Twentieth Sunday in Ordinary Time
God’s grace and mercy are promised to all. The readings today wrestle with the questions of who is in and who is out. When it comes to God’s grace, who will receive it? We learn that all who accept the gift of faith are incorporated into the covenant relationship with God.
Dear Friends, As you know, the Archdiocese of Boston operates a number of charitable and social ministries. Aside from gifts directed to particular programs, most of them are funded by the Annual Catholic Appeal every spring. Like most parishes, we were scheduled to launch the appeal in late March but had to cancel because of the coronavirus shutdown. As is the case with many charitable enterprises the pandemic has hurt fundraising but the demands for assistance are increasing. While we will not conduct the traditional in-church appeal this year we are launching a virtual appeal beginning next weekend. Some parishioners have already contributed, primarily those who received a letter in the spring and directly replied. Thank you for your generosity. Such gifts have sustained the good work of these venerable organizations. I occasionally hear from those who state that they will support the parish but not the diocese. That is a false distinction. We are all part of the same Church. That unity is underscored during the Eucharistic Prayers as together we pray for our Holy Father and bishop by name. Importantly, the many good works this effort supports best function at a diocesan and not a parish scale. Please be generous to the appeal. Thank you for your consideration and generosity. In Christ,

The 28th Annual Pope St. John XXIII National Seminary Golf Tournament is scheduled for Monday, August 31st, at The Weston Golf Club. This premier charity event is held to benefit the educational program for the seminarians. Tuition covers only half the cost of educating a seminarian and the proceeds from this tournament will help bridge the gap and keep the cost of educating them affordable. Saturday, August 15 The Feast of the Assumption
Because it falls on a Saturday this year, the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, is not a Holy Day of Obligation. The 4pm Mass we will celebrate on August 15 is the Vigil Mass for the 20th Sunday in Ordinary Time.
Even in the midst of a global pandemic, service to others remains core to the work of our Church. Anointing the sick. Serving our faith communities. Supporting our schools. And so much more.
