Collaborative News Easter Collection 2018: Clergy

Health & Retirement Trust Next week, our Easter collection will once again benefit the Clergy Health and Retirement Trust which cares for the health and well-being of our priests. Our priests are always there for us, shar ing Chr ist’s good news, performing good works, and building communities of good faith. All are welcome to learn more and make a gift online at clergytrust.org or you can donate $25 through your cell phone by texting the word PRIEST25 to 20222 (message & data rates may apply). And don’t forget to find and follow the Trust on Facebook by searching “@ClergyTrust.” Our priests thank you for your prayers and support.

Easter Flowers If you would like to make a donation toward the cost of the flowers that will be used to decorate the altar for Easter, in memory of a deceased relative or friend, please print the names clearly and bring them to the parish office with your donation or place them in the collection basket. All names will be remembered in a memorial

booklet, which will be distributed Easter Sunday. Donations will be accepted through 12:00 Noon on Wednesday, March 28th.

Catholic Appeal Thank you to all who have participated in our Collaborative’s 2018 Catholic Appeal campaign. Through the generosity of Catholics like you, the Catholic Appeal strengthens the ministries that serve our Archdiocese and helps us to live our faith together. To make a pledge to the Catholic Appeal, please visit bostoncatholicappeal.org or pick up a pledge form at the back of the church. Thank you for your prayers and support.

Divine Mercy Sunday The Sunday after Easter, April 8, is Divine Mercy Sunday. It is a wonderful celebration of God’s perfect love and mercy for us. To celebrate the feast, we will be having a special time of prayer and adoration that afternoon at Sacred Heart Parish. Beginning at 3pm, the hour of mercy, we will have adoration of the

Blessed Sacrament, the Divine Mercy Chaplet, a reading from the Diary of St. Faustina, and a brief reflection by Fr. Adrian. The celebration will conclude at 4:15 with benediction and then Fr. Adrian will be available for anybody who would like to receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation. Hope to see you there.

The Light is on for You Spend Wednesday evenings in prayer this Lent, and deepen your relationship with Jesus Christ. All are welcome to a time of Taize Musical Prayer, Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament, and the opportunity for the Sacrament of Reconciliation at Sacred Heart (Lower Church) on March 28th, 6:30-8:00pm. Questions? Contact Brian at [email protected].

March 25 ~ Palm Sunday of the Lord’s Passion

Even though we know how today’s scripture ends, can we listen and ponder as if we are hearing it for the first time? “…at the name of Jesus every knee should bend, of those in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.” Do your words confess that Jesus is Lord? Are we ready and willing to share Christ’s extraordinary love for us with others? Trust that the Lord will give us well-trained tongues, that we might know how to speak to the weary a word that will rouse them. Then, invite someone to join you next week for Easter Mass.

Refugee Job Search The father of our refugee family, Mujahid Komi, has now begun his search for a job with the assistance of Jewish Vocational Services (JVS). He is looking for an entry level job which does not require English fluency and is reachable by the MBTA from home in Roxbury. We ask parishioners who know of possible opportunities to send our employment team a brief description of the opportunity, its location, and contact information for the employer (preferably a name and telephone number) via Peter Metz at [email protected] or 339-777-5144. We will pass this information on to JVS who will call the employer to inquire about the details and to set up an interview, if appropriate. Thank you!

Cursillo Cursillo is a short course in Christianity. It is an encounter with Christ in a small community of the Church, in order to deepen your own faith and strengthen your ability to be a witness of Christ in the world. The next weekend, for Men, is April 26-29.

The weekends run from Thursday evening through Sunday afternoon and are held at the Campion Center in Weston. For information and registration, please check the Boston Cursillo Website bostoncursillo.org or contact Chris Graf at 617-332-5548 or [email protected].

