THE CAUSEHannah wanted to be part of a sport team. She was active and enjoyed the outdoors, did well in school, and volunteered in her community. But by the time she decided to make sport a priority, she felt that she was too late to join most common sport teams, already filled with players who had been involved for many years.

One day at school she attended a presentation about rowing, where she learned that participants typically start in their early teens. Hannah was thrilled - she was right on time to join this team! She started rowing at her local club. Through hard work, dedication, and supportive coaches, she has grown into one of the top rowers in her age class, vying for the opportunity to be part of Team Nova Scotia at the 2017 Canada Games.

For Hannah, rowing is about more than competition. It’s about building inner resilience, physical strength, self-confidence; friendships, opportunities to travel, and to be part of the team.

National SuccessRow NS sent its largest ever contingent to the National Rowing Championships, meaning more athletes than ever are meeting the standards to be competitive at this level. Row NS earned a bronze medal in the Junior Men’s Pair at this event, and saw many other athletes achieve personal best results.

International SuccessThree Row NS athletes were selected to represent their country in rowing competition:

Local SuccessMembers of the Row NS Provincial team are all also members of local rowing clubs. These young leaders serve as role models for up-and-coming athletes by volunteering and coaching, and by demonstrating that athletes from a small province can fulfill the same dreams as athletes from a larger province.
