This weekend we celebrate Father’s Day. This annual commemoration gives us the opportunity to hon-or fatherhood and to demonstrate the love we have for our dads – both living and dead. In the United States and

in Latin American Father’s Day is observed on the 3rd Sunday of June. In other countries, Father’s Day is observed on March 19th which is the feast of St. Joseph.

In Saint Joseph we find the model of fatherhood. I admire Saint

Joseph for his silence. The bible tells us a great deal about St. Joseph in-cluding his faithfulness, humility, and desire to protect and provide for his family. However, the scriptures do not record one word that Joseph ever spoke. His silent faith is a great virtue.

Another virtue worthy of admiration is the courage of Saint Jo-

seph. He was faced with a very confusing mystery concerning the concep-tion and birth of Jesus. He navigated his doubts and never gave in to frus-tration or despair. His courage in the face of mystery and doubt is admira-ble.

One final admirable quality we find in Saint Joseph is his justice. The bible tells us that he didn’t expose Mary’s pregnancy outside marriage which would have led to her being stoned. He was a “just” man. “Just” fa-thers do not expose the problems and bad behaviors of their children or their wives but help them to follow God’s will through their example.

I want to take this opportunity to thank God “our Father” for my

own dad. I am grateful for his guidance and care. I also want to thank all of you who have been blessed with fatherhood. Thank you for your guidance, protection, and love. Happy Father’s Day!

Este fin de semana celebramos el dí a del padre. Esta conmemoracio n anual nos da la oportunidad de honrar la paternidad y demostrar el amor que tenemos por nuestros

papa s, tanto vivos como difuntos. En Estados Unidos y en Ame rica Latina se celebra el Dí a del Padre el tercer domingo de junio. En otros paí ses, el dí a de los padres se celebra el 19 de marzo, que es la fiesta de San Jose .

En san Jose encontramos el modelo de la paternidad. Admiro a san

Jose por su silencio. La Biblia nos dice mucho acerca de San Jose , incluyendo su fidelidad, humildad y el deseo de proteger y proveer para su familia. Sin embargo, las escrituras no registran una sola palabra que Jose haya expre-sado. Su fe silenciosa es una gran virtud.

Otra virtud digna de admiracio n de San Jose es el valor. Se enfrento

a un misterio muy confuso sobre la concepcio n y el nacimiento de Jesu s. Navego sus dudas y nunca se rindio ante la frustracio n o la desesperacio n. Su valor ante el misterio y la duda es admirable.

Otra cualidad que encontramos en San Jose es su justicia. La Biblia

nos dice que no expuso el embarazo de Marí a fuera del matrimonio, lo que la habrí a llevado a ser apedreada. Era un hombre "justo". Los padres "justos" no exponen los problemas y las malas conductas de sus hijos o sus esposas, sino que les ayudan a seguir la voluntad de Dios a trave s de su ejemplo.

Quiero aprovechar esta oportunidad para agradecer a Dios

"nuestro Padre" por mi propio papa . Estoy agradecido por su orientacio n y cuidado. Tambie n quiero agradecerles a to-dos los que han sido bendecidos con la pater-nidad. Gracias por su guí a, proteccio n y amor. ¡Feliz Dí a del Padre!
