen ranje.”

PARKING LOT CHARITY AND COURTESY Please be mindful when parking your car There is always plenty of parking available around the church and under the bridge. “Fire Lanes” are exactly THAT. There are lanes to be left open for an emergency for Fire or Emergency vehicles. Fire lanes are not park-ing lanes. Cars parked in a fire lane can be towed accord-ing to code. We have not enforced this hoping for common sense and courtesy. However, we may have to do this for emergency safety sake. Please park under the bridge when the regular parking places around the church are all taken up. Thank you for your charity and for your courtesy in this very important matter.

CHARITABLE GIFTS “How shall I make a return to the Lord for all he has done for me?” Psalm 116:12 As we are examining our lives it is a good time to also ex-amine all we own. Do we need the clean house? Do you own something you no longer need but could help the Church? That something may be an old life insurance poli-cy. You can give your no longer needed insurance policies to St. James Catholic Church. If the policy has a cash val-ue, you may also get a tax deduction. Contact the rectory or call the Office of Planned Giving at (305)762-1110
