God’s Word Today... “This is enough, O Lord!”
How often has even the most dedicated believer echoed Elijah’s cry of despair, heard in today’s first reading? Elijah was frustrated and exhausted because the people refused to heed his prophetic words. We are all aware of friends or relatives who seem to have more than their share of misfortune. Perhaps we may be experiencing severe hardships as we come to Mass today. If this is the case, then we are in the right place. It is here that we, like Elijah, can find food that will sustain us, even when all life seems to offer us is frustration and misfortune. Jesus promises us today that he is the living bread. Let us be strengthened by the living bread that is God’s word. From Saint Margaret Sunday Missal, copyright © J. S. Paluch Co.

Stewardship Reflections ~ 19th Sunday in Ordinary Time: August 9, 2015 ~“Get up and eat, else the journey will be too long for
you!” (1 Kings 19:7) Jesus knew that the stewardship journey would be difficult, so He gave us the nourish-ment of the Eucharist. When we take time to join our sacrifices with the sacrifice of the Mass, we find the strength to give and joy in our giving.
WHAT IS A PARISH PASTORAL COUNCIL? A parish pastoral council is
the chief consultative body to the pastor. Consultation is a sharing of wisdom that enables the parish to carry out its mission. The pastoral council discerns issues that impact the lives of parishioners, prays, studies, and discusses those issues, and recommends practical ways of addressing them.
HOW DOES A PARISH PASTORAL COUNCIL OPERATE? A council meets once a month with the pastor to consider pastoral issues. It listens carefully to the concerns of the pastor, the parish staff and others involved in the life of the parish. Through prayer and discernment it searches for the guidance of the Holy Spirit and reaches decisions through consensus. Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish Pastoral Council meets the second Monday of each month from 7:00pm to 8:30 pm. Regular attendance at meetings is critical.
WHO SHOULD BE A MEMBER OF A PARISH PASTORAL COUNCIL? A council member should be at least of high school age, prayerful, care about the spiritual well-being of the entire community, be willing to learn about the universal Church, have a sense of mission: to bring Christ to people and people to Christ, and be involved in the life and activities of the parish. A council member must be prepared to make a sincere commitment and attend meetings consistently.
ALL THOSE INTERESTED IN SERVING ON OUR PARISH PASTORAL COUNCIL! It is necessary to attend the Information Meeting on Saturday, August 15, at 11:00 am in the Parish Life Center. We anticipate the meeting to last about an hour. It will also be necessary to attend the Parish Pastoral Council Discernment process on Saturday, August 22, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 pm in the Parish Life Center. Please prayerfully consider being a part of our Parish Pastoral Council.
Thank you! Your brother in Christ, Fr. Tom
