Weekly Parish Holy Hour Wednesdays 7pm

Using the Miraculous Medal NovenaBegins with Exposition

of the Blessed Sacrament and the Rosary Benediction will follow at the end of the Holy Hour

Dear Folks, Today is October 4th, the feast of St. Fran-cis of Assisi. All are invited to bring their pets to be blessed at 3:00 PM to day. Please gather at the bottom of the steps in front of the church. Please note the weekly Miraculous Medal Novena will take place in the Church at 7PM. Confessions follow at 8PM. All are encouraged to join us. There is plenty to pray starting with our little home in the hills of Loudoun County. Collegians in the stress of their studies. Parents in the stress of viable employment fracturing their hearts and souls. Folks suffering from various physiological afflictions who feel they may have a bull’s-eye on their chest with the Coronavirus 19 running wild. Stresses to marriages, single life… and that includes the high school kids and their sweet-hearts trying to get through the isolation period when they should be developing their communication skills with a live human being. For every ave that is needed there is more than enough threats from the World, the Flesh, and the Devil. The weekly novena might a good place to take the spouse after a quiet dinner at Chick Fil A or meet the girl you would have taken to the home- coming that will never happen. Please join us. The other day one of the mothers of the parish asked for consider-ation of a parish program for the Family Consecration. Sounds like a great idea. Please stay tuned, more details to come. Just a note to remind everyone that the elections are coming up. Please vote… you know. Also please pray for the process that will involve the determination of the next “controversial” recommendation for a justice in the Supreme Court… you know. I very much commend Rev. Franklin Graham for his Prayer March on Washington this past weekend. It was a beautiful event with many thousands of prayer war-riors, some carrying papal flags. It’s too bad it didn’t get much coverage from the media. But … you know. Every vote in this election is going to be needed… you know. Many thanks to Mrs. Kim Livaudais and Mrs. Janice Rees for helping open the doors for the CCD program this past week. They have been working morning, noon, and night for the past month and a half to prepare for the opening of class… honoring the rules of compliance required by the diocese. With them you just have to love all our volun-teers. There are none better. God bless every one of them. It is so nice to be back. Let us pray for one another. Just a note to inform you that a recent review was performed by the diocesan offices on the parish plant of St. Francis De Sales and our need to address certain problems. The report was extensive and will be provided in one of my upcoming Parish Letters. One of the most im-portant concerns, of security, lies in the fact that the Church is left open twenty four hours a day. In three weeks’ time, Sunday October 18th the church doors will lock down each night at 9PM and open at 5:45 AM. Fobs/cards will be offered for those in the adoration society who will enter the church during the night. You need only swipe the card/fob over the electric eye adjacent to the right set of doors at the entrance of the church. The green light will indicate the locking mechanism has been released. To attain an electric fob you need only drop a note in the Sunday collection basket. Please address it to “Mrs. Leslie Sheldon.” You will need to provide your name, telephone number, and E-Mail. Fobs will only be provided to parishioners. She will send your fob by mail. In this fancy age of high tech security the computers will be able to identify whose fob used the electric entrance to the church and what time and day they entered. And that is just the beginning. Please stay tuned.

Collegiate Answer: William Shakespeare wrote just over 160 Sonnets that complimented his plays and poetry. Psalm number 85 is one of my favorites: “Lilies that fester smell far worse than weeds.” It means when good people do bad things the sin they perform is so much more dark and onerous then people who have a long term habit of vice. Collegiate Question: Amy Coney Barrett is the mother of seven children, including one with learning disabilities and two adopted from Haiti. Where is Haiti anyway? That is too easy. Which Jewish politician had the insen-sitivity to question her fitness to be a Supreme Court Justice due to her (church) “dogmas?” Ouch! And what political party in mid-20th century Europe had the in-sensitivity to force Jews to wear a Star of David in public because they questioned their law and prophets? Ouch! They were truly dark days for God and man of whom many millions of people died. We pray they never come back. Go Amy!! Go!! Sorry, I digress… you know.

Religious Education Calendar

Dear Parents,

We are excited to open the doors once again this weekend to our students in all religious education classes, beginning this Sunday at 10:30 am; Monday and Wednesday classes are scheduled to begin at 4:45 pm. 250 children are attending classes in the Educa-tion Center, with 175 children who have chosen our homeschool-ing option this year.

Father Gould and Father Heisler are excited to work with the high school students in the parish; 49 students are now registered for the Sunday and Monday classes. Parents…there’s room for all, so please register your high schoolers if you haven’t done so.

We are blessed with a dedicated group of volunteer catechists who met last Saturday for Mass, recitation of their Oath of Fidel-ity, and an orientation in the Education Center with Father Gould. We are all very eager to meet your children, and help you with the important work of their formation in the Faith.

All families who have chosen in-class instruction: Please make sure that you have turned in the required participation waiver that is available on the St. Francis website. By signing this waiver, parents agree to perform a nine-question health screening before each class session.

Our re-opening guidelines for parents are available on the website, and outline our change in drop-off and pick-up procedures this year. I will go over this along with other policies and procedures for the year at a very brief parent meeting on the first day of class. Please check your email for details about this meeting.

I look forward to sharing more about the wonderful work our catechists are doing with the children throughout the year…so stay tuned!

with prayers for all as we begin again,

Kim LivaudaisDirector of Religious Education

PLEASE NOTE! It is not too late your register your children! All Wednesday classes, with the exception of 8th grade, have been cancelled. 8th Grade on Sunday is full.

