Winter Health Newsletter
Its that time of year again! The snow is blowing the days are short
and there is a chill in the air. Sacred Garden Within wants to share
with you some tips, tricks and information on how you can keep
your immunity up and maintain your energy!
Reiki is a non invasive energy based technique that helps to re-establish the energy flow within a person’s spiritual centre. It also helps to
boost your immune system by giving your nervous system a much needed break. Due to the intense relaxation you undergo during a
treatment, your body has time to rest and recharge leaving it ready to fight any colds or flu that is lurking around you. Reiki is also an
effective treatment for anxiety and depression...feeling that “cabin fever” a Reiki session can definitely help reduce the anxiety behind it.
Reiki is just one form of energy healing out there others that you may find are Shamballa, Axiatonal Alignment, and more. Check out
energy healing techniques around you, use your intuition you will know what is right for your needs!

Get some sun! Try to go for a walk between 6 and 8 am to
get your daily dose of the sun....too cold to go out? Sit by a
window while you eat breakfast or having your morning
coffee/tea
Throughout the day keep all blinds and shades open to help
optimize your sun intake, if you can move around and stay in
the sunniest spots around you
Keep yourself on a regular schedule. Make sure you got to
bed and get up at the same time every day...even on
weekends to keep yourself rested and refreshed every
morning.
It’s important to eat lots of fresh fruit and vegetables
especially during the winter. Try to add raw fruits and
veggies to every meal.
Stick to a schedule for aerobic exercise, just 20 minutes a
day can make a bigger difference than you think! Don’t forget how much colour can affect your
mood....in the winter decorate your home and
workplace with a splash of colour to boost your
mood!
Decorate with sunny yellow throw pillows or
other accents to keep you feeling cheerful.
Keep indoor plants, having living plants around
you can boost you mood but especially
flowered plants because they can also add an
extra dash of colour to those winter days!

Echinacea: A versatile herb that has been used for many years
especially in Native culture where it was once used to heal wounds and
help with toothache. Take this herb as a preventative measure and to
support your immune system. Can use in tea, in capsule form-**note it is
in the same family as ragweed be cautious if you have allergies
Garlic: Known for its Antibacterial and Antiviral properties you can
easily add garlic to your meal at least once a day! Feeling under the
weather? Eat 2 cloves of garlic or take it in capsule form
Black Elderberry: Used in folk remedies all over the world, it is
known for antioxidant action and is not only an immune system booster
but can also help reduce cholesterol! High in Vitamin A, B and C you can
find elderberry in juices, tinctures, capsules and extracts!

Most of us know essential oils for their
wonderful aroma BUT these oils also have
properties that make them effective in our
day to day lives! Here are some great oils to
keep in a First Aid Kit at home!
Tea Tree- Antibacterial and AntiViral this oil
is great to use in a footbath, hand soaps and
as a disinfectant
Lavender- a versatile oil that can be used to
tend to minor cuts, scraps or bites and to ease
tension of headaches
Eucalyptus- great for respiratory conditions
and can clear a stuffy head! Simply add a few
drops to water and inhale this wonderful
essence
Rosemary- stimulant for the mind, helps to
boost memory and with mental fatigue. This
oil is great for hair health
Peppermint- eases nausea and indigestion,
reduces tension headache, and helps open the
respiratory tract.
To use your oils you can add them to a
carrier oil and rub them on sore spots, add a
few drops in a footbath or the bathtub (after
you are in the water). Lavender can be used
neat on the skin
