• Worm - A computer worm is a self-replicating computer program. It uses a network to send copies of itself to other computers

• Trojans - a class of computer threat that appears to perform a desirable function but in fact performs undisclosed malicious functions. They can be easily and unwittingly downloaded.

• For example, if a computer game is designed such that, when started by the user, it opens a back door that allows a hacker to control the computer of the user, then the computer game is said to be a Trojan horse.

• A lot of the illegal programs on Pirate sites, are infected with Trojans.

• Firewall - a security system consisting of a combination of hardware and software that limits the exposure of a computer or computer network to attack from crackers; commonly used on local area networks that are connected to the internet.

• If you have broadband the router provided will protect you from anyone coming in directly from the internet.

• You need to ensure that your computer is protected to stop any unwanted programs from accessing the information that is on it.

• If you wish to access the internet safely then the minimum you will need is a good free antivirus package to stop unwanted programs being downloaded onto your computer. We recommend AVG
