The Beginning

For my senior project, I raised over $1,000 to help the Sacred Dance team at St. Marks United Methodist Church. This group consists of about fourteen youth, including me, between the ages 12-18.

Greenery Sales

• I organized the sale of Holiday Greens through Sherwood Forest, a company that helps groups fundraise money.

• All the dance members participated by selling the greens to church and community members.

• We raised $1,204.

Old Dresses

• Our previous dresses were falling apart. They had been in use for almost ten years. They also did not fit all the dancers.

• The senior dancers, including myself, picked out dresses that would suit every body shape.

• We were able to buy 18 black dresses which will be used for many different dancers for years to come.

New Dresses

• Our new dresses truly made each dancer look good. This helped to boost the girls’ confidence and allowed us to dance better for the community.

• Each dress can be tied in many different ways, allowing for a new look for each dance.

Giving Back

• These new costumes help us to perform better. We feel better about ourselves and express ourselves better.

• We have gotten many more compliments about our dances from the church community since our purchase of the dresses.

Dance in Church

• Dance in church has a very long history. It has changed throughout the centuries. This dance group is trying to keep this tradition alive. We hope that our group will encourage other young people to dance and express themselves any way they can.
