September 15, 2019 Twenty-fourth Sunday in Ordinary Time LOST AND FOUND Welcome to “Lost and Found Sunday”! Just in case being in church makes us proudly consider ourselves especially religious, today’s Gospel suggests that we’d be wiser to admit that we’re sometimes lost. Then we’ll eventually be happily counted among Jesus’ “found,” because today Jesus focuses on a lost sheep, lost coin, lost son. Jesus does so because the Pharisees and scribes, proudly considering themselves especially religious, “began to complain” that Jesus “welcomes sinners and eats with them.” So Jesus warns them—and us—to stop judging others. Marvel instead that God’s amazing grace has found us! Indeed, we should become Jesus’ friends lovingly trying to find others. So Exodus asks, if God “relented in punishment” and pardoned us, shouldn’t we forgive fellow sinners graciously? Even Paul admits his “arrogance” as “foremost among sinners.” We too, happy at being “mercifully treated,” should share with everyone else Jesus’ unfailing patience. Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co.

Andrew Kim Tae-gŏn and Paul Chŏng Ha-sang and Companions Saturday: St. Matthew TREASURES FROM OUR TRADITION Although New Year’s Day has been fixed firmly on January 1 for several hundred years, Labor Day has the feel of a great dividing line between leisure and routine. The pace of life has since picked up, and new schedules and commitments crowd us. In the background is God’s call to consider the third commandment, still life-giving and binding, to make holy the Lord’s Day by worship and rest. Jews see the Sabbath, Saturday, not so much as a day of worship, but as a day of rest, a day of renewing friendship with God by delighting in the beauty of creation and the joy of family and friends. It is a day for contemplating the wonder of God’s creation, but not disturbing it. For Christians in the first three centuries, the Lord’s Day, Sunday, was not for rest, but worship. It was a regular work day. People met before dawn, and after Eucharist hurried off to daily routines. Today we come to Mass, but many hurry off to essential work, not a day of rest. The Lord’s Day is not the Sabbath, but we can enhance Sunday’s ability to transform us if we consider embracing some Sabbath values: having a family meal, going for a walk in a beautiful place, making room in our lives to open ourselves more fully to holiness of life in Christ. —James Field, Copyright © J. 15 de septiembre de 2019 Vigésimo Cuarto Domingo del Tiempo Ordinario PERDIDO Y ENCONTRADO Bienvenido al “¡Domingo perdido y encontrado!” En caso de que al estar en la iglesia nos haga considerar sentirnos orgullos de ser religiosos, el Evangelio de hoy sugiere que sería más prudente admitir que algunas veces estamos perdidos. Para luego en última instancia estar felizmente contados entre los “encontrados” por Jesús, porque Jesús hoy se enfoca en una oveja perdida, una moneda perdida, un hijo perdido. Jesús lo hace porque los fariseos y escribas, que orgullosamente se consideran religiosos, “empiezan a quejarse” que Jesús “se reúne con pecadores y además come con ellos”. Jesús les advierte, y a nosotros también, dejar de juzgar a los demás. Por el contrario, ¡asómbrate de la extraordinaria gracia de Dios que nos ha encontrado! De hecho, debemos hacernos los amorosos amigos de Jesús tratando de buscar a otros. Así el Éxodo pide, si Dios “cedió en castigo” y nos perdonó, ¿no deberíamos perdonar con gracia a nuestros prójimos pecadores? Incluso Pablo admite su “arrogancia” como “el más importante entre los pecadores”. Este santo es reconocido como el amparo de los pobres, patrón de los emigrantes y ladrón del purgatorio. El concepto del purgatorio es un poco difícil de entender. La Iglesia adoptó la creencia en la última purificación de los elegidos (nombrado el Purgatorio) en los siglos XV y XVI en los concilios de Florencia y Trento. Ella se basa en las Escrituras que se refieren en la purificación en el fuego (1 Corintios 3:15; 1 Pedro 1:7) y en la práctica de la oración por los difuntos como aparece en 2 Macabeos 12:46 y Job 1:5. Bible study on the gospel of Luke in Spanish will commence on September 18th through October 23. Classes are held every Wednesday from 6:30 pm to 7:30 pm in the activity center. Cosas para recordar en la misa: 1. Ayunar durante una hora antes de recibir la Sagrada

Comunión. Las excepciones son medicamentos, agua o, a menos que alguien esté enfermo y necesite comer antes.

2. Momentos de enseñanza para que los niños aprendan a sentarse, arrodillarse, pararse y escuchar correc-tamente. También es un momento oportuno para ense-ñar a abstenerse de bocadillos y bebidas. Las excep-ciones serían leche para bebés, agua para el sacerdote o coro y enfermos.

3. Concéntrate en Dios y el silencio. Mantenga menos movimiento para menos distracción.

4. La goma de mascar es irrespetuosa. 5. Cruzarse con agua bendita al entrar y salir de la igle-

sia. Este es un recordatorio de nuestro Bautismo, que nos hizo miembros de la Iglesia de Cristo.

Vístase modestamente. Vístase de una manera que atestigüe su fe.

7. Ven temprano y permanece lo más cerca posible del altar.

8. Los teléfonos celulares están en modo silencioso. Ver-ificación de mensajes, llamadas o mensajes de texto puede esperar.

9. Los jóvenes deben ofrecer sus asientos a las embara-zadas, enfermas o de edad avanzada que estén de pie.

10. Cuando entremos y salgamos de la Iglesia, haga una genuflexión (doble la rodilla) hacia el Tabernáculo. Cristo está presente por nuestro bien. Al permitir que nuestra rodilla derecha golpee el piso, reconocemos que Él es nuestro Señor y Dios. Si alguien es física-mente incapaz de genuflexionar, entonces una rever-encia es suficiente. Durante la misa, si pasas frente al altar o tabernáculo, inclínate con reverencia.

11. Se les pide a los niños inquietos y al bebé que estén en la "sala del llanto".

12. Mantenga nuestros missalettes y himnarios alejados como juguetes para niños o fanáticos.

13. Ven a misa con tu ofrenda preparada. 14. Los boletines se leen antes o después de la misa. 15. Inclínate antes de recibir la Sagrada Comunión. 16. Solo aquellos que han hecho su Primera Comunión

deben hacer la línea de Comunión. 17. Responda a las respuestas de la Misa de manera sig-

nificativa. 18. Deje al final de la bendición final y el himno recesivo

que lo acompaña, si hay uno. 19. Ore después de la misa. Quédese unos minutos antes

de abandonar el banco. 20. Salir en silencio. Lo alentamos a visitar a otros como

parte de la comunión cristiana y es apropiado hacerlo fuera del santuario principal de la iglesia para respetar a los demás que desean quedarse y orar.