Another burger and hot dogs “picnic” meal was delivered last Thursday to Leesburg Shelter, I was told it is one of their favorite meals! We will change to more hearty substantial oven casseroles for the Fall through Winter months. When we take the amount of food that we ask for, it is to feed the residents living there now, but also for the “Drop In” folks. Those are the truly homeless who are allowed into the building for only two hours a day, to shower, do laun-dry and eat. We make sure to always help with good food for them as well. If you are aware of the shelter’s location, you can see that it is not the easiest place to get to. Therefore, again and again we so appreciate your generos-ity and caring for those Brothers and Sisters in need. Doing things for others is a choice that so many of you make, month after month, thank you!

Leesburg Life Chain Join fellow pro-lifers on October 4 for the Leesburg Life Chain at 2 PM on King Street in Leesburg adjacent to St John the Apostle. Signs are provided though bringing your own is great too. This is a wonderful opportunity to transition from the pew to the sidewalk advocating for the unborn. No ath-letic achievements required; we spread out, trying to cover as many blocks as possible to create a sense of volume, and testify quietly and prayerfully. 1600 Life Chains are held con-currently across the nation; a long chain is more likely to cre-ate serious conversation for passing motorists as little Melissa in the back seat queries Daddy-driver on what those signs are about. Block upon block coverage requires folks who care, so please attend. We will wrap up at 3:20 with a group picture. Grandma can bring a chair and hold the little one.

RCIA- Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults A walk through the RCIA ProcessHow does our parish attract inquirers who consider becoming Catholic? The short answer is you! When any parish has many inquirers year after year, it is the fruit of the Holy Spirit as parish members open their hearts to welcome others. Members of a welcoming and evangelizing community take seriously their call to share the Divine message of salvation. It happens in parish families, in the work-place, in gatherings with friends and neighbors, and in daily contacts. Give thanks to God as he continuously strengthens each of us who seek to do his will in offer-ing a gentle, humble, and clear welcome to the Catho-lic faith. “Go out into the whole world and proclaim the Gospel to every creature.” (Mark 16:15).If you would like to learn more about the Catholic faith, contact Travis Moger at [email protected] are held on Tuesday evenings at 7pm. Classes will be via ZOOM format initially.

BLESSING OF THE ANIMALS - TODAY!!Please remind your little creatures of God that we will have the blessing of animals today, the Feast of St. Francis of As-sisi. We will meet in front of the Church, at the bottom of the stairs, at 3pm. All are welcome. Please invite the neighbors too. Bring beasts of all kinds, great and small alike, for the annual blessing.

Morning Bible Study GroupWe will be studying The Mystery of the Eucharist. Both men and women are encouraged to sign up for this group. This is a really powerful study that will change the way you view and receive the Eucharist. Consider this, the last time many of us learned anything about the Real Presence, we were just seven years old. The Body of Christ has so much to offer us. We should be very aware of this amazing gift we receive each week. This study pro-vides the opportunity for us to grow in our faith as well as meet other parishioners that want the same. The study begins on Wednesday, October 7 and will meet for 8 weeks on Wednesday mornings from 10 -11:30am. If you are interested, please contact Jeanne Lamana at jeannelamana@ gmail.com

Women's Study GroupWe will be studying and reading Saint Teresa of Avila's The Interior Castle. St.Teresa grieved that most people give all their attention to the outer walls of the castle - their body - ignoring and neglecting the beauty of the soul within. Saint Theresa gives practical advice regarding our inner struggles and urges us for-ward through prayer to each of the seven rooms of the castle and deeper into the heart of the center room to the seat of the King, our Divine Majesty. Saint Theresa believed that progress toward God through prayer is worth vastly more than all the treasures on earth. If you are looking to meet women who like you are seeking the heart and will of God, I urge you to consider joining the Women's Study Group. This study begins on Tuesday September 29th and will meet for 9 weeks on Tuesday evenings from 7 - 8:30pm.If you are interested, please contact Jeanne Lamana at [email protected]

The Legion of Mary Our Lady of Victory Praesidium The Spirit of the Legion of Mary is Mary HerselfVisit and Pray with the Legion of Mary! All adults registered in the parish are invited to join us as a guest at our Tuesday night meetings at 7pm, now moved to Knights Hall. This month, we are praying for. sick fam-ily members and their caregivers. Please take a rosary from the basket on the Legion of Mary table in the nar-thex under Our Lady of Guadalupe. All parishioners are invited to pray the Angelus at noon every day with the Legion of Mary for our parish. Cannot join us...then be assured that we are praying for YOU every day!

The AngelusThe Angel of the Lord declared to Mary: And she conceived of the Holy Spirit.

Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee; blessed art thou among women and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the

hour of our death. Amen.Behold the handmaid of the Lord: Be it done unto me according to Thy word.

Hail Mary...And the Word was made Flesh: And dwelt among us.

Hail Mary...Pray for us, O Holy Mother of God, that we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ.

Let us pray:Pour forth, we beseech Thee, O Lord, Thy grace into our hearts; that we, to whom the incar-nation of Christ, Thy Son, was made known by the message of an angel, may by His Passion and Cross be brought to the glory of His Resurrection, through the same Christ Our Lord.

Amen.‘Hail, full of grace, the Lord is with you’ (Lk 1: 28)

‘Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb’(Lk 1: 42).

The Angelus can be prayed any time and from wherever you are. Intentions of the Angelus are for our parish and for an increaes in vocations. The Pilgrim Virgin is making her next stop in the Church for the entire month of October which is the month of the Holy Rosary! Please take some time to visit and venerate our parish Pilgrim Virgin. Stay and pray a decade or two...or more! She has been busy visiting homes and blessing families with peace, small miracles and answered prayers. ..please sign up online for your own Pilgrim Virgin Visitation after the month of October.
