Rule Of Thirds
By Holly and Ruby
The Rule of Thirds is....
Used by photographers and film makers to help the viewer focus on the
main attraction.
The intersections when using the Rule of Thirds are generally where the eye is
drawn to.
In this photo your eye is drawn to splash and feet in the puddle. The drops of water surrounding it help give the effect of 3D.
In this photo, your eye is drawn to the big, pink hibiscus flower. Due to the way the camera has captured the angle and light.
In this shot you see the imprint of a shoe in mud and the shoe itself as the shoe is black you eye is drawn to it, it is darker compared to the mud, and it is on the intersections of the Thirds. While second it is drawn to the foot print as the water and light cause it to shine.
The flower in this shot is a lighter colour compared to the back ground which draws the eye to it also it is centred between to intersections on the Thirds. It is also a close up shot letting the eye also focus on the drops of water on its petals.
This shot is from Transformers 3: Dark of the Moon shows the rule of thirds. The astronaut is crossing two of the intersections on the left side. This draws our eye to him and the reflection in his helmet, showing what he is looking at, and then his surroundings.
Another shot from Transformers 3: Dark of the Moon. Optimus Prime is crossing to of the intersections on the left side of the screen. Your eye is first drawn to him, then what he is looking at. In this case it’s Bumblebee.
