Annual energy savings of approximately $79,000 are projected by RISE Engineering for projects Saint Elizabeth Community has undertaken. “Saint Elizabeth Community has looked to RISE Engineering to assist us in reducing our operating costs by enacting projects that reduce our energy usage,” says Radican. RISE carried out a variety of projects at several of our locations. Projects included lighting upgrades, insulation upgrades, programmable thermostats, hot water conservation, and the installation of variable speed pumps. In total the projects were valued at $285,000. RISE estimates the savings to our various sites to be $79,000 per year. Reviewing how we can do things more efficiently at a lower cost is ongoing. “The latest project being evaluated is to replace the city water pressure boost system at Saint Elizabeth Place,” says Radican. At the CareLink 20th Anniversary Celebration founding members Roberta Merkle, Steven J. Horowitz and Maryann Altrui are recognized by Joan Kwiatkowski, CareLink CEO.

Dear Friends:

I hope that you had a wonderful summer. Our photos on Facebook, and in the center of this newsletter show how those in our care take in the joys of living in The Ocean State.

Throughout the year, we work to support meaningful life, and do so by engaging with those in our care and in our community by getting to know the individuals we are entrusted to support. We do this while working to provide compassionate, exceptional care. Behind the scenes staff members serve on committees, participate in team meetings, and take advantage of employee education with a goal to achieve our mission.

Congratulations to CareLink on its 20th anniversary! CareLink (www.carelinkcollaborative.org ) is a not for profit

collaborative working to provide post-acute care solutions to RI

seniors. Saint Elizabeth Community is a founding member of CareLink. Also congratulations to Cathleen Naughton Associates, for achieving JCAHO Accreditation for the 15th year in a row, and to Saint Elizabeth Manor’s Day Care for its recent NAEYC accreditation. Additionally, I am so proud of the 5 star rating that Saint Elizabeth Home was awarded by the RI Department of Health, especially while opening four GREEN HOUSE® Homes; and they are at 100% occupancy!!!

It has been a year full of hard work and change. As ever, we are moving forward in a mission driven way, seeking to meet the needs of RI seniors, and expand the offerings we provide to meet those needs. Our capital campaign is on target and we just hosted another successful Rose Bids Auction and Gala, thanks to the countless volunteers and donors who make this fundraiser possible.

I thank you for your continued support of our organization and look forward to our continued growth.

Sincerely,

Steven J. HorowitzPresident and CEO

Life in THE GREEN HOUSE® Homesat Saint Elizabeth Home

“My mom could be the poster child for THE GREEN HOUSE®

Home model of care! She seems very content and her appetite

has improved so much she may need a new wardrobe! The care

heartwarming.” - Kathie Giorgi

Mirror Collective Connects GenerationsThis summer, Saint Elizabeth Court residents volunteered to pair up with local high school students to take part in The Mirror Collective, an exciting arts collaboration initiated by REVEL Factory, the non-profit arm of TEN31 Productions. The main objective of the project was to connect the generations through participation in a creative experience.

Over the course of six weeks, Saint Elizabeth Court seniors shared their life stories with their young partners. The conversations were lively and many fond relationships were established. Resident Ruth Mumford said, “My student, Liz, was the nicest girl. We really clicked and Iloved talking with her.” Once familiar with the resident backgrounds, the students created a piece of art based on the memories and stories shared. Some of the great moments of Ruth Mumford’s life were performed in a dance/theater piece. Jennie Giannini’s life was portrayed in a beautiful

song, while Annie Frechette’s sense of humor was interpreted through art and animation. Stylized illustrations captured Elaine Isom’s personal history, and Ray Mahon’s life storybecame a mini one man show. The final projects, each as unique as the participants and partners, were presented at Saint Elizabeth Court’s annual Family Night, followed by a public showcase at REVEL Factory.

Cornerstone Participants Reach Out to Homebound

Participants at Cornerstone’s Memory Care Center have been busy making birthday bags for homebound seniors served by West Bay Community Action. The gift bags are filled with thoughtful items made by participants – hand sewn eyeglass and pocket tissue cases, lavender sachets, braided fabric coasters, colorful bookmarks, and water color painted greeting cards.

More than 70 of the cheery birthday bags are ready for West Bay Case Managers to distribute

to their clients. The project has been a delight for the Cornerstone participants and plans are to continue the service project through the end of the year.

Complete the four requirements before the end of 2017 to see a reduction in your health insurance cost.
