Durin g periods of stron g n ega tive Southern Osc illa tion In dic es (El Nin o even ts), this period m a y com m en c e late Octob er. The en d of the critic a l fire season is often m arked b y wet storm a c tivity.

Effective prescrib ed b urn in g m a y n eed to b e con ducted on c e the “critic a l fire season ” a n d thun derstorm season is over. This is due to the L OW - MODERATE Overa ll Fuel Ha zard for m ost vegetation types. Prescrib ed b urn in g attem pted a fter a utum n ra in is un likely to b e effec tive.