Meeting Christ in Prayer Meeting Christ in Prayer is an eight-week guided prayer experience based on the Spiritual Exercises of Saint Ignatius Loyola. The Meeting Christ in Prayer group meets once a week for eight weeks with Sister Anne D’Arcy. Participants pray with suggested scripture texts daily. The group will meet at Fontbonne Convent, 444 Centre Street, Milton, MA on Wednesday evenings, 7:00-8:00pm, through April 11. For further information or to register, call 617-433-5065 or email Anne.D’Arcy@csjboston.

From Fr. Dan, Administrator

Dear Friends,

Yes, Jesus feels this way about you. Picture Jesus in your mind, relating to you this way. “Jesus, you are a friend at my side. Jesus, your eyes look upon me with affection. Jesus, you listen to me and you understand me. Jesus, you speak words to me that build me up. Jesus, your touch makes me feel so cared for. Jesus, you are my best friend, always at my side.” (Loosely adapted from St. Patrick.)

Among the many good things I’ve enjoyed here recently: “Soup and Stations” was delicious and then deeply moving. The Sunday noon Mass is so well attended we need to ask folks to move in. Welcoming new folks. Talking with seniors who were born in our parishes, or have lived here a long time.

“Only love can set us free. Jesus is sent to show us how God loves us, and he shows this in the most direct way. No one can show a greater love than the one who gives his life for the ones he loves. Such is what Jesus did for us.” --Fr. Wilfrid Stinissen, S.J.

Welcome friends! Whether you are here every week, or not so often, you are warmly welcomed at Sacred Heart and Our Lady’s.

It is College Admissions time. Blessings and

best wishes to high school seniors and their families.

Holy Week is “March Magnificence.” (Plus April 1st = Easter). It is even better than NCAA “March Madness.” Please come and enjoy the spiritual growth from Holy Thursday, Good Friday and Easter.

People are counting on us to let them know about Easter. It can slip by folks and they really do want to come to Mass on Easter. Please spread the word to family, friends and acquaintances.

Humor: Q: Why was there thunder and lightning in the lab? A: The scientists were brainstorming!

Pope Francis: “Jesus understands our weaknesses and sins; and he forgives us if we allow ourselves to be forgiven.”

Sports Section: The Patr iots made a lot of changes. I’m going to miss Dion Lewis, but it is so cool that Devin McCourty will play alongside his twin brother! Can you believe the Red Sox open this Thursday in Tampa Bay? How are your college brackets after #1 Virginia got upset by 20 points!? Could Patrice Bergeron win the MVP for our Bruins?

Love and God bless you, Fr. Dan

We invite all parish bakers to contribute to the bake table and all eaters to purchase food items for the coffee hour and to take home. Some special items may even be frozen for Easter festivities. Potted plants (whatever varieties are freshest at the Flower Mart) will be perfect for Easter decoration in your homes or as gifts for family and friends. Think tulips and daffodils!

Start saving clothing and shoes/sneakers as you go through your bureaus and closets in preparation for the change of seasons. More details to follow as to items especially needed and the drop off dates. We are quite accustomed to the general items most needed by men and women who have no home, so put those items aside, wash them up, and/or freshen them up as you clean and sort. In addition, look for sales on spring clothing, especially socks and underwear, which should be new and in packages.

Family Sunday Please join us after the 9:00am Mass this weekend

for Coffee Hour in the MacKenzie Center. We will be making Easter cards for our homebound parishioners. Paper, crayons, and decorations will be provided.

Hope to see you there!

Care for Creation In his inaugural homily on the feast of St. Joseph,

protector of Mary, Jesus, and the Church, Pope Francis said, "Let us be 'protectors' of creation, protectors of God's plan inscribed in nature, protectors of one another and of the environment." March 19, 2013.

It's finally spring, time for gardening! One way to protect creation is by composting. You can save kitchen scraps and yard waste to form a rich compost to add to the soil in your vegetable or flower garden. Here are some tips offered by the City of Newton, which has inexpensive compost bins available: www.newtonma.gov/gov/dpw/recycling/composting/
