Leaning on the Everlasting Arms lyrics What a fellowship, what a joy divine, Leaning on the everlasting arms; What a blessedness, what a peace is mine, Leaning on the everlasting arms. Leaning, leaning, Safe and secure from all alarms; Leaning, leaning, Leaning on the everlasting arms. Oh, how sweet to walk in this pilgrim way, Leaning on the everlasting arms; Oh, how bright the path grows from day to day, Leaning on the everlasting arms. Leaning, leaning, Safe and secure from all alarms; Leaning, leaning, Leaning on the everlasting arms. What have I to dread, what have I to fear, Leaning on the everlasting arms; I have blessed peace with my Lord so near, Leaning on the everlasting arms. Leaning, leaning, Safe and secure from all alarms; Leaning, leaning, Leaning on the everlasting arms. spirit and truth. All: Teach us your ways and make straight our paths in this

hour of worship and always. Opening Prayer Don GroganO God, our guide and guardian, Your love and grace for us sustains

us on our many journeys toward the wholeness that you offer to us in Christ Jesus. We are grateful that you have led us here this morning to give thanks to you in community and worship you as we are continually being led home. Amen.

(please stand as the organ begins)

*Hymn No. 3 Holy, Holy, Holy! Lord God Almighty

Prayer of IlluminationLord God, you have declared that your kingdom is among us, that “home” is right here. Open our eyes to see it, our ears to hear it, our hearts to hold it, and our hands to serve it. This we pray in Jesus’ name. Amen.

Hebrew Scripture Reading Isaiah 11:1-9, p. 532

Choral Call to Confession Chancel Choir

Call to Confession Don GroganPrayer of ConfessionHoly God, hear our prayer. Sometimes our lives are a mess, because of choices we have made or because of choices others have made. Sometimes our lives are great, and we’re kind and generous. Sometimes our lives are great and we forget to be grateful and

humble. We trust that in the jumble of all of this, you are present. We trust that you are with us, walking with us when we stray, nudging us back to the right path, slowing us down when we get ahead of you, and waiting for us when we lag behind. So we thank you, and ask for your forgiveness, and pray that you will stay with us throughout the journey home. Amen. Declaration of Pardon

*Response Sung by CongregationGlory Be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost; As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen, Amen.

*Hymn No. 688 Savior, Like a Shepherd Lead Us

Anthem Leaning on the Everlasting Arms, Chancel Choir Bob Eubanks, director (lyrics on back)

New Testament Scripture John 14:1-6 Do not let your heart be troubled; have faith in God and have faith in me. In my Father’s house there are many places to rest. Would I otherwise have told you that I am going to make a place ready for you? And if I go and make a place ready for you, I am coming again and I will take you along with me, so that where I am you might be also. And you know the way to where I am going.” Thomas says to him, “Lord, we do not know where you are going. How do we know the way?” Jesus says to him, “I

am the way and the truth and the life; no one comes to the Father except through me.” Translation from The New Testament: A Translation by David Bentley Hart.

GIVE THANKS TO GOD

Offertory   Don Grogan *Doxology Praise God From Whom All Blessings Flow

The Celebration Hymnal, P. 815

*Affirmation of FaithWe believe that “home” feels like our hearts being full of love. When our hearts have butterflies inside them, then our hearts are full of love. When our hearts feel just like overflowing, then our hearts are full of love. Love is as fragile as our tears. Love is stronger than our

fears. When our hearts can sing another’s gladness, then our hearts are full of love. When our hearts can carry another’s sadness, then our hearts are full of love. Love is as fragile as our tears. Love is stronger than our fears. When our hearts beat for someone else, then our hearts are full of love. When our heart has room for everybody, then our hearts are full of love. We believe that “home” feels like our hearts being full of love, and we are each on the sacred journey home. *Adapted from Then Your Heart is Full of Love by Fred Rogers (Mister Rogers)

THE SACRAMENT OF HOLY COMMUNION

*Hymn No. 461 In Remembrance

The Invitation The sacrament of the Lord’s Supper is Christ’s gift to His church. This boundless gift is offered without regard to denominational affiliation, church membership, or personal merit. Communion is a gift of grace whereby through symbolic elements of bread and fruit of the vine, we are mystically united with the presence of Christ. Jesus invites all who desire a living relationship with Him to dine at his table. All of our bread is gluten-free.

Prayer of ThanksgivingWords of Institution Serving of the Bread and Cup

Closing Prayer and The Lord’s Prayer Our Father, who art in heaven, Hallowed be Thy name. Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For Thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory forever. Amen.
